Enjoy modern Australian cuisine in a setting reminiscent of a Sydney beach house. Words: Netnapha Pawakhung Photo: Shelly House
Nestled among the skyscrapers of bustling Sathorn is a place designed to evoke the beachside atmosphere of Sydney. Located in Soi Sathorn 2, Shelly House is the brainchild of the same team that brought us Toby’s BKK, and their goal this time around is to bring the relaxed vibe of Sydney’s famed Shelly Beach to central Bangkok. The moment you step inside the restaurant, the warm, beach house-style décor will put you in the right mood for the gastronomic delights to come.
Shelly House serves modern Australian brunch with a healthy dose of Mediterranean influence, with 85% of menu items specially created for this location. If you feel like starting your day with a luxury treat, try Crab and Caviar Scrambled Eggs,” fluffy, velvety eggs topped with crabmeat and luscious roe. Another egg dish worth trying is Egg Mikado, poached eggs on sourdough with smoked salmon and Hollandaise sauce on the side and a sprinkle of Furikake on top. Fans of avocado on toast will love Shelly House’s version, the sourdough toast crispy on the outside but tender on the inside, the avocado available plain or as avocado salsa enhanced with lemon, ground chili and cilantro.
Mediterranean lovers shouldn’t miss The Mezze platter with hummus, labneh, a tomato-cucumber salsa and honey-glazed halloumi cheese alongside a serving of flatbread. Crispy Turkish Eggs, a traditional breakfast dish of Turkiye, also comes highly recommended, the eggs served atop a bed of labneh and ground beef and sprinkled with chili oil, herbs and nuts.
The restaurant sources ingredients – from the burrata served with an assortment of seasonal fruits, to the smoked salmon featured in several dishes, to the fresh produce – from quality sources. Because of this, even vegan options will please almost anyone, not just those with dietary restrictions. Two dishes that are equal parts virtuous and delicious are the Summer Bowl, brown rice with lentil, squash, cucumber and honey-glazed halloumi, and Green and Gold, poached eggs, pumpkin-and-carrot puree, cauliflower, broccolini, avocado and pomegranate.
In addition to breakfast and brunch, Shelly House serves impressive mains – Hanger Steak with broccolini and black garlic sauce, Spaghetti Black Truffle, Linguine with Clams, and Grilled Fish Fillet with Tomato Dashi, to name a few.
The drink menu is equally impressive. Coffee lovers will be pleased with the two specialty roasts, Byron Blend, whose flavor profile includes notes of caramel and jasmine, and Bronte Blend, which contains chocolate and walnut notes. Other choices include Coconut Water Espresso, Citrus Cold Foam coffee, Go Getter Power Breakfast smoothie with espresso, banana and cocoa powder, and quality teas from the popular Australian brand T2.
Shelly House is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. The easily accessible location, warm and friendly vibe, and well-crafted menu make it an ideal hangout for family and friends as well as a restaurant to go to when hunger hits. Parking is available on the premises and at The Cotton Saladaeng hotel right across the street (be sure to bring the parking ticket to the restaurant to be validated). For more information and reservations, contact Shelly House on 02-028-8837 or any of their online contact channels.
The new iteration combines an octagonal case middle in black ceramic with an extra-thin bezel, stylised lugs and push-pieces in 18-carat white gold for a sober and harmonious two-toned design.
The Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection’s unconventional and intricate design offers more details than meets the eye. Unveiled in 2019, it reflects the brand’s commitment to pushing the limits of craftsmanship, while remaining faithful to its legacy.
Six watch models were initially presented including a Chronograph and a Flying Tourbillon reference. One year later, these two complications were brought together in the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph, featuring an openworked design. A variation followed in 2022, showcasing the contrast between 18-carat pink gold and black ceramic. Building on this chromatic interplay, the latest model offers a striking new aesthetic with its two-tone case in shades of black and grey.
The complex case architecture of the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Flying Tourbillon Chronograph has been highlighted by both precious and contemporary materials. On the 2022 and 2024 models, the extra-thin bezel, stylised lugs and round caseback are made of 18-carat pink or white gold, while the octagonal case middle is crafted in ceramic for a strong chromatic contrast. All the case components have been hand-finished with the Manufacture’s signature alternation of satin brushing and polished chamfers. These high-end finishes offer a captivating play of light that watch lovers have come to love.
The art of openworking is a specialty mastered by few watchmakers. It consists of removing as much material as possible from movement parts to let the light through and reveal the beauty of the mechanism without compromising the calibre’s integrity or performance. The complexity increases, as watchmakers also adorn these delicate parts with refined Haute Horlogerie decorations. Audemars Piguet has been specialised in this ancestral art since the 1930s.
Calibre 2952, the movement powering the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph, features no fewer than 111 meticulously handcrafted inner angles on the bridges and decorative elements. It combines 479 parts dedicated to the time indication, flyback chronograph and flying tourbillon. The sapphire caseback further reveals the movement’s refined decorations, along with the 22-carat rhodium-toned pink gold oscillating weight.
Two years after its predecessor, Audemars Piguet unveils a new version of the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph. This novelty presents a black ceramic octagonal case middle combined with other exterior elements in 18-carat white gold for a contrasted, yet sober aesthetic.
On the movement, the blackened mainplate and barrel bridge are contrasted by rhodium-toned bridges that create a visual symmetry on the left and right of the dial, revealing layered shades of grey. The slate grey semi-matt inner bezel frames this complicated movement, while pink gold hands are used to ensure optimal legibility of both the time and the chronograph function. While mechanical watchmaking itself is a work of engineering, openworking endows this timepiece with an endless sense of awe.
