ประกาศผลรางวัล GPHG 2019 ที่เป็นดั่งรางวัลออสการ์ของวงการนาฬิกา

รางวัล Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève หรือ GPHG นั้นอธิบายให้ง่ายและกระชับที่สุดได้ว่าเป็นรางวัลออสการ์ของวงการนาฬิกา โดยแบรนด์และผู้ผลิตนาฬิกาต่างๆ นั้นสามารถส่งนาฬิกาเข้าประกวดได้ อย่างในรอบปีนี้ก็จะต้องเป็นนาฬิกาที่เปิดตัวและวางขายมาตั้งแต่ช่วงเดือนมีนาคม ค.ศ. 2018 จนถึงตุลาคม ค.ศ. 2019 รายการแข่งขันนี้แบ่งนาฬิกาออกเป็น 14 ประเภท แต่จำนวนรางวัลจริงๆ นั้นมี 19 รางวัล โดยเป็นรางวัลให้กับนาฬิกา 18 รางวัลและมีรางวัลหนึ่งมอบให้กับบุคคลหรือสถาบันที่ทำคุณประโยชน์ให้กับวงการนาฬิกา (แต่ไม่อาจมอบให้กับแบรนด์นาฬิกาแบรนด์ใดได้)
คณะกรรมการของ GPHG นั้นประกอบด้วยผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิอิสระจากทั่วโลกซึ่งจะต้องเริ่มงานด้วยการคัดนาฬิกาที่ส่งเข้าประกวดทั้งหมดให้เหลือเข้ารอบเพียงประเภทละ 6 รุ่น นาฬิกาที่เข้ารอบทั้งหมด 84 เรือนนี้ถูกนำไปจัดแสดงในสี่เมืองทั่วโลกซึ่งในปีนี้มีการมาเยือนกรุงเทพมหานครด้วยโดยจัดแสดงอยู่ที่ PMT The Hour Glass ก่อนที่จะนำกลับไปยังเจนีวาเพื่อให้พร้อมสำหรับพิธีมอบรางวัลเมื่อคืนนี้ (พฤหัสบดีที่ 7 พฤศจิกายน)
Audemars Piguet คว้ารางวัลใหญ่ Aiguille d’Or ไปด้วย Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin นาฬิกาตัวเรือนแพลทตินัมผสมไทเทเนียมรุ่นนี้เป็นตัวแทนแห่งความสมดุลระหว่างเทคนิคดั้งเดิมและกระบวนการสมัยใหม่ซึ่งนำไปสู่สถานะแห่งการเป็นนาฬิกาข้อมือที่มีกลไกเพอร์เพทชวลคาเลนดาร์และระบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติรุ่นที่บางที่สุดในโลก
รางวัล Chronograph Watch Prize นั้นตกเป็นของ Bulgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic ซึ่งทางเราก็แอบชอบอยู่ในใจ … ที่จริงก็ไม่แอบหรอกเพราะว่าเอาลง World of Watches Thailand ทั้งในฉบับเดือนมิถุนายนและกันยายนที่ผ่านมา … ก็จะไม่ให้ชอบได้อย่างไรในเมื่อเป็นโครโนกราฟที่บอกเวลาในประเทศที่สองได้ และเมื่อใส่เดินทางไปที่ใดก็ยังปรับตั้งเข็มชั่วโมงตามเวลาท้องถิ่นได้โดยง่ายเช่นนี้
นาฬิการุ่นอื่นที่มีความโดดเด่น เช่น Genus GNS1.2 ซึ่งได้รับรางวัล Mechanical Exception Watch Prize และมีหน้าตาซับซ้อนแบบที่ชวนให้ทุกคนต้องคิดว่าทำงานอย่างไร หรืออาจจะคิดว่าดูเวลาอย่างไรด้วยซ้ำ ในทางศิลปะนั้นก็มี Artistic Crafts Watch Prize ซึ่งนาฬิกาที่คณะกรรมการเห็นว่าเหมาะสมก็คือ Voutilainen Starry Night Vine
ถ้าเราว่างเมื่อใดก็จะเขียนถึงนาฬิกา Kudoke 2 จากแบรนด์ Kudoke ซึ่งได้รับรางวัล Petite Aiguille Prize สำหรับนาฬิกาในช่วงราคา 4,000 – 10,000 ฟรังก์สวิส แต่เวลานี้ใครอยากรู้ว่าแบรนด์ใดได้รางวัลอะไรอีกก็เข้าไปดูได้เลยที่ https://www.gphg.org/horlogerie/en/prize-list-19
สมาชิกกองบรรณาธิการของเราซึ่งอยู่ในพิธีมอบรางวัลเมื่อคืนนี้รายงานว่ามีผู้ให้ความสนใจเข้าร่วมเต็มพื้นที่ Théâtre du Léman ของโรงแรม Grand Kempinski ที่เจนีวา (ประมาณ 1,200 คน) บรรยากาศเต็มไปด้วยความเป็นกันเองเพราะคนของแต่ละแบรนด์ก็ให้เกียรติคู่แข่งซึ่งกันและกันตามประสาสุภาพชนของคนในวงการนี้
หากคุณผ่านไปเจนีวาช่วงวันนี้ถึงวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 14 พฤศจิกายนก็สามารถไปชมนาฬิกาที่เข้ารอบและนาฬิกาที่ได้รับรางวัลได้ที่ Museum of Art and History หรือ MAH (Musée d’Art et d’Histoire) แล้วก็อย่าลืมเผื่อเวลาเดินเที่ยวเจนีวาด้วยเพราะเมืองนี้มีอะไรน่าชมมากกว่าที่หลายคนคิดจริงๆ
World of Watches Thailand reports from GPHG 2019 prize-giving ceremony in Geneva.

In another industry, the recognition would have been known as the Academy Awards and the location for prize presentation would have been Los Angeles. But, here, in Geneva, it is Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève or GPHG. Brands and makers are welcome to submit their entries which must be watches commercialised between March 2018 and October 2019. There are 14 competition categories altogether, with 18 prizes for watches and one more for a personality or an institution but not a brand.
An international panel of independent jury first pre-select six watches per category from all entries. These 84 watches were then shown in the form of exhibition in four cities around the world including Bangkok at PMT The Hour Glass in October, before returning to Geneva for the grand prize-giving ceremony last night (Thursday 7 November).
Audemars Piguet snatched the grand prize of Aiguille d’Or with their Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin. The platinum and titanium watch represents a balance between traditional techniques and advanced technology to achieve the status of the world’s thinnest self-winding perpetual calendar wristwatch.
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic, featured in the June and September issues of World of Watches Thailand, was secretly our pick for the Chronograph Watch Prize and it turned out to be a winner. What’s not to like about a sleek chronograph with clear indication of a second time zone and a conveniently adjustable hour hand?
Other prize winners that provoke a sense of curiosity about watchmaking include the Genus GNS1.2 watch (Mechanical Exception Watch Prize)andVoutilainen Starry Night Vine (Artistic Crafts Watch Prize).When we have the time, we should also write separately about the Kudoke 2 watch from Kudoke which won the Petite Aiguille Prize for watches between CHF 4,000 and 10,000. According to our in-house reporter who was at the prize-giving ceremony last night, Théâtre du Léman of Grand Kempinski Hotel in Geneva was filled to capacity (approximately 1,200 people). The ambiance was one of camaraderie. It was a competition all right, but it is one where the competitors are respectful of one another and that is what makes watchmaking such a civilised industry.
If you are visiting Geneva any time between today and Thursday 14 November, you can see the prize-winning watches, as well as the pre-selected ones at the Museum of Art and History or MAH (Musée d’Art et d’Histoire). And do find time to enjoy the fine city itself!
