นาฬิกาที่บอกเวลาด้วยระบบจั๊มปิ้งอาวในตลาดนั้นมีอยู่เพียงไม่กี่รุ่น แต่ Franck Muller ก็ยังก้าวไปอีกขั้นด้วยการนำเสนอนาฬิกาที่มีจั๊มปิ้งมินิทและจั๊มปิ้งเดทร่วมด้วยรวมเป็นทั้งหมด 3 หน้าต่างตรงกลางหน้าปัดไล่ตั้งแต่ตำแหน่ง 12 นาฬิกาลงมาจนถึงตำแหน่ง 6 นาฬิกา เราได้เห็นกลไกชุดนี้ของ Franck Muller เป็นครั้งแรกเมื่อเดือนกรกฎาคมปีที่แล้ว โดยในครั้งนั้นกลไกดังกล่าวถูกบรรจุอยู่ในตัวเรือนทรง Curvex CX สไตล์คลาสสิก ภายใต้หน้าปัดแบบเต็มแผ่นที่มีการแกะสลักด้วยลวดลายกิโยเช่ แต่ในปี 2024 นี้ Franck Muller เลือกที่จะนำเสนอกลไกทริปเปิ้ลจั๊มปิ้งที่ว่าในตัวเรือน Long Island Evolution ใหม่ที่ดูล้ำสมัยอย่างเป็นที่สุด และยังมีแผ่นหน้าปัดแบบแซฟไฟร์คริสตอลเพื่อแสดงการทำงานของชิ้นส่วนจักรกลต่างๆ ให้เห็นจากทางด้านหน้าอีกด้วย
Long Island Evolution เป็นการนำเอาดีไซน์ตัวเรือนสี่เหลี่ยมแบบ Long Island ที่เราคุ้นเคยกันอยู่แต่เดิมไปตีความใหม่ให้มีความโฉบเฉี่ยวมากขึ้น วัสดุตัวเรือนเป็นไทเทเนียมเคลือบดำด้วยกระบวนการพีวีดี ตัดด้วยสีเขียวของตัวเรือนชั้นในที่ผลิตจากอลูมิเนียมและมีส่วนในการช่วยเพิ่มความทนทานต่อแรงสั่นสะเทือนจากภายนอก Franck Muller เปิดตัวนาฬิกา Long Island Evolution ชุดแรกทั้งหมด 3 รุ่นด้วยกัน ได้แก่ Long Island Evolution 7 Days Power Reserve (300 เรือน) Long Island Evolution Master Jumper ซึ่งเป็นรุ่นที่เรานำเสนอในบทความนี้ (100 เรือน) และ Long Island Evolution Giga Tourbillon (8 เรือน) โดยทุกรุ่นจะมีวางจำหน่ายเฉพาะในตลาดเอเชียแปซิฟิกเท่านั้น

The Long Island Evolution Master Jumper features numerical displays of the hour, the minute and the date for the first time in mechanical watches.

Jumping hour watches are few and far between, but Franck Muller exceeded all expectations by offering a jumping minute and a jumping date as well, all along the central axis from the 12 to 6 o’clock positions. The first time we saw this triple jumping complication from Franck Muller was July last year when they released the Master Jumper Dubail Limited Edition watch. At that time, it was nestled in the classical Curvex CX case with a full guilloche dial. For 2024, the manufacture is inclined to present this invention in the more avant-garde form of the brand-new Long Island Evolution case, complete with a sapphire crystal dial to expose the inner workings of the mechanical movement behind the digital displays.
Long Island Evolution is a bold reinterpretation of the well-loved rectangular Long Island watch. Maintaining the silhouette of the original, the new line is decidedly more dynamic with the use of a black PVD treated titanium case, together with a pine green anodized aluminium inner case that also serves to enhance shock resistance. Three watch models are introduced at the premiere of the series: the Long Island Evolution 7 Days Power Reserve (300 pieces), the Long Island Evolution Master Jumper that is the subject of this article (100 pieces), and, the Long Island Evolution Giga Tourbillon (8 pieces). All watches are exclusive to the Asia Pacific region.
These creations are possible because Franck Muller is a vertically integrated manufacture with the ability to produce cases, dials and movements on their own, without having to depend on third parties or suppliers. In the case of the Master Jumper, Franck Muller managed to develop Caliber FM 3100-L to fit the exacting form and inner dimension of the 35.3 x 48.1 mm case. A single disc carries the hour numerals from 1 to 12, while two discs each combine to spell out the two digits of the minute and the date. Look closely and you will see that the tens disc of the minute and the ones disc of the date have straight sides to ensure a sharp and clean cut in the middle of their respective windows.
Franck Muller chose to equip this caliber with two barrels to ensure sufficient delivery of energy and torque when multiple discs jump at once. This is particularly significant at midnight when the date is advanced as well. In this arrangement, the barrel near 12 o’clock powers the three discs for the hour and the minute while the one near 6 o’clock powers the two discs of the date and the overall functioning of the movement. This hand-winding movement comprises 371 parts in total.
White and green printing on the sapphire crystal dial complete the technical look of this striking timepiece. Worn on a matte black alligator leather strap with pine green stitching and edges to match the case design, the new Long Island Evolution Master Jumper is a testament to how this haute horlogerie company can always reinvent and reach towards greater heights. The watch is already nominated for the GPHG 2024 in the Men’s Complication category – the winners will be announced in mid-November.
