In his series ‘Outbreak’, artist Roger Brown explores and re-presents “natural organic forms”. Combining art and biology, Roger painstakingly re-creates the smallest biological structures such as microbes, neurons and pathogens. He explains:
“I want to communicate my fascination with the immense complexity and intricacy of natural forms and this is why the process behind my work is so important. Each sculpture is hugely time consuming and labour-intensive and this work is an essential element not only in the construction but also in the meaning of each piece.” (via RogerBrown)
He uses paper as a medium, for it “captures perfectly that mixture of delicacy and durability”, which for him, “characterizes the natural world”. Roger shows extraordinary skill and artistry as he transforms these scientific structures into works of art.
