Bavaria Files for Administration

0

Bavaria goes underwater

German boatbuilder, Bavaria has filed to go into administration before the District Court Würzburg last week, after facing payment difficulties, according to a German Press Agency. Also, two of its major investors: Oaktree Capital Management and Anchorage Capital Partners have denied additional funding to the company. Although Bavaria yacht is currently in operation, it has not filed for bankruptcy. Customers who have recently signed purchase agreements with the company are going to face big headaches.

According to the new marine industry intelligence service, IBI Plus, it will report as soon as more details are released by Bavaria.

According to Sail-world in a conversation with Bavaria’s Australian Agent, Tony Ross of Ensign Ship Brokers, “It seems they have taken this move into Administration to take stock and work out how to move forward.”

Currently, the boating company have nine boats in the pipeline such as C65, which is “now only available for April 2019 build slots and the new R55 is also sharing a fill 12-month wait… We have a C57 due to be finished in late September, and its queue now goes into the new year.”

Ross added that “this is not the first time something like this has happened in the boatbuilding industry, where cash is king, and timelines can be quite long.” A break in momentum can be quite disheartening for those who are affected.

Founded 40 years ago by entrepreneur Winfried Herrmann, Bavaria started building boats in the Franconian town of Giebelstadt in southern Germany. He was the first in Germany to introduce a modern assembly line production to boatbuilding. Over the years, Bavaria’s yachting business grew from strength-to-strength and produced about 3,500 sailing and motor yachts. Today, the company employs about 600 staff.

In addition, Bavaria Yacht was named one of the top three global market leaders for yachts ranging from 30 to 56 feet. Since its establishment 40 years ago, over 1,000 sailing yachts and motorboats have been built on the shipyard of Bavaria Yachts in Giebelstadt.

Modern Rugs for Your Living Room

Florida-based The Picturalist, an online luxury artwork company has added the refined and celebrated Caumont Interiors Rug Collection to its growing bank of treasures.

Created by award-winning French designer Bruno de Caumont, the 25-piece rug collection features luxurious and strikingly original geometric designs in hand-tufted, hand-knotted silk and New Zealand wool.

“These rugs are part of the sophisticated world I like to design,” enthused Caumont. The rugs are inspired from his travels and cultural discoveries, paying tribute to the nobility of the silk and wool used in the meticulous, artisanal manufacture of these rugs.

My trips to India and Nepal have been particularly productive, enabling me to find rug production workshops that meet my quality standards and requirements.

“Indo-Nepalese know-how has produced beautifully hand-knotted and naturally-dyed rugs since the 17th century. The modernity of my rug designs combines perfectly with the traditional craftsmanship found in these countries. Using this 300-year-old expertise, I want to create the classics of tomorrow.”

A recent article in The New York Times praised Bruno de Caumont’s work and called it “one of the highlights” of the International Maison et Objet furniture fair. Caumont’s design prowess is in his DNA. He is a descendant of the French architect who designed the Place de la Concorde in Paris, and the Petit Trianon in Versailles, made famous by Marie Antoinette.

“Interior designers and retailers have raved about Caumont’s on-trend, colourful designer rugs for some time,” says Roy Caro Cohen, Design Curator at the Picturalist. “Making them easily available on our website meets a demand for floor covering quality and convenience in the digital marketplace.

“We warmly welcome Bruno de Caumont to our design family. He is a rising star. We anticipate ever-greater enthusiasm for his brilliant rug creations within the interior design and retail community.”

Harry Winston’s Stunning Timepiece for Emerald Collection

0

Launched two years ago, the Harry Winston Emerald collection, welcomes a feminine addition to the family. The new Harry Winston Emerald timepiece, inspired by spring, encased in delicate white-gold with double-tour pink satin straps.

American luxury jewellery and watch brand Harry Winston has unveiled its latest timepiece, part of its Emerald Collection. Gemmed with more diamonds than any of its counterparts, this bejeweled beauty celebrates and channels the light of spring.

This graceful timepiece is features 4 pink sapphires and 180 brilliant-cut diamonds set against mother-of-pearl. With intricate jewel details in the dial, case and lugs, even the ardillon buckle binding the satin straps is adorned with 11 brilliant-cut diamonds.

The dial is accented by an exceptional, single emerald-cut pink sapphire on the 12 o’clock besides the three embellished on the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. This jewel crown is unique to this timepiece, alluding to the name of the emerald collection.

Harry Winston was known for his liking of emerald-cuts for diamonds, a personal preference that certainly shines in this timepiece. The hexagonal shape of the white gold case and sapphire are also subtly tied to the brand’s logo that encircles the initials, HW.

Despite its delicate femininity, this exquisite timepiece remains absolutely practical. Equipped with a Swiss quartz movement, this emerald timepiece is waterproof and retains a dainty size of only 9 by 15.55 millimetres.

Benetti Launched Two More Fast 125’ Units

Italian builder of motor yacht, Benetti Group has successfully launched two more Fast 125’ units in Viareggio: BF105 and BF106 in the Fast category. The two newly launched units are built in composite materials and carbon fiber. Prior to BF105 and BF106, “Ironman”, “Constance Joy”, “Skyler” and “Lejos3” were the four Fast 125’ units delivered on the market.

M/Y Charade

Both yachts, M/Y “My Way” and M/Y “Charade”, are fitted with the Azipull Carbon 65 (AZP C65) propulsion system developed through exclusive collaboration with Rolls Royce and will be delivered to their owners before summer.

The Azipull is a highly efficient propulsion system that exploits the extensive use of composite materials to reduce the weight of the yacht’s propulsion system. The new propulsion units are the main feature of Fast 125’ models, allowing for better distribution of the space on board, while maintaining high propulsion efficiency, excellent handling and ease of maintenance.

The two yachts share the same revolutionary D2P_Displacement to Planing® hull with wave piercer, combining the benefits of a displacement hull at low speeds with those of a high performance planing hull. Designed by Pierluigi Ausonio with the Azimut|Benetti Research & Development centre, this technology delivers reduced consumption at cruising speed and a top speed of over 20 knots.

With a length of 38.1 metres and a beam of 8.23 metres, the layout of these two yachts extends over four decks, which provide the space for four VIP cabins, the owner’s suite, a lounge with indoor dining area on the Main Deck and another small lounge on the Upper Deck, plus the Sun Deck, which is given over entirely to entertaining guests, who will be able to choose between two swimming pools, one on the Sun Deck and another larger, made-to-measure one in the bow on the Upper Deck.

BF105 and BF106 stand out for their sporty exteriors designed by Stefano Righini, while the interiors are by UK-based design studio RWD. The two yachts are fitted out with the Air configuration, the most contemporary of the three interior options (Air, Land, Sea) offered to Fast 125’ owners by Benetti.

Edition Hotels Ditch Plastic in Eco-conscious Movement

0

Ian Schrager’s luxury hotel chain EDITION Hotels, co-owned by Marriot, is cutting down on the most environmentally damaging resource: disposable plastic. In honor of Earth Day on April 22, they’ve pledged to be disposable plastic free — leading the hospitality industry in a plastic free movement.

No plastic in sight at bars.

“Stay Plastic Free” is an initiative launched by EDITION Hotels, aimed to make the luxury chain disposable plastic free by the end of 2019. Sparking a movement among hoteliers worldwide, this campaign is spearheaded by EDITION’s vice president of brand experiences, Ben Pundole.

“In the hospitably business, we don’t think about how many touch points there are, whether there’s a keycard, or a minibar, to-go food at the pool, or a toothbrush,” Pundole said, referring to places where the guest consumes something disposable. “And I realized I was in a position where I could effect some change.”

Pundole claims that EDITION’s four existing properties in London, New York, Miami, and Sanya, China have already seen radical reductions in plastic use with swap outs at minibars, straws, food containers and lids. However, there are still some tricky hold-outs such as keycards and bathroom amenities that lack viable solutions.

All 7 of EDITION’s upcoming projects will be launched plastic-free. The unsustainable nature of disposable plastic has been a trending hot topic for years, but Pundole stands for his belief in the current momentum of the present anti-plastic movement.

Instead of being a mere frugal or inconvenient decision, Pundole states that phasing out disposable plastic is the new consumer definition of luxury. In other words, guests are expecting less Nalgene water bottles and camping sporks and more S’well water bottles and bamboo tableware.

“Until very recently, this kind of initiative didn’t happen in the luxury space and it’s only just beginning,” Pundole said. “I think it really helps that luxury brands like Gucci have committed to being a lot more sustainable. There’s been a kind of conscious approach to next steps from companies that you never thought you’d see doing this.”

Beyond plastic reductions throughout its properties, EDITION is looking to organise a committee to further the campaign. Hoping to involve influential hoteliers such as Design Hotels, Soho House, and Chiltern Firehouse, Pundole wants to to look at industry-wide solutions to the plastic problem.

Pundole claims that the hurdles are not guests, but making a business case to financiers that “it’s the right decision even though it’s not cost neutral.”

May the future of luxury hospitality be plastic free.
