The yearend season, and especially New Year’s Eve, is when Bangkok comes alive even more than usual. Locals and tourists gather to immerse themselves in special experiences that come just once a year – spectacular fireworks displays, lavish feasts, and of course, thrilling New Year’s countdown. We have compiled a list of five countdown destinations for your consideration, some located on the riverfront, others in the heart of the city, but all offering a luxurious atmosphere, impeccable service, and breathtaking views. Just perfect, we think, for making lasting memories.
1. InterContinental Bangkok
Located in Ratchaprasong, the heart of downtown, InterContinental Bangkok hosts impressive New Year’s Eve celebrations every year. The classic European restaurant Fireplace Grill and Bar offers a six-course dinner featuring such sumptuous treats as perfectly poached Ostra Regal Oysters, served topped with Ossetra caviar, and Caribbean Lobster Risotto. The contemporary Cantonese restaurant Summer Palace serves a fusion feast including Iberico Pork Char Siu and Stewed Bird’s Nest with Black Truffle and Pumpkin. And vegetarian diners need not feel left out, because meatless options are available as well. Fans of international cuisine should head to Espresso, where a buffet feast and music by resident jazz vocalist Coco Lashaun await. This year the Shangri-La’s New Year celebrations feature the theme “A Realm of Enchanted Wonders”. The poolside gala dinner promises to be a feast for the senses, with an international buffet, stage performances and music by a live band and professional DJs, plus exciting lucky draws. Celebrations in the Lobby Lounge will take on a “Moulin Rouge” theme, with a dinner buffet, live music, and sensational performances. But if a Thai-style celebration is more your cup of tea, your destination should be the teak pavilions of Salathip restaurant, where sumptuous Thai food is served, accompanied by beautiful Thai classical dancing. And if you’d rather cruise your way into the New Year, reserve your seat on the Shangri-La Horizon Cruise and start counting down to a fabulous dinner cruise with fireworks views.
3. The Okura Prestige Bangkok
Magnificent Japanese-style celebrations await you at the Okura Prestige Bangkok’s “Jingle and Mingle” New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day parties. Highlights include “mochi-pounding,” an iconic New Years’s tradition rarely seen in Thailand, and gastronomic pleasures at two inhouse restaurants. The Michelin-starred Ciel Bleu presents “New Year’s Eve Dinner Journey,” a French set menu with a Japanese twist featuring blue lobster, Japanese asari clams, sweet and tender Awaji Island onions, and langoustine tartare with bafun uni and salmon roe. Yamazato restaurant offers three traditional Japanese menus: “New Year Osechi Lunch Gozen”, “New Year Kaiseki Dinner Experience” and “New Year Teppanyaki Dinner Experience” to help guests get the New Year off to a good start.
4. Chatrium Riverside Bangkok
Bid farewell to 2024 and welcome the New Year in style at the 80s-themed “Rock the Clock into 2025!” party at Chatrium Riverside Bangkok. Enjoy music by Mikey’s Band and DJ BPLAA as you savor your New Year’s Eve dinner. And with Thai and international buffets, charcoal-grilled fresh seafood, and premium fresh seafood on ice, it’s going to be a fantastic feast. After dinner, watch fireworks over the Chao Phraya and then join in the countdown. When we think of popular countdown venues, Iconsiam immediately comes to mind. This year’s countdown event at River Park, the shopping destination’s community space, features exotic and eco-friendly “Celebrating the Everlasting Legacy of Siam” fireworks displays using fireworks made from Thai glutinous rice, plus live performances by more than 60 Thai and international artists, including Nont Tanont, Milli, Jeff Satur, Atlas, Chinese star Wei Zheming, and Thai-born global icon Lisa Lalisa Manoban. Want to enjoy the fireworks displays over dinner? A restaurant with views, such as Fallabella River Front or James Boulangerie, will be an excellent choice.
