นิทรรศการ “Expression of a Siamese Freedom” เพื่อรำลึกถึงชีวิตและมรดกผลงานศิลปะของ วาเลครี กูตาร์

โรงแรม The Siam ภูมิใจนำเสนอ “Expression of a Siamese Freedom” นิทรรศการที่รวมรวมโดย มาร์ติน เกอร์ลิเยร์ (Martin Gerlier) เพื่อรำลึกถึงชีวิตและมรดกผลงานศิลปะของ วาเลครี กูตาร์ (Valérie Goutard) หรือที่รู้จักในชื่อ วาล ซึ่งผลงานชิ้นเอกระดับมหากาพย์ที่โด่งดังระดับโลกของวาลมีชื่อว่า “Du Chaos à la Sagesse” เป็นประติมากรรมสำริดสูง 36 เมตรที่สร้างให้กับนักสะสมชาวไต้หวันและนำจัดแสดงอยู่ที่เมืองไถจง หรืออย่างในประเทศไทยเราที่เห็นเด่นชัดก็คือ Ville Fantastique II ที่สวนเบญจสิริ หรืออีกงานหนึ่งที่โด่งดังแต่ไม่ได้อยู่บนพื้นดินให้คนทั่วไปได้เห็น นั่นก็คือ Ocean Utopia ซึ่งนำไปติดตั้งอยู่บนพื้นทะเลใกล้กับเกาะเต่า จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี
นิทรรศการ “Expression of a Siamese Freedom” นี้ประกอบด้วยผลงานประติมากรรม 23 ชิ้นของวาลที่เผยให้เห็นถึงเส้นทางทางความคิดในการสรรค์สร้างผลงานอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ ซึ่งประเทศไทยเป็นที่ที่เธอเคยอยู่อาศัยและเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นที่ผลักดันให้เธอได้รับการยอมรับในระดับนานาชาติ เอกลักษณ์ของงานประติมากรรมของวาลที่โดดเด่นคือลูกเล่นระหว่างโครงสร้างและพื้นที่ว่างที่เชื้อเชิญให้ผู้ชมครุ่นคิดถึงความเชื่อมโยงระหว่างบุคคล สภาพแวดล้อม และมิติทางจิตวิญญาณที่มองไม่เห็น
วาลคือศิลปินหญิงที่เกิดในประเทศฝรั่งเศสที่เปี่ยมไปด้วยวัฒนธรรมระดับโลก แต่เส้นทางศิลปะที่แท้จริงของเธอเริ่มปรากฏชัดเจนหลังจากย้ายเข้ามาอาศัยในประเทศไทยปี ค.ศ. 2004 และได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากจิตวิญญาณของประเทศไทย ที่ประเทศไทย วาลไม่เพียงได้พัฒนาทักษะในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานเท่านั้น แต่ยังได้เรียนรู้ศิลปะเกี่ยวกับการหล่อบรอนซ์ที่ซับซ้อนจากช่างหล่อระดับปรมาจารย์ของไทย ทั้งยังสร้างทีมงานในท้องถิ่นที่ร่วมกันสรรค์สร้างผลงานประติมากรรมขนาดใหญ่ของเธออีกด้วย ดังนั้นอาจกล่าวได้ว่าประเทศไทยเป็นแหล่งบ่มเพาะวิสัยทัศน์ของวาลที่สะท้อนถึงความกลมกลืน การใคร่ครวญในตัวตน และอิสรภาพที่เธอค้นพบในดินแดนแห่งนี้
ประติมากรรมแต่ละชิ้นของวาลถูกจัดวางอย่างพิถีพิถันภายในบรรยากาศอันแสนงดงามของโรงแรม The Siam อันเป็นสถานที่พักผ่อนริมแม่น้ำที่มีการตกแต่งสะท้อนถึงวัฒนธรรมและความงดงามของไทยอย่างแท้จริง ทั้งยังสอดคล้องกับการเดินทางทางศิลปะของวาลอย่างลึกซึ้ง ชวนให้ผู้คนมาร่วมสำรวจแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับมนุษยธรรม ธรรมชาติ และการค้นหาตัวตน ท่ามกลางฉากหลังอันงดงามของแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาที่หลอมรวมผลงานของวาลเข้ากับสถาปัตยกรรมและภูมิทัศน์ของโรงแรมได้อย่างไร้รอยต่อและสมบูรณ์แบบเป็นที่สุด นิทรรศการ “Expression of a Siamese Freedom” เปิดให้บุคคลทั่วไปเข้าชมได้แล้วตั้งแต่วันนี้จนถึงสิ้นเดือนมกราคม ค.ศ. 2025

The Siam Hotel presents “Expression of a Siamese Freedom,” a collection of the late Valerie “Val” Goutard’s works curated by Martin Gerlier to honor her life and legacy. Goutard is internationally renowned for her epic, 36-meter-tall bronze sculpture “Du Chaos a la Sagesse,” created for a Taiwanese collector and put on display in Taichung, Taiwan. Her works in Thailand include “Ville Fantastique II” at Benchasiri Park and “Ocean Utopia,” installed on the seafloor near Koh Tao, Surat Thani.
“Expression of a Siamese Freedom” features 23 sculptures representing the artist’ creative journey. Val lived in Thailand for many years, and it was during her time here that she launched her artistic career and went on to gain international fame. Her sculptures are marked by an interplay between the works themselves and the spaces around them, inviting viewers to think about the connections between individuals, their physical environments, and spiritual dimensions invisible to the human eye.
Although she was born in a country widely regarded as a hub of international culture, Val’s path as an artist only took shape after she moved to Thailand in 2004. Inspired by the Siamese spirit, during the years she lived here Val not only grew her creative skills but also learned the art of bronze casting from a Thai master. She built a local team who collaborated with her on her large-scale sculptures. It can therefore be said that her harmonious and self-reflective vision grew out of the sense of freedom she discovered while residing in Thailand.
Val’s sculptures are shown against the picturesque backdrop that is The Siam hotel. This riverside retreat is a showcase of the culture and beauty of Thailand, and as such it is an ideal setting for an exhibition that reflects Val’s artistic journey in this country. Viewers are invited to explore ideas about humanity, nature, and self-discovery. With the majestic Chao Phraya in the background, Val’s works seamlessly form a part of The Siam’s architecture and landscape. “Expression of a Siamese Freedom” is open to the public free of charge until the end of January 2025.
