สานฝันงานบรอนซ์จากดีไซน์สู่ผลงานจริงที่ Figures & Sala

Figures & Sala คือชื่อของสตูดิโอผลิตผลงานบรอนซ์ที่ก่อตั้งเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2012 โดยศิลปินชาวฝรั่งเศสชื่อคุณวาเลรี กูตาด์ ซึ่งสร้างผลงานที่น่าจดจำไว้มากมาย อย่างในประเทศไทยเราที่เห็นเด่นชัดก็คือ Ville Fantastique II ที่สวนเบญจสิริ Attraction II ที่สมาคมฝรั่งเศส และ Inle Balance III at the Sofitel Sukhumvit Hotel นอกจากนี้ยังมีอีกงานหนึ่งที่โด่งดังแต่ไม่ได้อยู่บนพื้นดินให้คนทั่วไปได้เห็น นั่นก็คือ Ocean Utopia ซึ่งนำไปติดตั้งอยู่บนพื้นทะเลใกล้กับเกาะเต่า จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี เพื่อให้ปะการังได้ใช้เป็นที่เจริญเติบโตขึ้นใหม่
ผลงานของเธอล้วนสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความรู้สึกที่อยู่ภายในใจมนุษย์ สิ่งที่อยู่เบื้องหลังประติมากรรมบรอนซ์ของเธอก็คือพวกเราแต่ละคนในชั่วขณะหนึ่งที่มีความสุข ความเศร้า ความรักหรือความเสียใจอะไรก็ตาม โดยมีโครงสร้างรอบนอกล้อมรอบหรือเกี่ยวโยงอยู่กับรูปตัวคนเพื่อช่วยกำหนดฉากหรือเป็นตัวแทนของสังคมโลกนั่นเอง
อย่างไรก็ดี คุณวาเลรีได้จากทุกคนไปในปี ค.ศ. 2016 เพราะอุบัติเหตุทางถนน การดำเนินกิจการของ Figures & Sala จึงตกเป็นหน้าที่ของคุณเฟรเดอริค มอเรล ผู้เป็นสามีของเธอโดยสมบูรณ์ ซึ่งคุณเฟรเดอริคนั้นก็เป็นชาวฝรั่งเศสที่อาศัยอยู่ในประเทศไทยมานานถึง 35 ปีแล้ว โดยก่อนหน้านี้ก็ทำงานให้กับบริษัทต่างชาติขนาดใหญ่ แล้วในภายหลังจึงมาจับงานด้านศิลปะอย่างเต็มตัวเมื่อมีคุณวาเลรีเข้ามาในชีวิต
ต่อข้อคำถามว่า Figures & Sala จะเดินต่อไปในทิศทางใด คุณเฟรเดอริคตอบว่า “นี่คือที่ๆ วาเลรีสร้างผลงานของเธอเกือบทุกชิ้น มันคือสถานที่แห่งศิลปะ สถานที่แห่งความคิดสร้างสรรค์และสถานที่แห่งความรัก Figures & Sala จะยังคงผลิตงานของเธอจนครบชุด แต่ผมก็ต้องให้ที่นี่ ให้สตูดิโอแห่งนี้ เป็นสถานที่ผลิตผลงานต่อไป ผมจึงตัดสินใจเปิดประตูต้อนรับให้ศิลปินท่านอื่นๆ เข้ามาใช้ที่นี่ผลิตผลงานของตนได้”
ที่ผ่านมาก็มีศิลปินจากหลายประเทศเดินทางมาพำนักที่สตูดิโอบ้านทรงไทยเพดานสูง 10 เมตรในซอยโยธินพัฒนา 3 แห่งนี้เพื่อสร้างผลงานโดยใช้อุปกรณ์และสถานที่ของที่นี่โดยมีพนักงานประจำสตูดิโอเป็นผู้ช่วย และทำการหล่อบรอนซ์ที่โรงหล่อซึ่งเป็นพาร์ทเนอร์กับสตูดิโอโดยทางสตูดิโอเป็นผู้ประสานและจัดการในขั้นตอนที่จำเป็นให้ หรือในอีกรูปแบบหนึ่งก็จะมีศิลปินที่สร้างสรรค์ผลงานด้วยวัสดุอื่นอย่างเช่นเซรามิกหรือศิลปินภาพวาดส่งผลงานของตนมาให้ Figures & Sala ช่วยสร้างเป็นชิ้นงานด้วยวัสดุบรอนซ์ก็มี รายละเอียดเพิ่มเติมเกี่ยวกับสตูดิโอที่มีชีวิตแห่งนี้ที่ figuresandsala.com

The studio founded by late French artist Valérie Goutard finds a second life after her passing.

Figures & Sala is the name of a bronze sculpture studio founded in 2012 by French artist Valérie Goutard. Many of her memorable works are installed in Thailand, including “Ville Fantastique II” at Benjasiri Park, “Attraction II” at the Alliance Française Bangkok, and “Inle Balance III” at the Sofitel Sukhumvit Hotel in Thailand. Another notable work is not as readily visible – “Ocean Utopia” is installed near Koh Tao in Surat Thani province, serving as a home for the corals.
Valérie’s works consistently reflected the diverse range of human emotions and experiences, with each bronze sculpture telling a story. Behind the scenes of her bronze artistry lies the essence of our shared human moments, whether they are joy, sorrow, love or sadness. The external structures or connections surrounding her sculptures often serve as the environment in which we exist, symbolising our global society.
However, in 2016, Valérie passed away due to a road accident. As a result, the management of Figures & Sala became the full responsibility of her husband, Frédéric Morel, a French expatriate who has resided in Thailand for 35 years. Prior to this, he had worked for large international companies before fully embracing the world of art when Valérie entered his life.
Addressing the question of the studio’s future direction, Frédéric responds, “This is where she has created most of her sculptures. It’s a place of art. It’s a place of creations. It’s also a place of love. Figures & Sala keeps on producing and casting her work up to the limit of the editions. I wanted this place, this studio, to keep on being a place of creation so I have opened it to other sculptors.”
Over the years, a number of artists from various countries have come to take residency here. Figures & Sala is a Thai-style house with a 10-metre-high ceiling in Soi Yothin Pattana 3. Artists can use their equipment and generous space, as well as staff, to realise their imagination. The crucial process of bronze casting can be done at a partner foundry, with necessary arrangements made by the team at Figures & Sala.
On the other hand, some artists from other disciplines like ceramics and paintings have sent their works to Figures & Sala, for them to be transformed into bronze sculptures, which is another possibility. For more details about this enabling studio, please see figuresandsala.com.
