Patek Philippe products are among the most highly anticipated products at each year’s edition of Baselworld: one of the world’s most important exhibition of the wristwatch industry in Basel, Switzerland. The watchmaker delivers this year a range of exciting watches, among them the Alarm Travel Time Ref. 5520P which should resonate well with our jetsetting readers. Using the aesthetics and dual time zone display functionality of the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 5524 as the foundation, the new Ref. 5520P is equipped also with the alarm complication – a rarity in today’s offering in the watch market.
Upon arriving in another country, you can set the watch’s local time display very quickly with the two buttons on the left side of the 42.2 mm platinum case. The crown at 4 o’clock helps you define the time you require an alarm reminder (e.g. 09:30 or 11:45). Once the alarm time is set, press the button at 2 o’clock to engage the system. A small bell symbol just above the windows indicates the status of the alarm system: white for on and black for off.
What’s more? The alarm mechanism in this Patek Philippe is not of the conventional type. In fact, it is composed of a hammer and a gong in the same manner as the brand’s very own minute repeater system, and you can view this in action through the sapphire crystal caseback! Once the alarm is engaged, the hammer will strike for a total duration of 35 seconds. You can either wait for the action to finish or you can press the button at 2 o’clock to stop it on demand as you wish.
