Patek Philippe is as meticulous with ladies’ watches as it is with those for gentlemen. The Geneva-based firm also has a full understanding of what makes a timepiece so special and dear to the female clientele. This is most evident in such endearingly sweet products as the Nautilus Dames and Aquanaut Luce. Still, any discussion of Patek Philippe ladies’ watches cannot be complete without evoking the Twenty~4.
Originally introduced in 1999, the Twenty~4 is a ladies-only collection of contemporary and elegant watches for all occasions from daytime to the evening, hence the name. It proposed a rectangular case shape whereas the majority of watches were round, making it even more distinguished. Together with the availability of a metal bracelet, the Twenty~4 has been very well received by discerning buyers since.
Almost 20 years afterwards, Patek Philippe chose to reach out to an even wider audience with the 2018 launch of Twenty~4 Automatic in October. The round case shape corresponds with the preference of customers who were not inclined to wear a rectangular watch. More importantly, the movement used in the Twenty~4 Automatic is mechanical because women of today can be as appreciative as men when it comes to the technical aspect of wristwatches.
What remains the same is the notion of 24-hour companionship. The Twenty~4 Automatic is intended to grace the wrist of its owner as she attends to her daytime business then transits to the evening functions. Its design is reflective of confidence with an angular bezel, while at the same time gentle with details like the curvature of bracelet centre link and the two-tier architecture of the outside links. In addition to offering everyday practicality, this bracelet represents continuity from the original, rectangular Twenty~4.
Five iterations of the Twenty~4 Automatic are available currently with two in stainless steel and three in rose gold. The stainless steel Ref. 7300/1200A-001 and Ref. 7300/1200A-010 feature a blue or a grey sunburst dial, respectively, with Arabic hour markers in 18K gold, as are the baton hour and minute hands. A luminous coating is applied to ensure ease of time reading at night.
Moving up on the price scale, the three rose gold models propose even more variety, beginning with the Ref. 7300/1200R-001 with brown sunburst dial. Meanwhile, the Ref. 7300/1200R-010 with silver grey dial features the Shantung finish of vertical and horizontal lines like the eponymous silk. The Ref. 7300/1201R-001 sits at the top of the range with the same Shantung dial, the diamonds on the bezel, but with the addition of 248 diamonds on both sides of the bracelet links for extra oomph.
Mechanically, the Twenty~4 Automatic is accurate with the use of the self-winding Calibre 324 S C with 21K gold rotor and 45-hour power reserve for utmost convenience. The movement is painstakingly finished to the high standards of the Patek Philippe Seal and visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.
