0

StockX Market is a live, bid/ask marketplace (‘stock market’) for buying and selling limited edition goods. Everything from high demand sneakers to luxury watches. StockX ‘legit checks’ all products which gets listed on the StockX Market for authenticity to ensure that they are 100% legitimate. Touted to be the “Stock Market of Things”, StockX makes the buying of luxury timepieces like remarkably easy.

StockX operates like the namesake stock market. Users of StockX Market can track real-time data on a large variety of watches like an actual stock market, from historical pricing to real time prices as other users buy or sell luxury watches following free market principles and market dynamics. With the information handy, buyers on StockX can place matching bids with potential asking prices or offer a price while StockX Market handles the trade the way an online stock market would.

StockX Market: Buy Luxury watches like Stocks

Naturally, unlike stocks and shares of commercial enterprises and corporate entities, the buying of luxury watches sight unseen is fraught with fraudulent replicas and the dangers of trading hard earned money for a replica watch is a real concern. Thus each watch sent to StockX will undergo a thorough inspection by a team of master watchmakers to ensure its authenticity and condition:

  • Full internal movement condition inspection
  • External condition assessment including lugs, case, crystal, dial, and bracelet
  • A timing test, including adjustments as needed to meet manufacture standards and functionality
  • Water resistance testing
  • Amplitude testing
  • If necessary, new gaskets for the caseback, crystal, bezel, tube and crown are applied to your watch
  • The watch will be expertly cleaned and, if needed, lightly polished

A watch purchased from StockX Marketplace will be accompanied by a StockX certificate of authenticity highlighting the following details: Make, Model, Reference number, Serial number, Case metal and Band material. As further guarantee, a watch which fails authentication after a secondary check on receipt by the buyer will be returned to the seller, and refunded.

StockX will also penalise sellers who flake or peddle fake watches to a tune of 15% of the watch’s selling price, and have their accounts will be subject to suspension. StockX also offers sneaker, streetwear and handbag marketplace and ‘price guides based on real-time market data and rich market analysis.

Party at Jeff Bezos’ $23 Million DC Home

In 2016, the Amazon founder and Washington Post owner, Jeff Bezos, paid $23 million for the former Textile Museum in Kalorama, becoming neighbors with the Obamas and Kushner-Trumps. The 27,000 square feet mansion was already the biggest home in Washington before the $12 million renovation and expansion last year.

To restore the interiors to its glory in the early 20th-century, Bezos hired the architecture firm Barnes Vanze. The original blueprint of the mansion comprises of two homes, the Pope and the Wood, joined by a connecting walkway.

The floor plans for the Pope house show there will be a big whiskey cellar on the upper left and a walk-in wine room at the center. As well as 10 toilets.

The four-stories tall Pope will be the private living quarters. Amenities include a a large lounge complete with a bar, elevator, as well as a big whiskey cellar with plentiful drying racks and a walk-in wine room. One of the dressing rooms is large enough to have its own fireplace.

The 1,500-square-feet Wood house will be transformed into a majestic ballroom with a bar, a limestone fireplace and a balconied promenade with iron guardrails.

The larger of the two mansions, the Wood House, will be the glamorous party venue. An enormous marble staircase leads up to a two-storey ballroom spanning across 1,500 square feet. There will also be a 36-foot-long gallery, a solarium (“garden room”), two terraces, and a living room.

The upper floors of Wood’ house will have four guest bedrooms and bathrooms as well as offices and housing for staff.

The infrastructure is truly endless, offering a spacious area for grilling, furniture storage, staff rooms and offices, and a kitchen just for catering parties.

Behind the homes are extensive grounds, a sumptuous back garden that stretches toward Decatur Street, Northwest.

The sumptuous backyard will feature newly planted trees, stone paths, two fountains, a garden pavilion and a pergola.

This scale of renovation of the two houses will cover 191 doors in total, mostly custom mahogany or bronze, as well as 25 bathrooms, 11 bedrooms, five living rooms/lounges, five staircases, three kitchens, two libraries/studies, two workout rooms, two elevators, and a huge ballroom. Material used for construction are rather run off the mill, with familiar wood, limestone, glass, and wrought iron.

This colossal estate is just one of Jeff Bezos’ collection: two Beverly Hills, California, houses, whose total purchase value adds up to more than $37 million; hundreds of thousands of acres in West Texas, where Bezos’ space tourism company, Blue Origin, is based; four apartments in a building on Central Park West in New York; and several homes in the suburbs of Seattle, not far from Bill Gates.

Bezos’s architecture firm predicts the Kalorama estate will be finished by December. For more detailed blueprints of the renovations, view them here.

Exhibition: D Gallerie presents Naufal Abshar

Naufal Abshar, ‘The World of Entertainment’

Painted with bold colours and peculiar caricatures, Naufal Abshar‘s new exhibition, ‘The World of Entertainment’, is a tongue-in-cheek social commentary highlighting the absurdities of modern-day entertainment. Featuring his idiosyncratic satirical style, the exhibition invites audiences into a dystopian universe where the perils of mass media are displayed with touches of humour and wit. Running from 27 April to 27 May 2018 at D Gallerie, this is Naufal’s first solo exhibition in Indonesia.

Naufal Abshar, ‘I am the star’, acrylic and oil pastel, 203 x 140cm.

A deep sense of irony undercuts the various works displayed in the exhibition. At first glance, the paintings ostensibly feature fashionably dressed figures with smiles and laughter on their faces. Under the veneer of cheerfulness however, the wide grins of laughter reveal something more grotesque and sinister. The eyes of his painted personas are also empty, as if they are laughing unconsciously. These darker underpinnings spell out a strong criticism against the greed for and excesses of entertainment.

Naufal Abshar, ‘Dumb Deal’, mixed media, 183 x 100cm.

In an era where social media and rapid advances in technology allow most people to turn the spotlight on themselves, Naufal’s commentary is both astute and insightful. Each painting is accompanied by mischievous jokes that dress the characters up with humour, encouraging audiences to laugh at the nonsensical images. In an ironical twist, the laughter of the caricatures mirror the laughter of the audiences who are equally consumers and producers within the world of entertainment.

Naufal Abshar, ‘Buaya Darat’, acrylic and oil pastel, 200 x 120cm.

2006 Ferrari 575 Superamerica with HGTC Pack

Many Ferrari owners and car enthusiasts are fond of the revere supercar for the marque’s rich history, engine, car performance, body styling, the sophisticated details and technicalities that went into producing the car. When the marque releases a new production model for sale, it would normally capture the curiosity and attention of car aficionados.

Ferrari – as the word suggests – the exotic vehicle is still seen by many as the world’s fastest production car in the 21st century. Do expect a rare Ferrari to fetch a staggering price at auction as good examples and limited editions are hard to find. Though it might not be the cheapest to maintain, perhaps, spending between €550,000 and €650,000 on this featured Ferrari could be a wise move.

This rare and desirable 575 Superamerica coupe, equipped with a brand-new convertible-top system and Ferrari’s popular optional F1-style six-speed transmission as well as the desirable HGTC pack, will be auctioned off at the upcoming RM Sotheby’s exclusive Monaco sale. When this example was first introduced on the market in 1996, Ferrari’s clients insisted on an open-top variant of the new car. Later, the company devised a brand-new convertible-top system, constructed of carbon-fibre frame incorporated with electrochromic glass to be fitted to a production car, thus offering clients all the freedom of a convertible coupled with the security of a coupe.

The coupe was delivered new to its buyer in 2006 and being one of just 43 Superamericas fitted with the six-speed manual transmission and having travelled only less than 10,000 original kilometres in its lifetime, the car only had a single owner from new.

Sporty, classic and sophisticated looking from all angles, the 575 Superamerica coupe is thoroughly exciting to drive. The supercar represents the modern, open-top V12 Ferrari at its best. Of the 559 examples built, this 2006 Ferrari 575 Superamerica example was finished in Grigio Titanio over a Cuoio leather interior. The car featured a brand-new convertible-top system, and HGTC pack along with carbon-ceramic brakes, titanium exhaust and suspension, and steering upgrades.
