Boeing ส่งเครื่องบินขนส่งขนาดยักษ์ Dreamlifter ช่วยรัฐบาลสหรัฐขนอุปกรณ์ทางการแพทย์สู้ภัย Covid-19

บริษัทผู้ผลิตอากาศยานสัญชาติอเมริกันทวีตข้อความประกาศให้สาธารณชนได้ทราบว่า “เราจะใช้เครื่องบินขนส่ง Dreamlifter ของเราในการเคลื่อนย้ายอุปกรณ์ที่จำเป็นและเป็นที่ต้องการเร่งด่วน ทั้งนี้เพื่อเป็นการสนับสนุนการรับมือกับการแพร่ระบาดของ Covid-19 และเพื่อช่วยเหลือบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ผู้กล้าของเรา” และประธานาธิบดี โดนัลด์ ทรัมป์ ก็มีการกล่าวถึงเรื่องนี้ด้วยในการแถลงข่าวที่ทำเนียบขาวเมื่อเร็วๆ นี้
Dreamlifter คือเครื่องบินรุ่นที่ Boeing ผลิตมาใช้งานเองเท่านั้นโดยไม่ได้ขายให้กับใคร ถ้าดูเพียงส่วนหัวแล้วรู้สึกว่าคุ้นตา นั่นก็เป็นเพราะว่า Dreamlifter มีพื้นฐานเป็นเครื่อง 747 จัมโบ้เจ็ทที่ถูกนำมาดัดแปลงให้ลำตัวโป่งพองตลอดความยาวเพื่อการเคลื่อนย้ายของใหญ่โดยเฉพาะ อากาศยานรุ่นนี้ยังมีชื่อเรียกอีกชื่อหนึ่งด้วยว่า 747-400 LCF หรือ Large Cargo Freighter นั่นเอง และมีปริมาตรในการบรรทุกสินค้ามากเป็นสามเท่าของเครื่องบินขนส่ง 747-400 F ขนาดปกติ
โปรเจค Dreamlifter ริเริ่มขึ้นเพราะ Boeing ต้องการเคลื่อนย้ายชิ้นส่วนปีกและลำตัวของเครื่อง 787 Dreamliner จากแหล่งผลิตชิ้นส่วนต่างๆ ทั้งในและนอกประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาเพื่อมาประกอบที่เมืองเอเวอเรตต์ รัฐวอชิงตัน เพราะหากจะต้องขนมาทางเรือนั้นก็อาจต้องใช้เวลานานถึง 30 วัน เปรียบเทียบกับการบินมาเพียงแค่วันเดียว จุดเด่นอีกประการหนึ่งของ Dreamlifter คือการเปิดส่วนหางของเครื่องเหมือนบานประตูสวิงเพื่อให้นำของชิ้นโตหรือยาวเป็นพิเศษขึ้นเครื่องได้โดยสะดวก
ในโลกนี้มีเครื่อง Boeing Dreamlifter รวมทั้งหมดสี่ลำด้วยกัน และ Boeing จะให้รัฐบาลสหรัฐยืมใช้ขนส่งอุปกรณ์ทางการแพทย์มากถึงสามลำถ้าจำเป็น แต่ ณ ขณะนี้ยังไม่มีการระบุรายละเอียดว่าจะให้ยืมเป็นระยะเวลานานเท่าใด

“In support of Covid-19 relief efforts and heroic healthcare professionals, we are offering our Dreamlifter cargo plane to transport critical and urgently needed supplies,” tweeted the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing. The offer was noted by President Donald Trump during a recent press briefing at the White House.
Dreamlifter is the name given to a very special aircraft Boeing produces for its own use, not for commercial sales. If you feel that the cockpit and nose section looks somewhat familiar, it is because the Dreamlifter is an extensively modified version of the legendary 747 Jumbo Jet. Its less sexy name is in fact 747-400 LCF (Large Cargo Freighter). Its cargo volume is appropriately three times that of the regular 747-400 F freighter plane.
The Dreamlifter project was initiated mainly to transport wing and fuselage sections of 787 Dreamliner from locations within the US and from other countries to Everett, Washington, for the assembly. This greatly improved delivery time from as long as 30 days by ship to just one day by this ungainly aircraft. One other special feature to note is the swing tail which facilitates loading of very large and/or long items into its bulging fuselage.
There are four Boeing Dreamlifters in existence and up to three of them will be used for this mission of flying medical supplies to where they are needed. No further detail was provided as to the duration of the aircraft loan.
