365 Postcards For Ants

A painting a day keeps the mundanity away. From the first day to the last day of 2013, South African Artist Lorraine Loots painted one detailed tiny painting. Each painting is no bigger than the size of a dollar coin, however she creates each with impeccable intricacy and detail. To achieve this detail, she uses a small round stencil and then, with a very thin paintbrush, finely tipped pencil and a magnifying glass. Her designs include plants, animals, portraits of people and, most impressively, landscapes and sceneries. This series, titled 365 Postcards for Ants, was initially completed for the year 2013 and her new designs are actually part of her second phase of works. Her paintings, created for the projects 2014 continuation, are intended to celebrate Cape Town’s designation as World Design Capital 2014. Each new design will feature ideas and places inspired by the Artist’s own hometown.

Loots updates the postcards on her website daily with the painting of the day. Each painting is for sale. Learn more about Loots and her project here.
