British Artist Jane Perkin has re-created famous art pieces using found objects in a stunning mosaic series titled “Plastic Classics”. Using buttons, beads, sequins, shells and random objects found around the house (like spoons) and even miscellaneous knick-knacks, she replicates famous paintings and portraits. The self-proclaimed “re-maker” artist  features a myriad of iconic paintings; from the Girl with the pearl earring to  Andy Worhol’s portrait of Marilyn. Perkin assembles the objects so skillfully, matching the shapes and hues, that the works look strikingly similar to their originals. This work takes influence from the impressionistic tradition of art being appreciated up close as well as from a distance. Perkins brings to life these iconic artworks while giving meaning and function to these mundane, forgotten objects.
