Audi R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition: Laser Lights

0

For this year’s LA Auto Show, Audi is debuting the new Audi R8 V10 plus exclusive edition that features the newly-legalized laser beam headlamps.

The standard Audi R8 V10 is a 550hp, all-wheel-drive supercar. Now, the exclusive edition is equipped with every option and creature comfort the company currently offers. There are only 25 vehicles in this limited run, which makes this a toy many will want to get their hands on.

Each of the 25 creations will be finished with a special Quantum Grey paint with Solar Orange highlights. The car will sit on glossy black 20-inch alloys, and exposed carbon fiber front and rear spoilers, side air vents and mirror housings.

The cabin of the car is trimmed with leather, a touch that extends to the luggage, decked out as it is with Alcantara. Carbon shell sports seats are standard, as is an extra rear luggage shelf and a 12 o’clock marker on the sports steering wheel in Solar Orange.

For that extra dash of exclusivity, the door sills of this R8 will light up with the legend “one of 25”. The R8 logo can be projected on the ground, acting as a guide for you to find your car in the midst of other vehicles (as if you could lose this car in a crowd).

Despite all those showy moves, Audi wants the laser lights to be the star of the automobile. The laser headlamps sport a wider, more focused beam that is whiter and wider than LED or bi-xenon systems. The projection range is also considerably longer. Audi is a major advocate of the innovation, which people also start seeing as a status symbol. It was legalized recently in the US, where it was subject to government testing and approval, and this Audi R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition is a celebration of that fact.

The 2016 LA Auto Show opens its doors to the public on November 18.

Tate Modern Hosts Elton John Photo Collection

0

Sir Elton John’s fans will be soon able to discover one of the English singer and songwriter’s unheralded passions: Modernist photography. Only a few know he started a personal collection in 1991, focusing on artists and pieces disrupting the medium. Since then, he has gathered several thousand of photographs.

After having kept that collection private for years, Sir Elton John agreed to expose a part of it to the public at the Tate Modern, in London, during a special exhibition.

The Radical Eye: modernist photography from the Sir Elton John Collection” brings together selected pieces taken between 1920 and 1950 by some of the most-known avant-garde artists from the last century.

From documentary photography to portraits and abstract work, John’s collection will document the evolution of photography during the first half of the 20th century. The pieces selected for the exhibition will be flown in from the singer’s multiple properties around the world. In all, over 150 rare and iconic photographs by more than 60 artists will be on show.

Anticipated highlights from the exhibition include portraits of 20th-century icons Georgia O’Keeffe, Jean Cocteau, Igor Stravinski, André Breton, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, as well as groundbreaking modernist works by photographers André Kertész, Man Ray, Berenice Abbot, Alexandr Rodchenko, and Edward Steichen.

The Radical Eye collection will be displayed in the Tate Modern, barely six months after the London museum completed its major architectural renovation in June 2016. Those interested in the exhibition are invited to join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #RadicalEye.

Interview: Anthony Phuong, A2Z Art Gallery

0

We have a secret but it cannot be hidden any longer: we are a nosy (we prefer the term ‘curious’)  bunch and we love it when our interviewees spill secrets that we can churn into entertaining articles. Our friends at Art Republik are as curious as we are. As part of the art magazine’s quarterly edition of asking slightly awkward and invasive questions, we learn a little bit more about Anthony Phuang who is the co-founder of A2Z Art Gallery.

Who would you have at your ideal dinner party?

My wife, artists of every kind, curators and friends to share new experiences with.

Which is your favourite city to see art?

Paris. That said, we can travel all around the world to see art but there are always beautiful things to discover around us.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be?

Einstein – a genius but so crazy. It’s important to be serious and laugh at the same time.

Art fairs are not fair to art – true or false?

False. The art market is essentially a salon where trade of different skillsets is conducted, and it is to the onus of the public who have to make the effort and form their own opinions.

What three items would you take to a desert island other than food and water?

A Swiss knife, a book on how to survive on a desert island, and a helicopter to go back home if I don’t manage!

Co-founder of A2Z Art Gallery, Anthony Phuang

What is your guilty pleasure?

I like to see the smiles on people’s faces when they discover the artworks of artists I work with.

If you won $20 million in the lottery, what is the first thing you would do with the money?

I was born in Vietnam, and the first thing I would do is create a foundation for support and a school to teach children in a developing country what they need to survive in this world.

What do you love most about the art world?

It offers another point of view about life, it’s a universal language, and you don’t need to translate the emotion and the beauty.

What useless talent do you have?

My humour.

If you were Thomas Crown, what three art works in the world would you steal?

The first drawings made by human which are found in The Lascaux cave at Grotte de Lascaux; the self-portrait of Van Gogh that he offered his dream lover after he cut his ear; and any sculpture by Jeff Koons, just so I can destroy it!

Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?

100 duck-sized horses.

Which super power would you like to have?

A simple one: To bring out the humanity in people, so there would be more good in this world.

If you married 3 times, are you an optimist or an idiot?

It depends… why am I married 3 times?

Actress Jojo Goh debuts her first L’Officiel Malaysia cover

Ambassador of L’Officiel Malaysia for the second year in a row and a rising star in the world of entertainment, Jojo Goh has debuted her first ever cover for the reputed magazine’s November 2016 issue.

A bonafide, ultra-edgy, sophisticated beauty (and all dressed in Hermès for the cover, watch included) that many adore, Jojo makes the perfect choice for the magazine’s “#InstaEra” issue, which highlights the rise of social media influencers from various platforms.

Shot by Malaysian photographer Chintoo and styled by L’Officiel Malaysia’s managing editor Monica Mong, Jojo shows a different side of her that many have yet to see. One that is the complete opposite to her vivacious and outgoing personality that many have to be familiar with.

Along with the exciting fashion editorial, Jojo is also interviewed by the magazine in a round of quick-fire “Finish That Sentence” game.

Henrik Fisker EMotion: Teaser Images

0

Elon Musk’s Tesla is far from the only luxury electric vehicle in town, as demonstrated by the Henrik Fisker EMotion, which dials up the feels. Design legend Fisker has been making waves this year with both his former automotive claim to fame, Karma, and now the Fisker Inc EMotion.

Henrik Fisker is known to be a trailblazer in the luxed-up all-electric vehicle department. His previous luxury EV model, the Karma, managed to create a buzz in the niche industry, with A-list buyers such as Leonardo DiCaprio. Although Fisker Automotive went bankrupt in 2013, it was acquired by Chinese auto-parts giant Wanxiang and has been revived, albeit without Fisker himself. Obviously, the man is not down for the count, as these tantalizing images show…

EMotion can be seen as Karma’s sleeker, bolder descendant but only time will tell if it is a more complete package. The newly-developed battery (still in development at UCLA) promises a 400-mile range for a single charge. It also features a fully-autonomous driving option and the capability to reach a top speed of 161 mph.

Outside, the EMotion also has dihedral ‘butterfly’ doors forward and back, as well adaptive LED headlights. Fisker himself notes EMotion’s interior space boasts “superb rear legroom”. For now, only the teaser images for the EMotion have arrived, so we just need to see it for real.

Review: Monument Thong Lo Condominium, Bangkok

0

Located in the heart of Sukhumvit 55 in Bangkok, The Monument Thong Lo is Sansiri’s latest high-rise luxury development. The 45-storey residence will be an architectural masterpiece designed by architecture firm Quintrix. They are known internationally for their Al Sharq Tower and Al Hamra Firdous Tower.

A new design team was tasked with creating the interior for the project. ITH interior make their mark on the project from the moment residents walk in the door. Marble will fill the space, giving a feeling of grandeur and pillars will be fitted with handpicked premium leather. The leather theme continues over to the furniture where it is combined with petrified wood.

A hallmark of the interior design and a unique space within the building is the mail room. Walking in to get your mail, one might completely forget about the bills waiting behind the stylish wood and premium leather cabinets. The brass handles hark back to yesteryears in this all inviting room.

When it comes time to head up to your apartment, private lifts whisk you skyward to your floor. Three different types of apartments are available, with no more than four units located on each storey. This has allowed for each unit to have at least one corner of the building and a 180-degree view of the city. A two bedroom with three bathrooms makes up the smaller units at 1,337 sq. ft., while the larger unit is a three bedroom, four-bathroom unit with 2,715 sq. ft. There are also penthouses available – more on that below.

All apartments will come equipped with Gessi products as bathroom furnishings. Sticking with the stylish overall feel of the residences, Rettangolo faucets will feature prominently throughout. It doesn’t stop there, marble is laid from the bathrooms through to the living room, creating a cool environment and adding to the high quality of materials used.

When you think of penthouse living, The Monument’s penthouse is exactly what one thinks of. It is big! Ranging up to 7,126 sq. ft. and featuring almost 16 and a half feet ceilings in the living rooms. One is so large in fact, that it has its own private swimming pool. There are not many sky high palaces in Bangkok with their own private outdoor pool to splash around in. For those on the lower levels, don’t feel left out as there’s a 92-foot swimming pool sculpted out of aluminum. A swimmers dream on the second floor.

Sansiri has done a great job to ensure there’s plenty of green outdoor space for an urban project. Working with landscape designer, Tectonix, two gardens have been created. One will measure 3,444 sq. ft. at the front and the second will measure 6,458 sq. ft. at the rear. This layout really gives a homely feel. Uniquely, five ancient trees will be kept on the project. They’ve been in Thong Lo for generations and add to the character of the gardens.

The Monument wouldn’t be complete without an array of facilities for its residents. There’s a nearly 10,764 sq. ft. recreational garden with a children’s playground, fitness center, large swimming pool and multipurpose area. Residents also have access to a 24-hour butler service, numerous parking spaces, security and 1-year with Quintessentially Lifestyle concierge service.

With everything at its doorstep, including Thong Lo BTS Station and a number of luxury shops and restaurants, residents of The Monument get to enjoy the very best of Bangkok.
