Hermès Flagship stores in Paris and New York to offer luxury launderette services

0

Until mid-June, iconic French luxury brand Hermès are offering more proud owners of its timeless 100% silk scarves the chance to give their prized possessions a new lease of life with a complimentary top-notch pop-up after-sales service. The world-famous saddler joins eco-minded brands Stella McCartney, ASOS, H&M, Chopard and others in jumping on the sustainable fashion bandwagon.

If you are heading to Paris or New York, a pit stop at the Hermès‘ flagship stores could be well worth your while. For a limited time only, customers can give their new luxe launderette service a whirl.

Now for the lowdown on Hermès’ upcycling innovation… HermèsMatic guarantees to make your well-worn scarves look as good as new, all thanks to three expert color-reviving wash cycles (denim blue, bright red or fuchsia). No need to rummage around for change in euros as the ‘no-snag’ service is completely free of charge.

Allow for a turnaround time of 48 hours. After being given the special HermèsMatic dip-dye treatment, the freshly laundered scarves are expertly folded and wrapped in a brown paper package, adding another much-appreciated perk to the slick service.

The dip-dye upgrade wouldn’t be complete without a little retail therapy ‘while you wait’: a dedicated space — strategically placed beside the orange washing machines, showcases the label’s vintage dip-dye Brides de gala, Quadrige, Festival des amazones, Les Clés printed classics (€350).

Hermès’ decision to extend the laundering service to a host of other boutiques comes after successful recent stints at the Dubaï, Geneva, Brussels or Basel stores, in addition to last year’s whistle-stop visits in Kyoto, Amsterdam and Munich.

The HermèsMatic Paris pop-up service is open from June 7 through June 17 at its flagship store on 17, rue de Sèvres, on Paris’s chic left bank.

The HermèsMatic laundromat service in New York will run from June 14 through June 18.

National Gallery Singapore presents ‘Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow’ exhibition

No stranger to the vibrant and quirky world of art, it’s only fitting that Yayoi Kusama’s upcoming exhibition at the National Gallery Singapore is entitled ‘Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow’. The exhibition of one of the world’s most influential artists in the 21st century, this retrospective is the first to see a congregation of Kusama’s works in Southeast Asia. Opening from June 9 to September 3, the exhibition invites audiences into the multi-dimension world of Kusama’s creative vision.

A champion of the Avant-Garde, Kusama is lauded for her signature polka-dotted artworks —especially on pumpkin motifs — as well as her breathtaking Infinity Room installations. Having worked with designers such as Marc Jacobs and luxury brand Louis Vuitton, Kusama’s works continuously inspire other art forms. The exhibition will feature over 120 of her works, which include interactive spaces, installations, sculptures and paintings. Amongst these are new pieces that have never been exhibited prior. Leading up to ‘Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow’, one of her interactive installations ‘The Obliteration Room’ has been installed in the National Gallery Singapore as part of the inagural Children’s Biennale.

The main exhibition will take place in the Gallery’s Singtel Special Exhibition Gallery. An exploration of the influence of international artists such as Kusama, the exhibition will highlight how her works were able to reach across geographical boundaries to touch the lives of people all over the world. It will also look into the personal challenges Kusama faced, and how she overcame them to impact the art world.

Other than the main retrospective, the exhibition will extend across to workshops and programmes for all ages. These include a Curatorial Rountable for a discussion on the impact and influence on Yayaoi Kusama’s works. If you are up for creating your very own Yayoi Kusama inspired piece, sign up for Sunday Studio: Marbled Patterns. These marbling workshops are available at the Keppel Centre for Art Education at various timeslots.

A collaboration between the National Gallery Singapore and Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art, ‘Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow’ will take place from June 9 to September 3. Opening hours are from 10am-7pm from Sundays to Thursdays and 10am-10pm from Fridays to Saturdays. Prices are $15 for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents and $25 for foreigners. Children enter free.

Gucci Cruise 2018 fashion show at Palatina Gallery in Florence, Italy

0

Seasons may come and go, trends will fade with time but history will always remain. Like numerous other fashion houses that fill the gap between the seasons with Cruise collections unveiled in unique and far-flung locations around the world, Gucci settled on the Palatina Gallery at Pitti Palace, Florence. For the first time the gallery played host to a fashion show and with each brand competing to host their Cruise collections in unique locations, the venue could not have been more appropriate.

Surrounded by Botticellis and Uccellos that stand proudly in the Uffizi, guests were treated not only to a fashion show but also an exclusive tour through the Vasari Corridor. The show was also a part of the multi-faceted cultural project that will help to restore, preserve and improve the Boboli Gardens. Dating back to the 16th century, the gardens are being preserved for future generations and house a “unique ecosystem” of flora and fauna that were brought to Tuscany from various corners of the globe, centuries ago. Over the next three years, Gucci — that traces its roots back to Florence — will contribute two million euros to the Uffizi Gallery.

Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci, says: “This collaboration represents a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and sustain Florence’s cultural splendour and I would like to thank all the institutions that are involved. Gucci is a global brand with strong roots in Florence. The success we have achieved in recent years through the vision of our Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, is reliant upon the skills, spirit of innovation, passion and abilities of the craftspeople and everyone else who works for the brand in Florence and the surrounding area.” Bizzarri continued, “following the presentation of the last two Cruise collections, in the art district of New York in 2015 and in the cloisters at London’s Westminster Abbey in 2016, staging the next Cruise collection show in the heart of Florence has special meaning, particularly as Alessandro is constantly inspired by the city’s Renaissance masterpieces.”

Bangkok trip: Review of W Hotel Bangkok, a stylish accommodation in the business district for party-loving people

From the outset, W Bangkok blends into its concrete surrounds of shiny skyscrapers. Inside, however, is another story. The futuristic entrance opens up to a glamorous and trippy lobby, furnished with black marble, bejewelled walls, swanky furniture and neon lighting. Electronic music permeates the space.

W Hotels are made for rock star living, and its Thai outpost is no exception. True to the W brand, W Bangkok embraces the capital’s traditions and quirks: the glittering tattoo-inspired mural behind the front desk, created by artist Maysa Yanovan, depicts a phoenix and a tiger engaged in battle; the screens at WOOBAR’s VIP rooms pay tribute to Thai boxing rings; design firm AvroKO decorated the wall of ground floor lift lobby with Tuk Tuk lights; and there’s the croc-patterned wall by Thai artist Sutee Kunavichayanont is based on “Krai Thong”, a Thai folk tale.

The hotel has 403 guestrooms and suites, two restaurants (The Kitchen Table for casual dining and The House on Sathorn for a posh meal), a bar (WOOBAR), a spa (AWAY Spa), a gym and an eye-shaped outdoor pool on the sixth floor. It’s undeniably well-geared for business considering the location – there’s a proper work desk with wired and wireless internet access in all rooms, and even a fully-equipped 24-hour WIRED Business Centre – but we find it hard to imagine getting any work done (which may be a good thing). Rooms are also open in layout, with not much privacy from your roommate save for translucent coloured glass panels that separate the bathroom and the bedroom. Oh, toilet is completely see-through, too. Throw in tubs-for-two, oversized beds, and sensual bath products from Bliss, these seductive spaces are made for more than just snoozing.

With its endless party atmosphere, it’s little wonder that W Bangkok’s busiest time of the year is in April, where Songkran-goers are known to book a room here a year in advance. Every year, the hotel throws its annual Songkran Splash Away Pool Party, touted as one of the city’s slickest parties during the Thai New Year celebrations. But if you aren’t the party type and W Bangkok seems a tad too loud for you, it’s worth popping in to dine The House of Sathorn.

Built in 1889 and formerly a Russian Embassy, the restored colonial mansion is a stark contrast to the ultra-modern aesthetic of W. Home to a restaurant, a bar, an alfresco bistro, a club lounge and a function room, The House of Sathorn is one of Bangkok’s most iconic culinary venue. Our experience at The Dining Room, helmed by Turkish chef Fatih Tutak, was delightful – every dish was Instagram-worthy, and if you get a seat at the counter, you’ll get to see all the action. Go for the “Signature Journey” for a full experience – highlights includes the Hokkaido Bafun sea urchin, Shakshuka free-ranged egg, tuna belly, the Alexandria bay red prawns, a slightly grotesque roasted pigeon named “Sultan’s Message Can’t Deliver”, which sits atop a splatter of red currant sauce and has a secret message tied to the pigeon, and three lovely desserts to finish off a theatrical meal.

Benetti launches BF104 MY ‘”Lejos 3″ from Fast 125’ line in Viareggio

0

Hitting the waters on Tuesday, May 23 at a shipyard in Viareggio was luxury yacht maker Benetti’s BF104 M/Y “Lejos 3”. The 38-metre superyacht from the Fast line of yachts is the fourth Fast 125’ unit built by the shipyard. Fitted with the innovative Azipull Carbon propulsion system, she will be delivered to the owner in the coming months.

The 38.1 metre long and 8.23-metre wide superyacht has four sprawling decks. Living spaces include an owner’s suite, four VIP cabins, a saloon and dining area and a smaller living area while the Main Deck and Upper Deck both provide copious amounts of space for guests to lounge and mingle. One of the highlights includes the Sun Deck that was designed entirely for the comfort and entertainment of its guests. The Sun Deck has a standard sized swimming pool on top of the larger custom pool available at the bow of the Upper Deck.

Benetti continues to bring stunning designs to the vessels. The exteriors are dressed in the signature sporty, sleek accents of designer Stefano Righini. Redman Whiteley Dixon is the brains behind the interiors, basing the structure on Benetti’s Air configuration — the most contemporary of the three interior decoration options offered to owners of the Fast 125’ fleet.

Of course, the Azipull Carbon propulsion system plays a big role in the technical aspect of this yacht. Developed jointly with Rolls Royce, Benetti’s new Azipull technology has enabled the Fast 125’ yachts to increase weight reduction and handling, allowing for smoother and more stable sailing. The technical innovations installed onboard include the D2P_Displacement to Planning® hull with wave piercer, which allows more streamlined movement. The yacht is able to be used both in displacement mode for reduced consumption at low speeds, as well as in planning mode at higher speeds — both being extremely convenient and comfortable for guests.

The launch of the M/Y “Lejos 3” comes just a few days after the market debut of M/Y “Skyler”, the third unit in the series, that joins the M/Y “Ironman” and the M/Y “Constance Joy”, respectively first and second hull of the Fast 125’ line.
