Fastest Audi drop-top sports car: R8 Spyder V10 Plus is lighter and more powerful

0

How fast? Audi says that thanks to a 600+hp naturally aspirated (i.e., no turbos or superchargers) V10 engine sitting behind the driver’s seat but ahead of the rear axle, this particular R8 can hit 203mph (326km/h) and will take just 3.3 seconds to hit 100km/h from standstill.

That makes it just 0.1 second slower to 100km/h than the latest McLaren and just marginally behind the 570S Spider‘s 328km/h top speed. However, Audi would rather potential clients compare the car to the standard R8 Spyder V10. Do that and the new model is 25kg lighter, serves up 65 extra horsepower, a 6mph top speed improvement and is a whole 0.3 seconds faster off the line.

To achieve these figures, Audi has looked to the track for engineering inspiration. “[The car] benefits from our many years of experience in motorsport and combines breath-taking dynamics with the emotion of an open-top sports car,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH.

So, it has aluminum double wishbone suspension, carbon ceramic composite brakes, a liquid cooling system for the multi-plate clutch and a spaceframe constructed from aluminum, carbon fiber-reinforced polymers.

“The Audi R8 Spyder V10 plus completes the R8 model line,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. “The Spyder is now also available as a 610PS top version in addition to the Coupé. It benefits from our many years of experience in motorsport and combines breathtaking dynamics with the emotion of an open-top sports car.”

What’s more, there’s Audi’s phenomenal Quattro all-wheel drive system that will literally keep the car on track, pushing torque from axle to axle for the best traction, whatever the road conditions, aligned with a dynamic driving select system. This can be set up for wet weather conditions, snow, cruising or for setting the fastest possible time around the circuit. In full race mode, the system can even stop the car from dipping under braking or rolling in corners by applying magnetic force to the shock absorbers or bracing individual wheels.

Audi will be offering owners an optional micommata green design package to go with the car at launch, which includes a unique green paint finish, a special grey finish to the front grille and black exhaust pipes. Inside the entire cabin is finished in black leather and black carbon fiber with contrasting green stitching.

However, like all supercar makers, Audi now offers a huge range of customization possibilities for those that want something even more individual.

Rihanna wears Chopard to the 2017 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers

Just four days ago, during the afternoon of June 16, Rihanna was in attendance at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris to award the annual LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers to the chosen winner. Selected by a Jury of fashion’s who’s who comprising Karl Lagerfeld, Riccardo Tisci and Bernard Arnault, the chairman and CEO of LVMH himself, Rihanna arrived at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris dressed in an unimpeachable head-to-toe Dior in a floor-length lace dress with a cleavage flattering plunging neckline and nigh scandalous thigh slit. The AeroGT concept car was the starting point for the creation of a new pair of watches inspired by the automotive world – the BR 03 AeroGT models

The worlds of supercars and horology often meet at critical junctures for fairly obvious reasons – superlative engineering and mechanical obsessions. Thus, it is little wonder that a Limited Edition model like the new Bell & Ross BR 03-94 AeroGT Orange would find inspiration in a supercar rather than a some throwback to heritage horology. That said, what is truly surprising is the fact that the BR 03-94 AeroGT Orange is based on an internally designed supercar rather than a sports-car conceptualised by a bonafide car manufacturer.

The two unusually sized exhaust pipes evoke turbojet engine exhausts, while the turbine-style rims imitate the vanes of supersonic aircraft engines. But the most impressive detail is the rear longitudinal aileron, which is reminiscent of an aircraft’s vertical stabilizer. The role of this element is to stabilize the racing car when performing quick turns.

If watch and car collaborations are commonplace, the Bell & Ross BR 03-94 AeroGT Orange runs on the opposing end of the spectrum, how often does a watchmaker design a car the way the co-founder of Bell & Ross has? Bruno Belamich, the Bell of said company had an idea to encapsulate the Bell & Ross spirit in a concept car and the summation of the brand’s values and vision birthed the AeroGT Concept Car.

Limited Edition Bell & Ross BR 03-94 AeroGT Orange

The Bell & Ross AeroGT draws its inspiration from grand tourers. The Italian term gran turismo itself is evocative of the most illustrious sports cars in automotive history with names like Ferrari 250 GTO. The Bell & Ross AeroGT celebrates the idea of the “gentlemen driver” and naturally, his choice of wristwear. Keeping in mind the brand’s aeronautical muse (cockpit instruments), the AeroGT is a super car inspired by aviation: Extremely low (1.10 m) and aerodynamic, the 4.7 meter-long car seems is designed to split the air like an arrow. Nicknamed named by some as an aeroplane-car, Its pointed forms with sharp angles and cutting overhangs are reminiscent of some stealth F117a Nighthawk.

In addition to the modular chronograph, the iconic Bell & Ross round-in-a-square case returns for the 500 piece Bell & Ross BR03-94 AeroGT Orange.

Here, the new Bell & Ross BR 03-94 AeroGT Orange is itself a design extension of the original BR 03-94 AeroGT launched in Baselworld 2015. The limited edition BR 03-94 AeroGT Orange displays the indications in a 6-9-12 layout, subsidiary seconds at 12 is a hallmark of a chronograph module set on top of an ETA 2894-2.

In addition to the modular chronograph, the iconic Bell & Ross round-in-a-square case returns for the 500 piece Bell & Ross BR03-94 AeroGT Orange. Available in 42mm x 42mm proportions, the steel BR03-94 AeroGT Orange chronograph with with circular-brushed flat surfaces and polished accents on the bevels conveys wrist presence you’d come to expect of one of the more distinctive watches in the industry. The orange design elements punch up the aesthetics and add some character to an otherwise industrial affair.

The 500 piece limited edition BR03-94 AeroGT Orange chronograph runs 42 hours when the automatic calibre BR-CAL.31 is fully wound. It is priced US$8,000.

Yacht marina in Krabi, Thailand: Port Takola offers affordable berthing for international cruisers and chartered sails during monsoon

0

Located near the popular tourist towns of Ao Nang, Krabi and Krabi International Airport, Port Takola is a new yacht marina and boatyard in Krabi, Thailand. Thanks to its proximity to attractions and modern amenities, the marina has grown to become a choice stopover destination for international cruisers and charter yachts since its phase one opening in February. It is also a convenient base for exploring Krabi as well as sailing the Thai Andaman Sea.

With the upcoming Southwest monsoon season from May to October, leaving a boat at anchor comes at a heavy risk of being prone to natural disasters. This is a period when the Thai Andaman Coast becomes dangerous for sailing and anchoring as winds reach up to 60 knots during a storm. To address this, Port Takola has introduced 20 moorings to provide an affordable berthing option for keeping one’s boat safely sheltered.

Available for boats ranging from 12-18m, the moorings are protected by the marina’s year-round shelter habour whilst also enjoying the comfort of onshore facilities and conveniently located amenities. Strong bow and stern securing will be provided, along with regular check-ups conducted by the marina team while owners are away.

All moorings are serviced on a monthly, semi-annual or annual basis and charges start from just 7,000 THB a month.

Lexus CT200h hatchback gets sportier for 2018 – for the last time

0

Despite offering a premium alternative to the likes of the Ford Focus or VW Golf, and despite being one of the few hybrids in the segment, it looks as if younger aspirational drivers are turning their backs on hatchbacks in favor of crossovers and SUVs.

So, for what could well prove to be the car‘s final production year (Lexus has already signaled its intention to withdraw the model from the US market), the company has decided to give it a sportier, more aggressive feel.

“The 2018 CT 200H has been refreshed and revitalized by enhancing its progressiveness. Despite being classified as a minor-change model, the car is more emotional and sporty than before, making it the ideal premium hybrid compact for younger customers who enjoy spirited driving, but still care about the environment,” said Chika Kako, the car’s Chief Engineer.

So, it gets the latest-generation Lexus spindle grille, but with a unique mesh pattern to help it stand out even from other Lexus models. There’s a new front bumper that essentially disappears into the front fascia so that the nose is more prominent and uncluttered and, thanks to new projector headlamps, the car’s vertical lines are also sharper and less cluttered.

At the back, new L-shaped taillights and new treatments to the rear bumper and rear windshield give the optical effect that the car is much wider while the option of 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels will give the car a lower, more potent stance.

Inside, the cabin is clean and uncluttered with a minimum of switchgear and a new infotainment system that can be specified with a widescreen 10.3-inch display. Lexus is offering owners an even wider selection of leather trim options, and a selection of eight surface veneers including bamboo.

Also making its way to the updated car for the first time is Lexus’s latest generation suite of active driver safety and assistance aids. This includes radar-guided cruise control, lane departure alert with steering wheel control function, automated headlight high beam function, and road sign recognition.

And, because Lexus is giving the entire range a sporty makeover, it has to go even further for the F Sport model. So, to ensure it is sufficiently different, visually, it’s getting a special black paint treatment on the grille and around the fog lamps, a set of 17-inch alloy wheels and a dedicated selection of two-tone leather finishes for the seats.

“The F Sport attracts younger customers, so we’ve strengthened the vehicle’s exclusive black items to reinforce its sporty nature,” said the car’s chief designer, Tetsuo Miki.
