Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève หรือ GPHG ประกาศนาฬิกาที่ผ่านการเสนอชื่อและการคัดเลือกเข้ารอบของการแข่งขันประจำปี ค.ศ. 2020 แล้ว โดยมีนาฬิกาทั้งหมด 84 รุ่นจาก 14 ประเภทรางวัล
ก่อนอื่นเลย คุณจะไม่เห็นนาฬิกา Audemars Piguet ในปีนี้ เพราะว่ากฎของ GPHG ข้อ 4.2 ระบุว่าตัวแทนหนึ่งคน (เช่น ประธาน เจ้าของหรือซีอีโอ) ของแบรนด์ที่ได้รับรางวัลใหญ่ “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix ในปีใดๆ จะต้องมาทำหน้าที่เป็นหนึ่งในคณะกรรมการในปีถัดมา และแบรนด์นั้นจะไม่ได้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันในปีดังกล่าว ดังนั้นเราจึงไม่เห็น Audemars Piguet ในปีนี้เพราะว่าเขาได้รางวัล Aiguille d’Or เมื่อปีที่แล้ว

Bovet, Bulgari และ Jacob & Co ตามมาติดๆ ด้วยจำนวนนาฬิกาที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัลแบรนด์ละ 4 รุ่น อาทิ Bovet Récital 26 Brainstorm Chapter 2 ในประเภท Mechanical Exception ซึ่งจะต้องไปขับเคี่ยวกับ Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept ที่กล่าวถึงข้างต้นและ Jacob & Co Bugatti Chiron ที่ออกแบบเครื่องนาฬิกามาให้มีชิ้นส่วนเคลื่อนไหวเป็นรูปทรงของลูกสูบเครื่องยนต์ในรถ ส่วน Bulgari ที่ว่ามี 4 รุ่นเช่นกันนั้น ได้แก่ นาฬิการุ่น Octo Finissimo S ในประเภท Men’s นาฬิการุ่น Aluminum Chronograph ในประเภท Iconic นาฬิการุ่น Serpenti Seduttori Tourbillon ในประเภท Ladies’ Complication และนาฬิการุ่น Serpenti Misteriosi Intrecciati (ได้โปรดอย่าถามว่าอ่านออกเสียงอย่างไร เพราะผู้เขียนก็ไม่เก่งภาษาอิตาเลียนเหมือนกัน) ในประเภท Jewellery
ในบรรดาแบรนด์ที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อหลายรุ่นนั้นก็ยังมี Dior, Van Cleef & Arpels และ Hermès ซึ่งเข้ารอบปีนี้ด้วยนาฬิกาแบรนด์ละ 3 รุ่น นอกนั้นก็จะเป็นแบรนด์ที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อ 2 หรือ 1 รุ่นทั้งหมดจนครบ 84 รุ่น นาฬิกาที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัลต่างๆ นี้มีที่มาจากสองแหล่งด้วยกัน นอกจากเดิมที่แต่ละแบรนด์จะสามารถส่งนาฬิกาเข้ารับการพิจารณาเพื่อร่วมประกวดโดยตรงแล้ว ในปีนี้ GPHG ยังจัดให้มี GPHG Academy หรือคณะผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิจำนวนกว่า 350 คนจากภาคส่วนต่างๆ ของอุตสาหกรรมนาฬิกา และเป็นผู้คนที่มาจากหลากหลายประเทศทั่วโลก ให้เจาเหล่านี้เป็นผู้เสนอชื่อนาฬิกาที่ตนเห็นว่าเหมาะสมที่จะได้รับรางวัลในแต่ละประเภทเข้ารับการพิจารณา
เมื่อ GPHG ได้รับรายชื่อนาฬิกาจากทั้งสองช่องทางนี้แล้วจึงให้คณะผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิทำการโหวตแบบเป็นความลับโดยไม่เปิดเผยชื่อในระบบออนไลน์ที่พัฒนาขึ้นเพื่อการนี้เป็นพิเศษ ครั้นเมื่อรวบรวมคะแนนจากผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิทุกคนแล้วจึงได้เป็นนาฬิกาจำนวน 6 รุ่นในทั้ง 14 ประเภทรางวัลดังที่เห็น หลังจากนี้ยังจะต้องมีการโหวตเลือกนาฬิกาที่จะได้รับรางวัลจริงๆ อีกครั้ง น่าจะในเดือนตุลาคมเพราะว่ามีการกำหนดวันที่ประกาศผลรางวัลไว้แล้วว่าเป็นวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 12 พฤศจิกายน สำหรับเวลานี้ หากคุณอยากรู้ว่านาฬิกาที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อมีรุ่นใดบ้าง เราแคปเจอร์ภาพหน้าจอจากเว็บไซท์ของ GPHG มาให้คุณดูแล้วทั้ง 84 รุ่นข้างใต้นี้

The 2020 edition of the highly anticipated Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève or GPHG is underway with all 84 nominated watches from the 14 categories announced this week.
First of all, you will note the absence of Audemars Piguet watches from this year’s nominations – that is because of a stipulation within the GPHG regulation. According to Article 4.2, one representative (president, owner or CEO) of the brand that wins the “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix in a given year must serve as a jury for the following year’s edition, and the said brand must be precluded from the competition. So, there is no Audemars Piguet for 2020 as they won the Aiguille d’Or back in 2019.
Piaget and Breitling have five nominated watches each. Piaget is notable for their Altiplano Ultimate Concept in the Mechanical Exception category and the Limelight Gala Precious Sapphire Gradient in the Ladies’ category. Breitling has the Chronomat B01 in the Iconic category where it will have to battle with IWC’s Portugieser Chronograph and Seiko Professional Diver’s 1000M.
Bovet, Bulgari and Jacob & Co follow closely behind with four nominated watches each. The Bovet Récital 26 Brainstorm Chapter 2 in the Mechanical Exception category – among its competitors are the aforementioned Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept and the Jacob & Co Bugatti Chiron whose pistons mimic the action of an internal combustion engine. Meanwhile, the four nominated Bulgari watches are the Octo Finissimo S in the Men’s category, Aluminum Chronograph in the Iconic category, Serpenti Seduttori Tourbillon in the Ladies’ Complication category and the Serpenti Misteriosi Intrecciati (ok, that is quite a mouthful) in the Jewellery category.
Dior, Van Cleef & Arpels and Hermès are not far behind with three nominated watches each. All other brands have either two or one nomination, completing the array of 84 nominated watches. The nominations are obtained through two sources. In addition to direct proposals by the brands as usual, this year’s edition of the GPHG has introduced the GPHG Academy, comprising more than 350 individuals from the main sectors of the international watch industry who helped to suggest the watches they deem worthy of winning in each category.
All entries were then subject to an anonymous, digital voting process by academy members on a dedicated platform. Those votes determined which six watches are eventually nominated in each of the 14 categories. Final voting will take place some time in October as the award presentation ceremony is already scheduled for Thursday 12 November 2020.
