ชื่อ Ulysse Nardin เป็นดั่งตำนานแห่งความเที่ยงตรง เพราะหลังจากที่ก่อตั้งกิจการที่เมืองเลอล็อค ประเทศสวิตเซอร์แลนด์เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1846 แบรนด์นาฬิกานี้ก็ผลิตนาฬิกาพกที่มีความเที่ยงตรงสูงเรื่อยไปจนถึงนาฬิกาประจำเรืออย่างที่เรียกว่ามารีนโครโนมิเตอร์ขายให้กับกองทัพเรือมากถึง 50 ประเทศทั่วโลก มารีนโครโนมิเตอร์ดังกล่าวนี้เป็นอุปกรณ์สำคัญในการเดินเรือ เพราะการทราบเวลาที่เที่ยงตรงจะมีส่วนช่วยให้ลูกเรือคำนวณลองติจูดได้ถูกต้องมากยิ่งขึ้น ส่งผลให้เดินเรือระยะไกลได้อย่างแม่นยำและปลอดภัยกว่ากรณีที่นาฬิกาประจำเรือไม่เที่ยงตรง เราจึงเห็นสัญลักษณ์รูปสมออย่างเด่นชัดบนโลโก้ของ Ulysse Nardin
Marine คือชื่อของคอลเลคชั่นนาฬิกาซึ่งเป็นตัวแทนของเรื่องราวแห่งการเดินทางดังกล่าว รุ่นแรกที่เราอยากจะนำเสนอก็คือ Marine Mega Yacht ซึ่งเปิดตัวครั้งแรกเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2019 ในตัวเรือนแพลทตินัม และในปีนี้จึงมีรุ่นโรสโกลด์ตามมาในจำนวนจำกัด 30 เรือนเท่ากัน Marine Mega Yacht เป็นเหมือนการเชื้อเชิญให้ผู้พบเห็นก้าวเข้าสู่โลกของวิศวกรรมขนาดเล็ก บนหน้าปัดมองเห็นชุดสมอ โซ่และกว้านซึ่งประกอบกันเป็นเข็มบอกกำลังลานสำรอง 8 วัน มีดวงจันทร์แบบสามมิติที่ตำแหน่ง 9 นาฬิกา ถัดลงมาด้านล่างมีสัญลักษณ์บอกรอบปรากฏการณ์น้ำขึ้น-น้ำลง และที่ตำแหน่ง 6 นาฬิกามีฟลายอิ้งตูร์บิยองรูปใบพัดเรือเพื่อเติมเต็มบรรยากาศแห่งการเดินเรือในครั้งนี้
และหากใครชื่นชอบนาฬิกาดีไซน์คลาสสิกอยู่แล้ว Ulysse Nardin ก็มี Marine Torpilleur เพิ่งจะออกใหม่อีกหลายรุ่นในช่วงต้นเดือนนี้ที่คุณจะทำให้คุณตกหลุมรักเข้าได้ง่ายๆ คำว่า torpilleur นี้เป็นคำในภาษาฝรั่งเศสที่หมายถึงเรือตอร์ปีโดซึ่งเป็นเรือนเล็กที่ออกแบบมาเพื่อความคล่องตัวและสามารถบรรทุกตอร์ปีโดได้ด้วย ชื่อนี้จึงเหมาะเป็นอย่างยิ่งสำหรับนาฬิกาในไลน์นี้ที่ออกแบบมาเพื่อการสวมใส่ในชีวิตประจำวัน อย่างเช่น Marine Torpilleur Annual Chronograph ตัวเรือนสเตนเลสสตีลขนาด 44 มม. หน้าปัดสีน้ำเงินหรือสีขาว ผลิตเป็นจำนวนจำกัดสีละ 300 เรือน ทำงานด้วยเครื่องออโต้แบบอินเฮ้าส์รุ่น UN-153 ซึ่งมีเข็มบอกเดือนซ้อนอยู่ใต้เข็มวินาทีที่ตำแหน่ง 9 นาฬิกา

และเราก็มาถึงอีกรุ่นสำคัญที่จะข้ามไปไม่ได้ นั่นก็คือ Marine Torpilleur Tourbillon Grand Feu ซึ่งเป็น Marine Torpilleur รุ่นที่ซับซ้อนที่สุดและผลิตเป็นจำนวนจำกัดเพียง 175 เรือนเท่านั้นด้วยตัวเรือนโรสโกลด์ กลไกฟลายอิ้งตูร์บิยองเพื่อความเที่ยงตรงของนาฬิการุ่นนี้มียูลิสแองเคอร์เอสเคปเมนท์เหมือนกับนาฬิกา Ulysse Nardin Uysse Anchor Tourbillon ที่ได้รับรางวัล Tourbillon Watch Prize จากรายการ Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève หรือ GPHG ปี ค.ศ. 2015 หน้าปัดสีดำอันไร้ที่ติของนาฬิการุ่นนี้เป็นงานกร็องเฟอเอนาเมลฝีมือของ Donzé Cadrans ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทลูกของ Ulysse Nardin ที่เชี่ยวชาญงานหน้าปัดโดยเฉพาะ ถือเป็นความพยายามของแบรนด์อายุ 175 ปีนี้ในการผสานสิ่งที่เป็นมรดกตกทอดและเทคโนโลยีที่ล้ำสมัยได้อย่างลงตัว

The story of Ulysse Nardin is that of extreme precision. Established in 1846, the company from Le Locle, Switzerland, went on to supply as many as 50 navies with not only highly precise pocket watches but also marine chronometers to improve the ship’s celestial navigation efficiency. With accurate time information from these desk-bound devices, the crew were able to calculate their longitude with greater precision, giving them greater success and enhanced safety as they sailed to faraway lands. We are constantly reminded of this defining chapter of the manufacture’s history by the anchor which sits prominently at the centre of their logo.
The modern Marine collection embodies both the ideals and the romance of such voyages. Originally introduced in 2019, the Marine Mega Yacht is presented in a new rose gold iteration this year. This avant-garde timepiece is like an open invitation into the world of micro engineering with exposed yet functional components like the anchor, chain and windlass system that serve to indicate the remaining power reserve out of the full eight days. Other elements gracing this open dial include the three dimensional moon phase indicator at nine o’clock, the tide volume indicator just below, and the propeller-shaped flying tourbillon at six o’clock. Same as the original platinum version, this rose gold verson is produced in a limited edition of 30 pieces only.
Customers who prefer a more classical styling need not fret. A slew of novelties is launched just this month under the Marine Torpilleur badge. Torpilleur is French for torpedo boat: a class of vessel designed to be smaller and more agile but with the ability to carry torpedoes. The nomenclature is perfect for these practical and highly wearable watches like the Marine Torpilleur Annual Chronograph with either blue or white dial whose UN-153 in-house, self-winding movement offers a subtle month indication at nine o’clock. Three hundred pieces will be produced of each colour of this 44 mm stainless steel watch.
Following in the same pattern of 300 units each with a blue or white dial, the Marine Torpilleur Moonphase in stainless steel reconnects the modern man with the earth’s one and only natural satellite. As demonstrated in the Marine Mega Yacht, the phase of the moon, or more precisely, the gravitational pull at each stage of the lunar cycle causes high and low tides. Therefore, its presence on the dial of this 42 mm watch is as relevant as it is romantic. Counterbalancing this at the top of the dial is a power reserve indicator to show the remaining running time from the full 60 hours of the in-house, self-winding Calibre UN-119.
Lastly, we must include in this write-up the Marine Torpilleur Tourbillon Grand Feu as it is the most complicated model within the Marine Torpilleur. Produced in a limited run of only 175 units, this timepiece in rose gold proposes maximum precision with the flying tourbillon of the same advanced Ulysse Anchor escapement design as the Ulysse Nardin Ulysse Anchor Tourbillon which won the Tourbillon Watch Prize at the 2015 edition of Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève or GPHG. The black dial, produced by Ulysse Nardin specialist subsidiary Donzé Cadrans, is a flawless piece of grand feu enamel. The combination of what is old and new is once again sublime at this 175-year-old watch brand.
