Meet the new Laureato timepieces in pink gold with an onyx dial, and in stainless steel with a green Clous de Paris dial.

This writer has a soft spot for black onyx as a dial material. And when it is used in combination with a pink gold case by a heritage brand, everything just sounds even better, like the Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42 mm Pink Gold & Onyx. The manufacture’s marketing team has done their best job possible by describing it as “a symphony of shapes and sumptuous hues”.
Sophistication is evident in the juxtaposition of the polished and satin finishes throughout the surface area of the case and bracelet. The multi-layer nature of the bezel affords extra flair where the contrasting surfaces cannot help but dance in the light with every turn of your wrist. For the dial itself, at least 15 different operations are required to shape and polish the black onyx by hand until the mirror-like appearance is achieved. Applied logo and hour markers seem as if they are floating in the vacuum of darkness.
Where watchmaking content is concerned, the self-winding movement GP01800-1404 with its pink gold rotor is clearly visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. The Laureato 42 mm Pink Gold & Onyx is sold on either a matching pink gold bracelet or a black alligator strap with a folding pink gold buckle.
The other novelty of interest for this article shares the same size as the Laureato 42 mm Pink Gold & Onyx, but its case and bracelet are crafted from stainless steel. Its key selling feature is the green dial which, in addition to being the hottest trend of the watch market right now, is the colour for harmony, health, hope and prosperity.
A decision was made at Girard-Perregaux to match the verdant shade with the Clous de Paris pattern in order to emphasise the gradation of the colour under different lighting conditions. It must be noted also that it is the first three-hand Laureato watch with a dial flange in a contrasting colour from that of the dial. On this timepiece, the dial flange is black to match the hour hand, the minute hand and the hour markers. The look achieved is quite sportive while maintaining the elegance that the Laureato line has built since 1975. The Laureato 42 mm Green is powered by the self-winding Calibre GP01800-2035 with 54 hours of power reserve that is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.
