Piaget ผลิต Altiplano Ultimate Concept ขายจริงแล้ว หลังโชว์ตัวในรูปแบบโปรโตไทป์เมื่อสองปีก่อน

งานประดิษฐ์สองแนวที่ได้รับการยกย่องว่าเป็นเรื่องยากในวงการนาฬิกานั้น ได้แก่ การบรรจุคอมพลิเคชั่นจำนวนมากมายหลายชนิดลงไปในนาฬิกาเรือนเดียว หรือ การทำนาฬิกาเรือนหนึ่งให้บางที่สุดเท่าที่จะบางได้ ซึ่งในเรื่องความบางนี้ Piaget ก็ขึ้นชื่อในฐานะแบรนด์ที่มีความเชี่ยวชาญมาตั้งแต่ที่ผลิตเครื่องนาฬิกาไขลานแบบอัลตราธินรุ่น 9P เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1957 ซึ่งบางเพียงแค่ 2 มม. จากนั้นจึงมีรุ่น 12P ตามมาโดยเป็นเครื่องออโต้แต่ความหนาเพิ่มขึ้นมาเพียงแค่ 0.3 มม. ส่วนในยุคสมัยปัจจุบันนั้น Piaget ก็มีเครื่อง 900P เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2014 ที่ปูทางให้มีการพัฒนานาฬิการุ่นที่เราเลือกมาไฮไลท์กันในวันนี้
Piaget เผยโฉมนาฬิกา Altiplano Ultimate Concept ในลักษณะโปรโตไทป์เป็นครั้งแรกเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2018 ที่งาน SIHH โดยมีความหนาของนาฬิกาทั้งเรือน (ไม่ใช่แค่เครื่อง) เพียง 2 มม. เท่านั้น ที่เป็นเช่นนั้นได้ก็เพราะว่า Piaget ใช้ตัวเรือนเพื่อเป็นฐานโครงสร้างของเครื่องไปในตัว แม้แต่เม็ดมะยมก็ยังเป็นแบบซ่อนซึ่งเรียบเนียนไปกับตัวเรือนจนมองไม่เห็นเวลาไม่ใช้งาน แต่ด้วยความบางเช่นนี้ทำให้ Piaget ไม่สามารถใช้ทองในการผลิตตัวเรือนได้ และต้องพัฒนาอัลลอยที่มีโคบอลท์เป็นองค์ประกอบหลักในการผลิตตัวเรือนนาฬิการุ่นนี้แทน
ชิ้นส่วนต่างๆ ของเครื่องนาฬิกาอย่างเช่นวีลซึ่งปกติก็บางอยู่แล้วก็ยังต้องทำให้บางลงอีกเกือบครึ่ง แบเรลเป็นเปิด มองเห็นเมนสปริงที่ทำให้เรือนเวลารุ่นนี้มีกำลังสำรอง 40 ชั่วโมง และแซฟไฟร์คริสตอลซึ่งในนาฬิกาทั่วไปต้องหนา 1 มม. ก็ถูกเฉือนหายไป 80% จนเหลือเพียงแค่ 0.2 มม. เท่านั้น
แน่นอนว่าทุกคนที่ได้เห็นนาฬิการุ่นนี้เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2018 ต่างถามเป็นเสียงเดียวกันหมดว่าแล้ว Piaget จะผลิตนาฬิการุ่นนี้มาขายจริงหรือไม่ แล้วถ้าผลิตจริง นาฬิการุ่นนี้จะทนทานพอสำหรับการสวมใส่ในชีวิตจริงหรือไม่ ในปีนี้ Piaget จึงออกมายืนยันว่า “จะผลิตจริง” และ “ทนทานพอแน่” โดยมีระยะเวลาการพัฒนานาน 6 ปีและสิทธิบัตร 5 ใบเป็นประกัน แต่ราคาค่าตัวของความพิเศษนั้นก็เอาเรื่องอยู่เพราะว่าจะต้องยอมจ่ายหนักถึง 12.5 ล้านบาทเพื่อแลกกับความบางแบบสุดขีดนี้

Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept is finally offered as a commercial product, after having been shown as a prototype two years ago.

In the world of watchmaking, two efforts are particularly lauded: packing as many complications as possible into a single watch or making one as thin as possible. Piaget is known to be a master of the latter, having secured a leading position in this regard on multiple occasions. Their 9P ultra-thin hand-winding movement in 1957 measured a mere 2 mm. It was followed by the 12P where the self-winding capability was added at the mere cost of 0.3 mm in extra thickness. In modern times, Piaget’s Calibre 900P in 2014 paved the way for the development of this novelty we are highlighting.
The Altiplano Ultimate Concept was originally revealed to the press as a prototype watch at the 2018 edition of SIHH. The timepiece measured only 2 mm in thickness because the case itself already served as the foundation for the movement – it even boasted an integrated winding crown that disappears from view when not in use. Note that gold is too soft a material for the purpose, so the manufacture had to specifically engineer a cobalt-based alloy for this project instead.
Elsewhere, all movement parts like the wheels, which are already thin, needed to be made thinner almost by half. The barrel is of an exposed design, showing the spring that makes up the 40-hour power reserve of the movement. Even the sapphire crystal that is about 1 mm thick on a regular watch must be made 80% thinner to an unthinkable thickness of only 0.2 mm.
Naturally, many who had seen the watch in 2018 questioned if it could be produced commercially and if it would be fit for real world wearing. Piaget confirmed at Watches & Wonders Geneva this year that “they can” and “it is”, so we have here for purchasing the Altiplano Ultimate Concept – a product of six years and five patents that will set you back a good 12.5 million baht.
