Breitling, Panerai และ Oris สร้างความตระหนักในสังคมด้วยนาฬิกาดำน้ำแนวรักษ์โลก

กระแสรณรงค์ให้เกิดความตื่นตัวในการดูแลและรักษาโลกใบนี้มีเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่องในทุกอุตสาหกรรมไม่เว้นแม้แต่วงการนาฬิกา จากประสบการณ์ที่ได้เยี่ยมชมโรงงานนาฬิกาต่างๆ ในประเทศสวิตเซอร์แลนด์นั้น เราก็เห็นแล้วว่าแต่ละแห่งมีแผนในเรื่องของการจัดการกับขยะและของเสียไว้เป็นอย่างดี ทั้งยังมีแผนในการนำวัสดุเหลือใช้กลับมารีไซเคิลโดยให้เกิดความสูญเสียอย่างน้อยที่สุดและทำมานานแล้ว แต่ความพยายามเหล่านั้นเป็นกระบวนการเบื้องหลังที่ผู้บริโภคไม่ได้รับรู้ด้วย ดังนั้น เพื่อช่วยสร้างความตระหนักในวงกว้าง หลายแบรนด์จึงมีแนวคิดในการออกแบบนาฬิกาให้มีส่วนประกอบจากวัสดุรีไซเคิลแล้วนำมาเป็นประเด็นในการสื่อสารเสียเลย
Breitling เป็นหนึ่งในตัวอย่างของความจริงจังดังกล่าวโดยมุ่งไปที่การฟื้นฟูและปกป้องทะเล Superocean Heritage II Chronograph 44 Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition จำนวน 1,000 เรือนคือนาฬิการุ่นแรกที่ใช้สายนาโต้วัสดุอีโคนิลซึ่งเป็นวัสดุรีไซเคิลจากไนลอนที่ใช้แล้วซึ่งแหจับปลาก็เป็นหนึ่งในของที่เข้าข่ายนี้ นับเป็นก้าวสำคัญที่ Breitling มีความมุ่งมั่นที่จะร่วมมือกับองค์กรอนุรักษ์มหาสมุทร Ocean Conservancy ในการแก้ปัญหาขยะในท้องทะเลในโลกของเรา
Superocean Heritage II Chronograph มีตัวเรือนผลิตจากสเตนเลสสตีลขนาด 44 มม. กันน้ำลึก 200 เมตร กระจกแซฟไฟร์คริสตอลเคลือบสารกันสะท้อนทั้งสองด้านเพื่อการอ่านค่าที่ชัดเจน ทำงานด้วยกลไกอัตโนมัติเครื่องอินเฮ้าส์คาลิเบอร์ Breitling 13 พลังงานสำรอง 48 ชั่วโมง ขอบตัวเรือนแบบหมุนทิศทางเดียวเพื่อการใช้ดำน้ำ ฝาหลังแกะสลักโลโก้ Ocean Conservancy และบรรจุภัณฑ์ของนาฬิการุ่นนี้ยังผลิตมาจากวัสดุรีไซเคิลทั้ง 100% ด้วย
Panerai ก็เล็งเห็นถึงความสำคัญที่จะร่วมรณรงค์ให้เกิดความยั่งยืนกับโลกใบนี้เช่นกัน นาฬิกา Panerai Submersible Mike Horn Edition PAM00984 และ PAM00985 มีตัวเรือนขนาด 47 มม. ขอบตัวเรือนและการ์ดป้องกันเม็ดมะยมที่ผลิตจากวัสดุอีโคไทเทเนียมซึ่งเป็นการนำไทเทเนียมเก่ามารีไซเคิลใหม่เพื่อประหยัดทรัพยากรของโลก สายของนาฬิการุ่นนี้แข็งแรง ทนทาน มีน้ำหนักเบา และก็ผลิตจากวัสดุรีไซเคิลเช่นกันแต่เป็นพลาสติกพีอีทีซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในปัญหาที่ท้องทะเลประสบอยู่ในเวลานี้

สุดท้ายคือ Oris ซึ่งให้ความช่วยเหลือแก่องค์กรที่รณรงค์เกี่ยวกับท้องทะเลต่างๆ มาโดยตลอด และในวันที่ 8 มิถุนายนซึ่งเป็น World Oceans Day นี้ Oris ก็ได้เปิดตัวนาฬิการุ่นสุดท้ายในชุด Ocean Trilogy นาฬิการุ่นดังกล่าวมีชื่อว่า Blue Whale Limited Edition ซึ่งออกแบบมาเพื่อย้ำเตือนให้ผู้บริโภคตระหนักถึงปริมาณของประชากรวาฬที่ลดลง นี่คือนาฬิกา Aquis Chronograph รุ่นแรกที่มีการวางวงโครโนกราฟในตำแหน่งสาม หกและเก้านาฬิกาอยู่ในตัวเรือนสเตนเลสสตีลขนาด 45.5 มม. และใครที่อยากจะเป็นเจ้าของนาฬิการุ่นนี้ก็จะต้องซื้อชุด Oris Ocean Trilogy ซึ่งมีนาฬิกาอีกสองรุ่น ได้แก่ Great Barrier Reef Edition III ตัวเรือนสเตนเลสสตีลขนาด 43.5 มม. เพื่อการฟื้นฟูแนวปะการังของออสเตรเลีย และ Clean Ocean Limited Edition ตัวเรือนสเตนเลสสตีลขนาด 39.5 มม. เพื่อสนับสนุนโครงการคัดกรองขยะในมหาสมุทรแปซิฟิก โดยเซ็ท Oris Ocean Trilogy นี้มีจำนวนจำกัดเพียง 200 เซ็ทเท่านั้น กล่องหลากสีของนาฬิกาสามเรือนนี้ผลิตจากวัสดุพีอีทีที่นำไปรีไซเคิลได้อย่างสวยงามและมีเอกลักษณ์

Breitling, Panerai and Oris promote conservation awareness with thematic dive watches.

Increasingly, the various industries of the world pitch in to do whatever they can to protect the earth. The same is true for the watchmaking industry. From our visits to the manufactures in Switzerland, we have seen how they handle and manage waste, as well as to send appropriate materials to the recycle process to ensure minimal disposal. This is not new. They have been doing that for a long time now, but it is a background process not shown to the customers. In order to help create conservation awareness among the wider audience, a few watch brands are designing special timepieces with components made specifically from recycled materials so they can become talking points.
Breitling provides the first example of this undertaking with their Superocean Heritage II Chronograph 44 Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition watch. Produced in a series of 1,000 pieces, the timepiece is the first to be presented with an Econyl strap. The material is made from recycled nylon products, among them the fishing nets. The ambition is realised in collaboration with Ocean Conservancy: an advocacy group working to combat the garbage situation in our oceans.
The 44 mm stainless steel case of the Superocean Heritage II Chronograph is water resistant to 200 metres, and equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel for diving use. Its sapphire crystal is given anti-reflective coating on both sides for maximum clarity. The in-house Breitling 13 Calibre is self-winding with a power reserve of 48 hours. To complete the design, the Ocean Conservancy logo is engraved on the caseback, and the packaging this watch comes in is made completely of recycled materials.
Panerai has a similar approach towards sustainability. Their new Panerai Submersible Mike Horn Edition PAM00984 and PAM00985 watches are a representation of that ideal. Their 47 mm case, bezel and crown protection device are made of Eco-Titanium, essentially recycled titanium to reduce exploitation of natural resources. Their strap is made of recycled material as well, turning PET plastic – a great problem of the seas – into a light yet durable watch strap.
PAM00984 features green luminous material, and comes with a black PET strap. On the other hand, the PAM00985, a limited edition of only 19 units, has the luminous material in blue and the PET strap in dark blue. Purchasers of the PAM00985 will join a trip to the arctic to study the glacial nature and the significance of the ecosystem with none other but the eponymous Mike Horn – the renowned explorer has been an ambassador of Panerai for over 15 years.
Lastly, we have Oris and their long history of ocean-related partnership. On this World Oceans Day of 8 June, Oris has unveiled the last piece in the 3-watch Ocean Trilogy set. The Blue Whale Limited Edition is designed to alert consumers of the decreasing whale population. It is the first Aquis Chronograph to have the 3-6-9 tricompax layout in a 45.5 mm stainless steel case. The watch is not sold separately, but only as a part of the Oris Ocean Trilogy set which includes the Great Barrier Reef Edition III in a 43.5 mm stainless steel case to help restore Australia’s landmark reef system, and the Clean Ocean Limited Edition in a 39.5 mm stainless steel case to support a project that attempts to capture plastic garbage before it reaches the Pacific Ocean. The Oris Ocean Trilogy is limited to only 200 sets. It is presented in a unique and aesthetically interesting presentation box made of recycled PET material.
These watches are ideal communication tools to help raise conservation awareness among the consumers, and to encourage a step towards actions that will lead to a cleaner, less polluted and more habitable world. They may be a small step but a needed one if we are to save the earth for the later generations – one which will lead to more and sustainable improvements for the future.
