สานต่อตำนานเรือนเวลาที่มีชื่อว่า Tuna หนึ่งในสามผลิตภัณฑ์รุ่นพิเศษเพื่อฉลองครบรอบ 55 ปีของการบุกเบิกวงการนาฬิกาดำน้ำของ Seiko

Seiko เริ่มผลิตนาฬิกาดำนำจำหน่ายตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1965 และกลายมาเป็นตัวเลือกสำคัญของนักดำน้ำ นักผจญภัยและนักวิจัยที่ต้องไปปฏิบัติหน้าที่ในพื้นที่สุดขอบโลกต่างๆ และในปีนี้ เพื่อฉลองโอกาสครบรอบ 55 ปีของจุดเริ่มต้นดังกล่าว Seiko จึงผลิตนาฬิการุ่นพิเศษออกมาเป็นชุดสามรุ่นในแนวไตรภาคโดยอิงพื้นฐานการออกแบบจากนาฬิการุ่นต้นแบบจากปี ค.ศ. 1965, ค.ศ. 1968 และ ค.ศ. 1975 โดย Seiko ได้เผยโฉมนาฬิกาชุดไตรภาคนี้ไปแล้วตั้งแต่เดือนมีนาคมแต่ของมีกำหนดส่งไปยังประเทศต่างๆ ในเดือนกรกฎาคม สิงหาคมและกันยายนตามลำดับ ทุกรุ่นผลิตเป็นจำนวนจำกัด 1,100 เรือน
แต่นาฬิกาไตรภาคดังกล่าวนั้นจะดูวินเทจเฉพาะลุคเท่านั้น ในเรื่องงานผลิตนั้นจัดว่ามีความทันสมัยในแง่สเปคและงานผลิต จุดสำคัญที่ต้องกล่าวถึงก็คือการใช้สเตนเลสสตีลเกรดพิเศษที่มีชื่อเรียกว่าเอเวอร์บริลเลียนท์สตีลซึ่งได้รับการพัฒนาขึ้นมาให้มีความทนทานต่อการกัดกร่อนเป็นพิเศษและเหมาะสมกับการใช้งานในทะเลลึก ข้อมูลจาก Seiko ระบุว่านี่เป็นครั้งแรกที่มีการใช้สตีลเกรดดังกล่าวในวงการนาฬิกา โดย Seiko ใช้เอเวอร์บริลเลียนท์สตีลในการผลิตตัวเรือนของรุ่นย้อนยุค 1965 และ 1968 และขอบตัวเรือนของรุ่นย้อนยุค 1975
สำหรับรุ่นสุดท้ายที่เป็นตัวย้อนยุค 1975 นั้นมีรหัสรุ่นคือ SLA041 และเป็นรุ่นที่มีความโดดเด่นที่สุดในชุดไตรภาคนี้ ตัวดั้งเดิมของนาฬิการุ่นดังกล่าวมีชื่อเล่นในวงการว่า “ทูน่า” ด้วยรูปทรงของตัวเรือนไทเทเนียมแบบวันพีซที่ฝังอยู่ในตัวเรือนชั้นนอกเพื่อการปกป้องอีกระดับ นาฬิการุ่นนี้ได้รับการออกแบบมาให้ใช้ปะเก็นรูปทรงตัวแอลที่ช่วยป้องกันไม่ให้ฮีเลียมเข้าไปในตัวเรือนนาฬิกาได้ตั้งแต่แรก จึงไม่ต้องมีวาล์วเพื่อปล่อยฮีเลียมแต่อย่างใด กว่าจะเปิดตัวรุ่นดั้งเดิมเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1975 ได้นั้น Seiko ก็ต้องใช้เวลาวิจัยและพัฒนานานถึงเจ็ดปี และบนหน้าปัดมีตัวอักษรระบุคำว่า “Professional” อย่างเต็มภาคภูมิ
Seiko 1975 Professional Diver’s 600m Re-creation (SLA041) ตั้งชื่อตามรุ่นดั้งเดิมแต่มีประสิทธิภาพในการดำน้ำที่เพิ่มขึ้นอีกเป็น 1,000 เมตร และ SLA041 สามารถทนทานต่อสนามแม่เหล็กได้ถึงระดับ 40,000 แอมแปร์/เมตรซึ่งสูงกว่านาฬิกาอีกสองรุ่นในชุดไตรภาคเดียวกันนี้ด้วย นั่นก็เป็นเพราะว่าหน้าปัดของ SLA041 ผลิตจากแร่เหล็กบริสุทธิ์นั่นเอง
หากดูขนาดจากตัวเลขในสเปคจะรู้สึกว่า SLA041 ใหญ่โตมาก (เส้นผ่าศูนย์กลาง 52.4 มม. หนา 17.2 มม.) แต่เมื่อสวมใส่จริงแล้วจะไม่ได้โตขนาดนั้น เพราะสายซิลิโตนสไตล์แอคคอร์เดียนก็ช่วยไว้ส่วนหนึ่งด้วย นาฬิกาที่มีตัวเรือนชั้นในผลิตจากไทเทเนียมและขอบตัวเรือนผลิตจากเอเวอร์บริลเลียนท์สตีลรุ่นนี้ทำงานด้วยเครื่องออโต้รุ่นคาลิเบอร์ 8L35 ซึ่งมีกำลังลานสำรอง 50 ชั่วโมงที่พัฒนาและประกอบเพื่อการใช้งานในนาฬิกาดำน้ำ Seiko โดยเฉพาะที่สตูดิโอประกอบนาฬิกาชิซูกุอิชิในเมืองโมริโอกะ จังหวัดอิวาเตะ ซึ่งเป็นสถานที่เดียวกันกับที่ใช้ผลิตนาฬิกา Grand Seiko แซฟไฟร์คริสตอลมีการเคลือบสารป้องกันแสงสะท้อนไว้บนด้านใน ส่วนเข็มบอกเวลาและหลักชั่วโมงต่างๆ นั้นก็มีการเคลือบสารเรืองแสงลูมิไบรท์ไว้เป็นที่เรียบร้อย เพื่อความชัดเจนในการอ่านค่าในทุกสภาพแสง

The SLA041 is arguably the most iconic member of the 55 years Seiko dive watch re-creation trilogy.

Seiko started making dive watches in 1965 and quickly became the watch of choice for many divers, adventurers and researchers, thanks to their reliability. As the year 2020 marks the 55th anniversary of the company’s dive watch production, a series of three watches, collectively referred to as the trilogy, were revealed earlier in March with scheduled delivery of July, August and September. They are essentially re-creations of historic dive watches from 1965, 1968 and 1975 – all limited to 1,100 pieces each.
Despite being faithful to the original designs, this trilogy of re-creations represents modern-day advancements in terms of specifications and execution. The most important detail to note about them is the use of an advanced grade of stainless steel called Ever-Brilliant Steel. This new material is developed with the goal of being the world’s most corrosion resistant steel for deep sea use. It is used for the first time in the watch industry, according to a Seiko research, to produce the case for the 1965 and the 1968 re-creations and the bezel of the 1975 re-creation.
That last watch, the 1975 re-creation (SLA041), is the most visually distinctive of all. Its original was nicknamed the Tuna because of the way the one-piece titanium case and the outer case protector looked. Also, it was notable for the use of an L-shaped gasket which prevented helium from entering the case, nullifying the need for a helium escape valve. The original 1975 Professional Diver’s 600m was a product of a 7-year development and proudly displayed the “Professional” designation on the dial.
For 2020, the SLA041 or the 1975 Professional Diver’s 600m Re-creation may be named after the original watch but its water resistance rating is in fact 1,000 metres. Compared to the other two watches in the trilogy, it also has a higher resistance against magnetism of 40,000 a/m, due to the fact that its dial is made of pure iron.
The watch with titanium inner case and Ever-Brilliant Steel bezel may seem massive from the specifications (52.4 mm in diameter and 17.2 mm in thickness) but the watch is more wearable than the figures suggest with the accordion-style silicone strap. It is powered by the self-winding Calibre 8L35 with 50 hours of power reserve, developed and assembled exclusively for Seiko diver watches at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio – the same location as Grand Seiko watches in a small town called Morioka of Iwate Prefecture. Its sapphire crystal is treated with anti-reflective coating on the inside, and the hands and the hour markers are coated with LumiBrite, for optimal legibility under all lighting circumstances.
