นาฬิกา Seiko รุ่นพิเศษเพื่อรำลึกถึงสุดยอดนักปีนเขาชาวญี่ปุ่นนาโอมิ อุเอมูระที่หายตัวไปในพายุหิมะ

หากเขายังอยู่บนโลกนี้ ในปีนี้คุณนาโอมิ อุเอมูระจะมีอายุครบ 80 ปีพอดี นักผจญภัยชาวญี่ปุ่นผู้นี้สร้างชื่อให้กับตนเองในยุคทศวรรษที่ 1960 และ 1970 ด้วยการพิชิตยอดเขาชื่อดังของโลกมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นมงต์บล็อง แมตเตอร์ฮอร์นหรือคิลิมันจาโรซึ่งทั้งหมดนี้เขาเก็บเรียบมาหมดแล้วตั้งแต่อายุเพียง 29 ปี คุณนาโอมิยังเป็นชาวญี่ปุ่นคนแรกด้วยที่สามารถปีนขึ้นไปถึงยอดเขาเอเวอร์เรสต์ได้สำเร็จในปี ค.ศ. 1970 แต่อนิจจาว่าเขาหายตัวไปขณะกลับลงมาจากเดนาลีซึ่งเป็นยอดเขาที่สูงที่สุดในทวีปอเมริกาเหนือเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1984
อ่านมาถึงตรงนี้ก็เชื่อว่าทุกท่านเดาถูกแล้วว่าคุณนาโอมิใส่นาฬิกา Seiko และทางแบรนด์เองก็มีข้อมูลที่ชัดเจนด้วยว่านักผจญภัยชาวญี่ปุ่นท่านนี้เลือกใช้นาฬิกาดำน้ำของ Seiko รุ่นปี ค.ศ. 1970 เป็นอุปกรณ์ประจำกายขณะที่เดินทางด้วยสุนัขลากเลื่อนแบบโซโลเป็นระยะทาง 12,500 กิโลเมตรจากกรีนแลนด์ไปยังอลาสก้าช่วงปี ค.ศ. 1974-1976 นาฬิการุ่นดังกล่าวมีรูปทรงที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ด้วยตัวเรือนที่โค้งมนพร้อมส่วนขยายด้านข้างที่ทำหน้าที่ปกป้องเม็ดมะยมจากการกระทบกระทั่งต่างๆ และด้วยความที่เป็นนาฬิกาดำน้ำจึงมีความทนทานเหลือเฟือสำหรับภารกิจสุดโหดที่อยู่บนบกด้วยเช่นกัน
ในปีนี้ Seiko ได้นำเอานาฬิการุ่นดังกล่าวมาตีความใหม่ในรูปแบบร่วมสมัยจนเกิดเป็น Seiko Prospex The 1970’s Diver’s Modern Re-interpretations Naomi Uemura 80th Anniversary Limited Edition (SLA049) โทนสีน้ำเงินของนาฬิการุ่นนี้สื่อถึงสีของท้องฟ้ายามเมื่อเราขึ้นไปอยู่บนภูเขาสูงแบบเช่นที่คุณนาโอมิปีนขึ้นไป บนพื้นหน้าปัดมีการตกแต่งให้เป็นลวดลายคล้ายกับผิวของยอดเขาอีกด้วย ทั้งหมดอยู่ภายใต้แซฟไฟร์คริสตอลที่มีการเคลือบสารป้องกันแสงสะท้อนไว้ทางด้านใน นาฬิการุ่นนี้มีตัวเรือนสเตนเลสสตีลมีขนาด 44 มม. หนา 13 มม. สวมใส่ด้วยสายสตีลหรือสายซิลิโคนลายรางรถไฟที่แถมให้มาด้วยในชุด สำหรับ SLA049 นี้จะผลิตเป็นจำนวนจำกัดเพียง 1,200 เรือนเท่านั้นที่สตูดิโอประกอบนาฬิการะดับไฮเอ็นด์ของ Seiko ที่มีชื่อว่าชิซูกูอิชิทางตอนเหนือของประเทศ
พร้อมกันนี้ Seiko ก็ผลิตรุ่นที่ไม่ใช่ลิมิเต็ดด้วยในรหัส SLA051 สเปคและหน้าตาโดยรวมเหมือนกันกับ SLA049 เครื่องที่ใช้ก็เป็นเครื่องออโต้รุ่น 8L35 ที่มีกำลังลานสำรอง 50 ชั่วโมงเหมือนกัน ตัวเรือนกันน้ำ 200 เมตรเหมือนกันและมีการสลักชื่อคุณนาโอมิ อุเอมูระบนฝาหลังเหมือนกัน รายละเอียดที่แตกต่างจากตัวลิมิเต็ดจริงๆ ก็คือโทนสีที่เป็นสีชาร์โคลเกรย์คล้ายกับรุ่นดั้งเดิมจากปี ค.ศ. 1970 ทั้งนี้ รุ่น SLA051 ก็ยังคงไว้ซึ่งลวดลายภูเขาบนพื้นหน้าปัดเหมือนอย่างรุ่น SLA049

Meet the Seiko Prospex The 1970’s Diver’s Modern Re-interpretations SLA049 and SLA051.

If Naomi Uemura were alive, this would be the year he celebrated his 80th birthday anniversary. The Japanese adventurer is best known for his achievements in the ‘60s and the ‘70s. Uemura had conquered Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and Mount Kilimanjaro by the age of 29. He was also the first Japanese to have reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1970. Unfortunately, in 1984, Uemura went missing in 1984 upon his descent from Denali – the highest peak in North America.
You would have guessed by now that Uemura wore a Seiko watch. Well, yes, he did. Seiko has information that the adventurer wore a 1970 Seiko diver’s watch during his 12,500 kilometres solo dog sled run from Greenland to Alaska between 1974 and 1976. The watch was characterised by a characteristic case whose shape is defined by the flowing extension that enveloped the crown. Being a diver’s watch meant its structural integrity was fit for the rigour of land-bound missions as well.
Seiko applied their lens of modern re-interpretation on the said watch and produced the Seiko Prospex The 1970’s Diver’s Modern Re-interpretations Naomi Uemura 80th Anniversary Limited Edition (SLA049). Measuring 44 mm in diameter and 13 mm in thickness, the stainless steel watch features blue tones which allude to the colour of the sky as seen from the altitude at which Uemura operated. The dial, protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside, features a pattern of mountainous terrain on the surface. Limited to only 1,200 units, the SLA049 is worn on the stainless steel bracelet or the bundled silicone strap with the same train track pattern as the original watch.
Similarly manufactured at the high-end Shizukuishi Watch Studio is the second tribute watch: the SLA051. This regular production timepiece is differentiated from its limited edition counterpart by the charcoal grey aesthetics which is more closely aligned with the 1970 original, but with the mountainous terrain pattern on the dial. Same as the SLA049, the SLA051 is powered by the self-winding Caliber 8L35 with 50 hours of power reserve. Both watches are water resistant to the depth of 200 metres and bear the name of Naomi Uemura on the caseback.
