ชื่อรุ่น 5 Sports ของนาฬิกาที่ Seiko เปิดตัวเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1968 นั้นมีความหมายถึง 5 คุณสมบัติสำคัญ ได้แก่ การใช้เครื่องนาฬิกาแบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติ การมีหน้าต่างแสดงค่าวันและวันที่ที่ตำแหน่ง 3 นาฬิกา การมีเม็ดมะยมที่ตำแหน่ง 4 นาฬิกา การมีประสิทธิภาพในการกันน้ำ และ การมีตัวเรือนและสายนาฬิกาที่ทนทาน ทั้งหมดประกอบกันเป็นนาฬิกาที่น่าใช้และเหมาะกับชีวิตประจำวันของคนทั่วไป และเป็นนาฬิกาที่สามารถใส่เล่นกีฬาได้โดยไม่ต้องกังวล ยิ่งเมื่อในภายหลังมีการผลิตหน้าปัดสีต่างๆ ออกมาก็ยิ่งทำให้ Seiko 5 Sports เป็นที่ชื่นชอบของวัยรุ่นในยุคนั้นเข้าไปอีก
ในวันนี้ Seiko จึงขอเลือกเอาสีสันเหล่านั้นกลับมาเอาใจวัยรุ่นในวันนี้บ้าง ตามต่อเนื่องจากการเปิดตัวนาฬิกา Seiko 5 Sports ที่เป็นแบบรีครีเอชั่นเมื่อเดือนกรกฎาคมที่ผ่านมา โดยนาฬิกาที่มีสีสันทั้ง 3 รุ่นนี้มีกำหนดวางตลาดในเดือนกันยายน โดยใช้ตัวเรือนสไตล์ SKX ขนาด 42.5 มม. ซึ่งมีขอบตัวเรือนแบบหมุนได้ทิศทางเดียวและมีบ่าปกป้องเม็ดมะยม หน้าปัดทั้ง 3 สี ได้แก่ หน้าปัดสีเงิน หน้าปัดสีดำขอบสีฟ้าและเขียว และ หน้าปัดสีส้มคาดดำ ซึ่งทั้งหมดนี้เป็นสีที่เคยปรากฏอยู่ในนาฬิกา 5 Sports ช่วงปลายยุคทศวรรษที่ 1960 มาแล้วทั้งสิ้น ทุกรุ่นทำงานด้วยเครื่องนาฬิกาแบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติรุ่นคาลิเบอร์ 4R36 และสวมใส่ด้วยสายสเตนเลสสตีล โดยจะวางจำหน่ายที่บูติคของ Seiko และตัวแทนจำหน่ายบางรายเท่านั้น

It was 55 years ago in 1968 when Seiko premiered the 5 Sports collection that puts five virtues front and centre: an automatic movement, a day and date window at the 3 o’clock position, a crown at the 4 o’clock position, water resistance, and a durable case and bracelet. Together, they represented the kind of practicality and strength that made the watch suitable for sportive activities. Colours were subsequently added, also making the 5 Sports watch a favourite among younger watch buyers.
Some of the colourful livery is being reinstated at this moment. Following the re-creation model that was presented as a limited edition in July, the anniversary celebration continues with three Seiko 5 Sports watches set to hit the market this September. The 42.5 mm case takes the SKX case style where the rotating bezel is unidirectional and the crown is protected by sculpted guards. Their dial comes in either silver, black with a blue and green flange, or orange with a black horizontal strip – all colourways mirror those of the 5 Sports watches from the late 1960s.
All three watches are powered by the self-winding Calibre 4R36, and worn on a three-link stainless steel bracelet. They will be available from the Seiko Boutique and select retail partners.
