Richard Mille RM 27-04 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal เพิ่งเปิดตัวเมื่อปลายเดือนกันยายนที่ผ่านมา และเป็นนาฬิกาที่ราชาคอร์ตดินสวมขณะคว้าชัยในรายการเฟรนช์โอเพ่นเป็นครั้งที่ 13 ในชีวิตและถือเป็นแกรนด์สแลมที่ 20 ของเขาด้วยเมื่อวันอาทิตย์ที่ 11 ตุลาคม
ก่อนหน้านี้ แบรนด์ Richard Mille เคยผลิตนาฬิกาที่มีน้ำหนักเบาแต่มีความทนทานเหลือเชื่อให้กับราฟาเอล นาดาลมาแล้วถึง 8 รุ่น เริ่มตั้งแต่ RM 35 Rafael Nadal เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2010 ซึ่งเป็นนาฬิกาที่เขาใส่ขณะที่ได้แชมป์ยูเอสโอเพ่นเป็นครั้งแรกในชีวิต
นาดาลกล่าวในการสัมภาษณ์ว่า “เวลาผมอยู่ในสนาม ริชาร์ดและผมมีเป้าหมายหนึ่งที่ชัดเจนมาก นั่นคือนาฬิกาทุกเรือนจะต้องมีน้ำหนักเบาเป็นที่สุด และจะต้องรับกับข้อมือของผมเป็นอย่างดี นี่คือสองคุณสมบัติที่จำเป็นมากๆ และทีมงานก็สามารถออกแบบนาฬิกาให้ได้ตรงตามนี้ แล้วยังมีความทนทานอย่างเหลือเชื่อด้วยเพราะว่าเทนนิสเป็นกีฬาที่มีการเคลื่อนไหวแขนและข้อมืออย่างรุนแรง เอาจริงๆ เลยนะ นาฬิกาพวกนี้ใส่ไปตามรายการแข่งเทนนิสต่างๆ ก็มีคนชอบ ผู้เล่นหลายคนถามผมแล้วว่าจะซื้อสักเรือนได้อย่างไร ตั้งแต่ที่ร่วมงานกันมา ผมก็รู้สึกมาตลอดเวลาผมเล่นเทนนิสโดยที่ไม่มีนาฬิกาอยู่บนข้อมือ จัดว่าเป็นความรู้สึกที่พิเศษสุดจริงๆ ทุกวันนี้ใส่นาฬิกาขณะตีเทนนิสเป็นประจำจนขาดไม่ได้แล้วครับ”
สำหรับนาฬิการุ่นที่ 9 ในครั้งนี้ Richard Mille มีไอเดียที่แปลกใหม่ในการนำเครื่องนาฬิกาไขลานแบบสเกเลตั้นไปแขวนไว้บนสายเคเบิ้ลที่ขึงไว้เป็นตาข่ายเหมือนเอ็นแร็คเกตเทนนิส เคเบิ้ลที่เห็นนี้คือสตีลถักเส้นเดียวที่มีขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลาง 0.27 มม. และยาว 569 มม. ช่างนาฬิกาจะต้องเริ่มต้นด้วยกันตรึงต้นเคเบิ้ลไว้กับอุปกรณ์ปรับความตึงที่ตำแหน่ง 5 นาฬิกา จากนั้นจึงขึ้นสายทั้งในแนวตั้งและแนวนอนด้วยการร้อยผ่านด้านบนและด้านล่างของขอบตัวเรือนที่ผลิตจากไทเทเนียมเป็นจำนวน 38 รอบ แล้วจึงไปจบที่อุปกรณ์ปรับความตึงอีกตัวหนึ่งที่ตำแหน่ง 10 นาฬิกา
อีกหนึ่งรายละเอียดทางด้านเทคนิคที่ต้องกล่าวถึงก็คือตัวเรือนซึ่งผลิตจากวัสดุไทเทคาร์บซึ่งเป็นลิขสิทธิ์เฉพาะสำหรับ Richard Mille เท่านั้น วัสดุประสิทธิภาพสูงนี้มีความแข็งแกร่งด้วยส่วนประกอบซึ่งเป็นคาร์บอนไฟเบอร์สูงถึง 38.5% ทำให้ RM 27-04 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal เป็นเรือนเวลาที่ความทนทานแต่มีน้ำหนักเพียง 30 กรัมเท่านั้น (รวมน้ำหนักของสายนาฬิกาแล้ว)

Introduced to the world shortly before the conclusion of this year’s French Open, the Richard Mille RM 27-04 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal is the watch worn by the King of Clay himself as he clinched his 13th Roland Garros title and, in the process, his 20th Grand Slam win on Sunday 11 October.
Richard Mille has previously created eight extremely light and extremely durable watches for Rafael Nadal. This began with the RM 35 Rafael Nadal watch in 2010 – the Spaniard won the US Open for the first time that year, wearing that watch.
“When I’m on court, Richard and I have one very clear aim: to make sure every piece is extremely light and fits my wrist perfectly. These two features are essential, and the teams have been able to provide them, while also creating watches that are amazingly resistant, because tennis can involve very violent arm and wrist movements,” shares Nadal in an interview. “In fact, these watches have their admirers on the tennis circuit, and several players have asked me how they could buy one. Ever since our partnership started, I’ve always had the feeling I’m still playing tennis without a watch on my wrist. It’s pretty unique! Today, wearing them has become part of my sporting routine and I couldn’t do without them.”
For this ninth watch, Richard Mille was inspired to suspend the skeletonised, hand-winding movement on a mesh of cable reminiscent of a tennis racquet. This is in fact a single cable in braided steel, measuring
0.27 mm in diameter and 569 mm in length. The watchmaker starts by anchoring the cable to the tensioner at the five o’clock position. He then weaves the main strings and the cross strings, bringing the cable 38 times above and below the titanium bezel. The process finishes at another tensioner at the 10 o’clock position.
Another technical property to note is the watch case which is made of TitaCarb. A material exclusive to Richard Mille, this high-performance is strengthened by its 38.5% carbon fibre content. The resulting RM 27-04 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal is a highly resistant timepiece that weighs only 30 grams, already including the weight of the strap. This special timepiece also breaks a new record for Richard Mille for being able to resist accelerations of more than 12,000 g’s.
The Richard Mille RM 27-04 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal is a limited edition of 50 units. Its price tag is reportedly USD 1,050,000.
