“สไมล์ลี่” หรือหน้าการ์ตูนที่เป็นวงกลมสีเหลืองหนึ่งวงกับดวงตาสองดวงและรอยยิ้มเป็นผลงานการวาดของแฟรงคลิน ลูฟรานี อดีตนักข่าวชาวฝรั่งเศสผู้ร่วมก่อตั้ง The Smiley Company ที่ต้องการนำเสนอแนวคิดบวกและรอยยิ้มแห่งความหวังนี้ให้กับผู้อ่านหนังสือพิมพ์ฝรั่งเศส France Soir ในปี ค.ศ. 1972 เพราะในช่วงเวลานั้นสังคมมีแต่ความตึงเครียดและข่าวร้ายต่างๆ นานาบนหน้าหนังสือพิมพ์ จากนั้นสไมล์ลี่จึงกลายเป็นที่รู้จักของคนทั่วโลกในฐานะตัวแทนแห่งความคิดบวกในวัฒนธรรมป๊อป

ตัวเรือนด้านบนและด้านล่างของ RM 88 Automatic Tourbillon Smiley ผลิตจากวัสดุเซรามิกเอทีแซดสีขาวซึ่งมีความทนทานต่อการขีดข่วนสูง แถบด้านข้างตัวเรือนผลิตจากเร้ดโกลด์ดูตัดกันอย่างชัดเจน เม็ดมะยมประดับตรารูปสไมล์ลี่ที่ผลิตจากเยลโลว์โกลด์ สวมใส่ด้วยสายสีเหลืองสด ทั้งหมดนี้ทำให้เราได้เห็น Richard Mille ในแง่มุมที่สุดใส แปลกตา ชวนให้นึกถึง Bonbon Collection ที่ Richard Mille เคยทำเมื่อราวปี ค.ศ. 2019 และสะท้อนให้เห็นว่าแบรนด์นาฬิกาแบรนด์นี้ไม่ได้เก่งกาจแค่เรื่องของกลไกท่านั้น แต่ยังมีชั้นเชิงในเรื่องของศิลปะด้วย สำหรับนาฬิกา RM 88 Automatic Tourbillon Smiley รุ่นนี้ก็ผลิตเป็นจำนวนจำกัดเพียงแค่ 50 เรือนเท่านั้น ใครอยากอารมณ์ดี มีพลังงานบวกไปตลอดทั้งวันคงต้องรีบจับจองกันเสียแล้ว

The Smiley, a yellow circle with two oval eyes and a wide upturned mouth, was created by French journalist Franklin Loufrani (who went on to co-found The Smiley Company) to offer his readers a sense of positivity and hope. The year was 1972 and the general atmosphere of strife and tension was reflected in the grim news splashed across the pages of newspapers. Since its initial publication in the French newspaper France Soir, people all over the world have come to know the Smiley as a symbol of positivity and joy.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Smiley, Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille took its original concept and turned it into a limited-edition timepiece embodying positivity, joyfulness and creativity. The highlight of the RM 88 Automatic Tourbillon Smiley is how the watchmaker incorporated joyous decorative elements into the Calibre CRMT7 automatic movement. In addition to the Smiley, the array of miniature gold figurines includes a seven-color rainbow, a radiant sun, a pink flamingo, a cloud, a cactus, a pineapple and a cocktail glass complete with a straw and tiny parasol, all crafted by master engraver Olivier Kuhn.
The bezel and caseback of the timepiece are in highly scratch-resistant ATZ white ceramic, contrasting with the red gold case band, while the crown is decorated with a Smiley sculpted in yellow gold. Equipped with a bright yellow strap, the RM 88 Automatic Tourbillon Smiley represents a delightfully quirky side of Richard Mille. It reminds us of the Bonbon Collection introduced in 2019 and shines the spotlight on the artistic savoir-faire that Richard Mille has in ample supply, in addition to its well-known technical expertise. The RM 88 Automatic Tourbillon Smiley is a limited edition of just 50 pieces.
