Longines เป็นหนึ่งในไม่กี่แบรนด์ในวงการนาฬิกาที่ไม่เพียงจะมอบความคุ้มค่าในระดับสูงเมื่อเทียบกับเงินที่จ่ายไป แต่ยังมีประวัติศาสตร์ที่ยาวนานเป็นรากฐานให้ผลิตภัณฑ์ในวันนี้ได้ใช้ในการก่อร่างสร้างตัวได้เป็นอย่างดี ไม่ว่าจะเป็นนาฬิกาที่ผูกพันอยู่กับเรื่องราวบนท้องฟ้า ในท้องทะเลลึกและบนพื้นดินก็ตาม
Spirit คือชื่อคอลเลคชั่นนาฬิกาที่เปิดตัวเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2020 โดยมีพื้นฐานการออกแบบเป็นเรื่องราวแห่งความมุ่งมั่นและความกล้าหาญของนักผจญภัยยุคบุกเบิกที่ออกไปสำรวจโลกกว้างอย่างไม่เกรงกลัวภยันตราย คุณสมบัติดังกล่าวนี้ไม่ได้มีเพียงแค่ในนักบิน หากแต่ยังพบได้ในนักสำรวจสาขาอื่นๆ ที่ปฏิบัติหน้าที่บนบกและในมหาสมุทรด้วย นาฬิการุ่นแรกในคอลเลคชั่น Spirit เป็นนาฬิกาแบบสามเข็มในรูปแบบพื้นฐาน แต่ในเวลาไม่นาน Longines ก็ออก Spirit Zulu Time ตามออกมาเพื่อเป็นนาฬิกาที่สามารถบอกเวลาใน 2 ประเทศได้พร้อมกัน แล้วจึงมี Spirit Chronograph ที่ใช้จับเวลาได้อย่างแม่นยำ ก่อนที่จะมาถึงการเปิดตัว Spirit Flyback ซึ่งมีกลไกโครโนกราฟแบบฟลายแบ็คในที่สุด
ตลาดนาฬิกาในปัจจุบันนี้มีนาฬิกาโครโนกราฟแบบฟลายแบ็คไม่มากรุ่นนัก และในระดับราคาของ Longines นี้ก็แทบจะไม่มีนาฬิกาฟังก์ชั่นดังกล่าวเลย กลไกโครโนกราฟแบบฟลายแบ็คคือกลไกโครโนกราฟที่เราสามารถกดเริ่มจับเวลาครั้งใหม่ได้ทันทีโดยไม่ต้องกดหยุดการจับเวลาครั้งเดิมและกดรีเซ็ทเข็ม ฟังก์ชั่นนี้เป็นประโยชน์อย่างยิ่งสำหรับนักบินในช่วงเริ่มแรกของการบินซึ่งจะต้องจับเวลาหลายสิ่งและคำนวณค่าหลายอย่างโดยไม่มีอุปกรณ์อิเล็กทรอนิกส์ช่วยอย่างในสมัยนี้ และ Longines ก็พร้อมตอบโจทย์ความต้องการของนักบินตั้งแต่เมื่อ 99 ปีก่อนในปี ค.ศ. 1925 ด้วยการผลิตนาฬิกาโครโนกราฟแบบฟลายแบ็ครุ่นแรกของแบรนด์

Conquest เป็นชื่อของคอลเลคชั่นนาฬิกาที่เปิดตัวเป็นครั้งแรกในปี ค.ศ. 1954 หรือเมื่อ 70 ปีก่อนพอดี เอกลักษณ์ที่สังเกตได้ของคอลเลคชั่นนี้ก็คือตำแหน่งของหน้าต่างวันที่ซึ่งมักจะอยู่ที่ตำแหน่ง 12 นาฬิกาแทนที่จะอยู่ที่ 3 หรือ 6 นาฬิกา และมีอยู่รุ่นหนึ่งในปี ค.ศ. 1959 ซึ่งมีเครื่องหมายบอกกำลังลานสำรองในรูปแบบจานหมุนตรงกลางหน้าปัดที่ไม่เหมือนใครและเป็นวิธีการที่ช่วยรักษาความสมมาตรบนหน้าปัดได้อย่างยอดเยี่ยม และ Longines เลือกนำกลับมาผลิตเป็นรุ่นใหม่ในโอกาสฉลองครบรอบครั้งนี้ในชื่อ Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve

เครื่องนาฬิกาแบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติรุ่นคาลิเบอร์ L896.5 ที่ใช้ในนาฬิการุ่นนี้มีบาลานซ์สปริงผลิตจากซิลิคอนและมีกำลังลานสำรองนาน 72 ชั่วโมง บรรจุอยู่ภายในตัวเรือนสเตนเลสสตีลขนาด 38 มม. ซึ่งมองเห็นได้ผ่านทางฝาหลังแซฟไฟร์คริสตอล ส่วนแซฟไฟร์คริสตอลทางด้านหน้านั้นก็มีรูปทรงแบบยกสูงตามแบบวินเทจ ทั้งยังมีการเคลือบสารป้องกันแสงสะท้อนหลายชั้นเพื่อความชัดเจนสูงสุด Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve รุ่นนี้มีหน้าปัดให้เลือกด้วยกันทั้งหมด 3 แบบ ได้แก่ หน้าแชมเปญกับเข็มและหลักชั่วโมงสีเยลโลว์โกลด์ หน้าสีแอนธราไซท์กับเข็มและหลักชั่วโมงสีโรสโกลด์ และ หน้าสีดำกับเข็มและหลักชั่วโมงสีเงิน ทุกรุ่นดูสง่างามในแบบฉบับของตนเองจึงเป็นอะไรที่เลือกยากอย่างแน่นอน

Longines enjoys a very privileged position in the entire watch industry. Not only do they offer excellent value for money, but they also boast substantial historical heritage upon which their products thrive. This cover story explores some of their latest offerings that span the geographic applications of timepieces, from the heights of the sky to the depths of the ocean and then back to the formality of the boardroom.
The Spirit collection, first introduced in 2020, embodies the stories of resolve and bravery shared by the earliest adventurers who ventured without fear in their quest to make the unknown known. This particular trait is not limited to pilots – it encompasses other explorers who treaded on land and plunged into the oceans as well. After having established the Spirit concept with the three-hand models, Longines gradually enriched the collection with the Spirit Zulu Time model for a dual time zone indication, and the Spirit Chronograph for the precise measurement of elapsed time. The latest addition, the Spirit Flyback offers the prized flyback chronograph functionality.
A flyback chronograph is a rarity in today’s watch market, and virtually unheard of at Longines’ price level. Its unique mechanism allows for a restart of the chronograph function without first stopping and resetting the previous timing. This unique ability was invented during the nascent days of aviation to offer greater convenience to pilots who had several timing and calculation needs as they flew without the aid of modern electronic instruments. Longines was there for them, having introduced their first flyback chronograph watches 99 years ago in 1925.
The Longines Spirit Flyback watch marks a reincarnation of those early ideals. Measuring 42 mm in diameter and 17 mm in thickness, the stainless steel case is topped with a bidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic insert in the same black or blue colour as the sunray dial. Legibility is ensured with Super-LumiNova filled, applied Arabic numerals for all positions except for 9 and 3 o’clock where space is made for the continuous second hand and the 30-minute totaliser, respectively. The Longines logo occupies the space just below the 12 o’clock position, and five stars adorn the spot above the 6 o’clock position per traditional reference to the highest quality standard offered by a timepiece.
Spirit Flyback is water resistant to the depth of 100 metres. It is powered by the COSC-certified, self-winding Calibre L791.4 with 68 hours of power reserve. It is worn on either a matching stainless steel bracelet (either the black or blue dial model), a brown leather strap with a folding clasp (black dial model), a blue fabric strap with a folding clasp (blue dial model) or a beige NATO strap with a buckle (another black dial model).
Adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts who require greater water resistance can always check out the HydroConquest collection. As the name suggests, this line of watches was developed to be particularly worthy of underwater pursuits. Ever since its debut in 2007, it features numerous functional and stylistic varieties; the latest is the HydroConquest GMT, an ideal companion for today’s globetrotters.
While the GMT version of most diver watches can no longer be used for diving due to the replacement of the diving minute scale with a 24-hour scale, this is (fortunately) not true for the HydroConquest GMT. Longines has used care to preserve the original, unidirectional rotating diving bezel that is essential to divers, putting the 24-hour scale on the dial flange instead. Using the arrow-tipped GMT hand, the owner of the HydroConquest GMT can tell time in a second time zone with ease, while maintaining the ability to dive or time other events with the watch.
The Longines HydroConquest GMT watch measures 41 mm in diameter and 12.90 mm in thickness. Its water resistance rating is a formidable 300 metres. The sunray dial comes in four colours of blue or black with silver markers and hands, or brown and green with gilt markers and hands. A stainless steel bracelet option is available for all dial colours, while the blue rubber strap, the black rubber strap, the beige NATO strap or the khaki green NATO strap options are offered to match each of the four dial colours, respectively.
Lastly, when every man returns from his journey to the far ends of the earth, it is time to tend to business affairs – and this is when a dressier Longines watch comes in. For this cover story, our timing perfectly coincides with the brand’s latest release: the Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve watch.
Established exactly 70 years ago in 1954, the Conquest collection features the visible hallmark of the unusual placement of the date window at the 12 o’clock position instead of at 3 or 6 o’clock. For this important anniversary, Longines has deemed it fit to bring back a particularly unique design from 1959 where the said date window is matched by a double-disc power reserve indicator at the centre of the dial. The configuration is heaven-sent for those who treasure dial symmetry.
The power reserve indicator itself is composed of a disc with a slim indicator and a ring with the number of remaining hours in the reserve, and they both move, separately. As power is spent, the inner disc with the indicator advances in a clockwise motion, progressing towards a small figure on the scale. However, when the watch is rewound either by the crown or the rotor, the external ring advances correspondingly in a clockwise motion as well, bringing the scale forward in relation to the indicator. It is unclear how Longines devised this unusual idea in the first place, but it provides watch connoisseurs with more fodder for conversation with fellow enthusiasts.
The self-winding Calibre L896.5 with the silicon balance spring and 72 hours of power reserve is protected inside a 38 mm stainless steel case, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. A box-shaped sapphire crystal completes the vintage look of this timepiece while multi-layer, anti-reflective treatment ensures perfect clarity. Three colourways are offered of the Conquest Heritage Central Power Reserve: a champagne dial with yellow gold-coloured hands and markers, an anthracite dial with rose gold-coloured hands and markers, and a black dial with silver-coloured hands and markers. They are all handsome and elegant in their own way so choosing one will inevitably result in a great dilemma.
As you can see, there is never a dull moment at Longines. Having been established 192 years ago in 1832, this company with the winged hourglass logo has amassed bountiful designs, innovations and success stories that can be distilled into modern-day products one can wear with pride. Give one of their retailers a visit and you will surely be spoilt for choice.
