Hermès Arceau Le temps voyageur คือผลลัพธ์ที่เกิดขึ้นเมื่อแบรนด์ช่างฝันอย่าง Hermès เลือกทำโจทย์การออกแบบนาฬิกาเพื่อการเดินทาง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการแพ็คกระเป๋าแล้วเดินไปขึ้นเครื่องจริงๆ หรือว่าจะเป็นแค่การนั่งจินตนาการอยู่บนโซฟาที่บ้านก็ตาม
ผลงานที่เปิดตัวภายในงาน Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 รุ่นนี้มีคุณสมบัติพิเศษอยู่ที่การบอกเวลาใน 2 เมืองพร้อมกันตลอดเวลา โดยโฮมไทม์ด้วยจานหมุนในหน้าต่างบริเวณ 12 นาฬิกา และบอกเวลาโลคอลไทม์ด้วยหน้าปัดเล็กที่สามารถเปลี่ยนตำแหน่งไปได้เรื่อยๆ ขึ้นอยู่กับว่าคุณจะเดินทางไปที่ใดในโลก
Arceau Le temps voyageur มีปุ่มกดด้านข้างตัวเรือนบริเวณ 9 นาฬิกา เมื่อกดปุ่มนี้หนึ่งครั้ง หน้าปัดเล็กจะเคลื่อนไปข้างหน้าเป็นมุม 15 องศาเพื่อให้ตรงกับตำแหน่งชื่อเมืองถัดไป ในจังหวะเดียวกันนี้เอง เข็มชั่วโมงก็จะเดินหน้าไป 1 ชั่วโมงทันทีด้วยโดยที่เข็มนาทีจะยังคงทำงานต่อไปตามปกติ คุณเพียงต้องกดปุ่มด้านข้างตัวเรือนนี้ตามจำนวนครั้งเท่าที่จำเป็นสำหรับการเคลื่อนหน้าปัดเล็กไปให้ตรงกับเมืองใหม่ที่คุณต้องการแล้วเวลาที่แสดงอยู่บนหน้าปัดนั้นก็จะตรงกับโลคอลไทม์โดยปริยาย
Hermès เรียกฟังก์ชั่นนี้ว่าแทรเวลลิ่งไทม์ เพราะว่ามันมีอะไรมากกว่าจีเอ็มทีปกติที่ไม่สนใจเรื่องชื่อเมือง แต่ก็ไม่ถึงกับเป็นเวิลด์ไทม์เพราะว่าไม่ได้บอกเวลาทั้ง 24 ไทม์โซนในโลกพร้อมกันตลอดเวลา การออกแบบอย่างนี้ของ Hermès ก็ถือว่าตอบโจทย์ความต้องการของนักเดินทางตัวจริงมากๆ แล้ว เพราะว่าคนส่วนมากไม่ได้ต้องการรู้เวลาใน 24 ไทม์โซนพร้อมกัน ถ้าเราเดินทาง เราก็อยากรู้เพียงแค่โลคอลไทม์และโฮมไทม์เป็นหลัก และถ้าเราเดินทางไปหลายประเทศในทริปเดียวกัน เราก็ต้องการความสามารถในการเปลี่ยนไทม์โซนของนาฬิกาได้โดยไม่ต้องหยุดเข็มนาฬิกา หรือถ้าเปลี่ยนได้โดยไม่ต้องยุ่งกับเม็ดมะยมด้วยก็ยิ่งเพิ่มความสบายใจไปอีกระดับ
เราแอบคิดในใจมาตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 2019 ที่ Hermès ผลิตนาฬิกา Arceau L’heure de la lune ให้มีหน้าปัดเล็กจำนวน 2 หน้าปัดหมุนโคจรไปมาเหมือนดาวเทียมอยู่บนหน้าปัดใหญ่ ในเวลานั้นเราคิดว่าถ้า Hermès เอาหน้าปัดที่สองซึ่งใช้แสดงค่าวันที่มาใส่เข็มชั่วโมงและเข็มนาทีสำหรับประเทศที่สองแทนจะเป็นอย่างไร แต่ก็คิดต่อไปอีกว่าหากหน้าปัดทั้งคู่นั้นหมุนไปมาอย่างไม่มีจุดหมายก็คงจะไม่เกิดประโยชน์อะไร โชคดีที่ทีมของ Hermès และบริษัทผู้พัฒนากลไกพิเศษ Chronode หาวิธีการนำคอนเซปท์หน้าปัดโคจรมาดัดแปลงได้อย่างลงตัวโดยให้ทำหน้าที่ชี้ไปยังชื่อเมืองในแบบของ Arceau Le temps voyageur รุ่นนี้เสียเลย
จบเรื่องกลไกไปแล้ว มาต่อที่รายละเอียดน่ารักๆ ตามแบบฉบับของนาฬิกา Hermès กันบ้าง ขอเริ่มที่วงแหวนชื่อเมืองก็แล้วกัน เพราะในขณะที่นาฬิกาสไตล์นี้ส่วนมากจะเลือกใช้ชื่อเมืองที่มีความสำคัญทางธุรกิจเป็นหลัก แต่ Hermès อยากให้คุณคิดถึงเรื่องเที่ยวมากกว่า จึงใช้ชื่อเมืองท่องเที่ยวมาเป็นตัวแทนของหลายไทม์โซน เช่น นูเมอา ตาฮิติ อะโซร์สและซามาร์คานด์ สำหรับปารีสนั้น Hermès ใช้ชื่อ “24 FBG” กำกับเพื่อสื่อถึงอาคารเลขที่ 24 บนถนนเฟาบูร์กแซงต์ตอนอเรอันเป็นที่ตั้งของบูติคดั้งเดิมของแบรนด์ และยังมีรายละเอียดที่ซ่อนอยู่อีกนั้นก็คือสัญลักษณ์ตัว S ตัว V ตัว K หรือตัว E ที่ห้อยท้ายตามหลังชื่อเมืองบางชื่อเพื่อบ่งบอกถึงซัมเมอร์ไทม์ของเมืองเหล่านั้นในภาษาท้องถิ่น กล่าวคือ ตัว S แทน “Summer” ของเมืองต่างๆ ในสหรัฐอเมริกา ลอนดอน ซิดนีย์และอ็อกแลนด์ ตัว V แทน “Verano” สำหรับเมืองที่พูดภาษาสเปน ส่วนเอเธนส์นั้นเป็นตัว K ที่ย่อมาจาก “Kalokairi” และ 24 FBG ใช้ตัว E แทน “Été”
และถ้าคุณรู้สึกว่าแผนที่โลกมันดูแปลกๆ นั่นก็เป็นเพราะว่ามันไม่ใช่แผนที่โลกจริง แต่เป็นแผนที่โลกในจินตนาการ ลวดลายดังกล่าวถอดแบบมาจากผ้าพันคอของ Hermès ที่มีชื่อว่า Planisphere d’un monde équestre ทวีปแต่ละทวีปมีชื่อที่เกี่ยวข้องกับกีฬาขี่ม้า ก่อนหน้าที่จะเป็นผ้าพันคอก็เคยใช้สร้างเป็นพร็อพลูกโลกตกแต่งบรรยากาศภายในการแข่งขันขี่ม้ากระโดดข้ามเครื่องกีดขวาง Saut Hermès เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2016 ที่ Grand Palais กรุงปารีส ถือว่าเข้าท่าที่สุดจริงๆ สำหรับแบรนด์ที่มีจุดกำเนิดจากการผลิตอานม้ามาก่อน
ขณะนี้ Arceau Le temps voyageur มีออกมาแล้วใน 2 รูปแบบ คือ รุ่นหน้าปัดสีดำซึ่งมีตัวเรือนแพลทตินัมขนาด 41 มม. และขอบตัวเรือนไทเทเนียมเกรด 5 เคลือบดีแอลซีสีดำด้านผิวพ่นทรายทั้งตัวเรือนและขอบตัวเรือน และรุ่นหน้าปัดสีน้ำเงินในตัวเรือนสเตนเลสสตีลขนาด 38 มม. ทั้ง 2 รุ่นมีสายหนังจระเข้และหนังลูกวัวให้เลือกสวมใส่ตามความชอบ

When dreamers design a new watch for the physical and wishful crossing of borders, they let their imaginations run free – and the result is the Hermès Arceau Le temps voyageur. This Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 novelty is developed to indicate time in two selected cities on a simultaneous basis. The time in your home city is shown by the disc at the top of the dial. A floating dial with two hands displays the time in your current city.
Things get more interesting as you take another flight or otherwise move yourself to another place on earth. By one push of the button on the side of the case around the 9 o’clock position, the floating dial will rotate by 15 degrees to align with the next city name and the hour hand will snap forward by one hour. The minute hand remains unaffected throughout this process. You only need to press this button the needed number of times to bring the floating dial to your new city and voila, your new local time is set.
In Hermès terminology, this is called the travelling time complication. It reflects a heightened form of GMT if you will, as a typical GMT does not work with city names. However, it is not a world time complication either because in that case, the time in all 24 zones would be shown all together on a permanent basis.
With the current set up of Arceau Le temps voyageur, Hermès offers exactly what true travellers need. Not everyone needs to know what time it is in 24 cities at the same moment. Most people will only need to know local time and home time. And for those who make a stop at multiple cities during a journey, the ability to change time zones without having to use the crown or stop the watch is a true blessing.
We at World of Watches Thailand have been wondering, since 2019, how Hermès would further adapt the satellite dial mechanism originally designed for the Arceau L’heure de la lune of that year. They could have easily replaced the date indication on the secondary dial of that watch with another set of hour hands for a second time zone, but then the rotation around the dial would have been without a purpose. Fortunately for the watch community, the brilliant people at Hermès and movement specialist Chronode have arrived at the most practical adaptation of that satellite concept, that is, for the floating dial to point to a city name.
Moreover, it is not all about hard facts with this watch. Being a Hermès timepiece, one can be sure to find whimsical details if they look closely. Let’s begin with the city ring. Typically, the city names chosen by the watch brands are those with business implications. But it is clear that Hermès wants you to focus more on exotic vacation spots so they decided upon such destinations as Noumea, Tahiti, Azores and Samarkand. For Paris, the maison chose to be very personal by designating the time zone as “24 FBG” in reference to their historic store at 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. For the final touch, for cities where summertime is observed, their indications are marked in the language used in that city. We can see an “S” for “Summer” for the American cities plus London, Sydney and Auckland. Spanish-speaking cities boast a “V” for “Verano”. Athens has a “K” for “Kalokairi” and 24 FBG sports an “E” for “Été”.
And if you sense that the world map looks a bit peculiar, you are absolutely right. That is not a true world map but a fantasy one taken from the maison’s Planisphere d’un monde équestre silk scarf. The design with equestrian-linked continents was originally conceived by their graphic designer as a giant globe to decorate the 2016 edition of the Saut Hermès showjumping competition at the Grand Palais in Paris. It is a suitable tribute indeed, for a brand whose origin lies in the expertise of saddlery.
Two versions of the Arceau Le temps voyageur watch are produced at this time. The black dial option features a 41 mm platinum case and grade 5 titanium bezel beneath the bead-blasted matte black DLC treatment. The blue dial one comes in a 38 mm stainless steel case. Alligator and calfskin straps are available for both references.
