Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi บ้านหลังใหม่แห่งการผลิตนาฬิกาจักรกลในสไตล์ญี่ปุ่นแท้ๆ

เราจะเห็นข่าวสารต่างๆ จาก Grand Seiko มากเป็นพิเศษในปีนี้ เพราะว่าเป็นปีสำคัญแห่งการครบรอบ 60 ปี ซึ่งตามธรรมเนียมญี่ปุ่นเขาว่าต้องฉลองใหญ่ ถึงขั้นมีชื่อเรียกกันเลยว่า “คังเรกิ” โดยคำว่า “คัง” นั้นหมายถึง “การตีกลับ” และ “เรกิ” หมายถึง “ปฏิทิน” รวมแล้วหมายถึงการขึ้นรอบปฏิทินใหม่ ซึ่งปฏิทินที่ว่านี้คือนักษัตรรอบใหญ่ 12 ปี คูณ 5 รอบตามธาตุต่างๆ คือ ไม้ ไฟ ดิน ทองและน้ำ ใครก็ตามที่เดินทางผ่านเวลา 60 ปีนี้ได้ก็เท่ากับว่าย้อนกลับมาถึงจุดเริ่มต้นหรือเป็นการเกิดใหม่อีกครั้งนั่นเอง
Grand Seiko เปิดปีด้วยการเผยโฉมเครื่องนาฬิกาไฮบีทรุ่นคาลิเบอร์ 9SA5 ใหม่ที่มีขนาดบางลงกว่าเดิม แต่มีกำลังลานสำรองนานขึ้นเป็น 80 ชั่วโมงในเดือนมีนาคม แล้วตามต่อเนื่องในเดือนมิถุนายนด้วยการเปิดบูติคสุดหรูที่ปลาซวองโดมของปารีส จากนั้นจึงค่อยประกาศข่าวใหญ่เรื่องต่อไป นั่นก็คือการเปิดใช้สตูดิโอประกอบนาฬิกาจักรกล Grand Seiko แห่งใหม่ที่มีชื่ออย่างเป็นทางการว่า Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi ภายในอาณาบริเวณของ Morioka Seiko Instruments ซึ่งดำเนินกิจการที่นี่มาตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1970
เดิมทีสตูดิโอแห่งนี้กินพื้นที่ชั้นหนึ่งภายในอาคารโรงงานที่อยู่ในรั้วเดียวกันนี้เอง แต่เวลานี้แยกออกมาสร้างเป็นสตูดิโอแบบสแตนด์อโลนเพื่อรองรับการเติบโตในอนาคต คุณชินจิ ฮัตโตริประธานและซีอีโอ Seiko Watch Corporation กล่าวในโอกาสอันเป็นมงคลนี้ว่า “สตูดิโอนี้มอบสภาพแวดล้อมที่เหมาะสมสำหรับการทำงานสำหรับช่างทั้งชายและหญิงของเราในการเนรมิตชีวิตให้กับเรือนเวลาจักรกลของ Grand Seiko และที่แห่งนี้ยังจะใช้เพื่อการฝึกสอนช่างนาฬิการุ่นใหม่ในอนาคต ให้เขาได้ฟูมฟักทักษะได้ด้วย ทั้งหมดนี้ภายใต้ปรัชญา The Nature of Time ของ Grand Seiko และสตูดิโอแห่งนี้ยังเป็นเครื่องพิสูจน์ให้โลกได้เห็นอีกด้วยว่าเรานั้นทุ่มเทให้กับศิลปะแห่งการประดิษฐ์นาฬิกาจักรกลมากเพียงใด”
นาฬิการุ่นแรกที่ออกจากสตูดิโอแห่งนี้ก็คือ Grand Seiko 60th Anniversary Limited Edition SLGH002 ซึ่งเป็นลิมิเต็ดเอดิชั่นจำนวน 100 เรือน สตูดิโอแห่งนี้มีพื้นที่ใช้สอยรวม 2,244 ตารางเมตรสำหรับกระบวนการผลิตตั้งแต่การประกอบนาฬิกาไปจนถึงการทดสอบการกันน้ำและการติดตั้งสายนาฬิกา ห้องที่สำคัญที่สุดก็คือห้องคลีนรูมที่กว้างขวางและมีโครงสร้างเหมือนเป็นหลังคา เมื่อมองออกไปเห็นวิวทิวทัศน์ของเมืองชิซูกุอิชิและภูเขาอิวาเตะอันเป็นแรงบันดาลใจเบื้องหลังนาฬิกาหลายรุ่นของ Grand Seiko
สถาปนิกชื่อดังเคนโกะ คุมะ ผู้ออกแบบสตูดิโอแห่งนี้ กล่าวว่า “หากเมื่อใดที่ผมออกแบบโครงสร้างจากไม้ ผมก็จะเน้นเรื่องของจังหวะที่เกิดจากวัสดุที่เป็นไม้นั้นพอๆ กับพื้นผิวของมัน อย่างที่สตูดิโอแห่งนี้ จังหวะของเสาต่างๆ และระดับชั้นของการประสานไม้แบบดั้งเดิมที่เรียกว่ายามาโตบาริประกอบกันเป็นหนึ่งได้อย่างลงตัวและกลมเกลียว”
“ความสำคัญที่ Grand Seiko มีให้กับธรรมชาตินั้นสะท้อนอยู่ในทุกมุมของการออกแบบและการก่อสร้างสตูดิโอแห่งนี้ ผมรู้สึกเพลิดเพลินเป็นพิเศษกับการทำโจทย์ยากในการออกแบบคลีนรูมที่จะใช้ประกอบนาฬิกาความเที่ยงตรงสูงด้วยไม้ สมดุลที่เกิดจากวัสดุธรรมชาติและข้อกำหนดทางด้านเทคนิคที่เปี่ยมด้วยความไฮเทคของห้องนี้เป็นความท้าทายใหม่ที่น่าสนใจจริงๆ ครับ”
วันหนึ่งเมื่อโควิดจบแล้วและเราไปเที่ยวญี่ปุ่นได้อีกครั้ง สตูดิโอแห่งนี้ก็พร้อมเปิดรับแขกผู้มาเยือนจากประเทศต่างๆ ทั่วโลก ซึ่งตรงจุดนี้ทาง Grand Seiko ประกาศไว้ชัดเจนเป็นนโยบายเลย ไม่เพียงเท่านั้น ตัวสตูดิโอยังได้รับการออกแบบในลักษณะที่พร้อมให้ความรู้แก่ผู้มาเยือนอย่างเต็มที่ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเรื่องของขั้นตอนต่างๆ ในกระบวนการผลิตนาฬิกา ทักษะและความละเอียดอ่อนที่ต้องใช้กว่าจะมาเป็น Grand Seiko แต่ละเรือน และยังเปิดโอกาสให้เฝ้าสังเกตการทำงานของช่างผ่านแนวกระจกได้โดยไม่รบกวนการทำงานแต่อย่างใด หรือใครอยากจะลองประกอบนาฬิกาจักรกลเองบ้าง ทางสตูดิโอก็มีห้องสัมมนาเตรียมไว้เพื่อการนี้โดยเฉพาะ
ครั้นเมื่อเดินชมทุกโซนจนครบแล้วก็มานั่งพักผ่อนที่เลาจ์บนชั้นสองได้ เพราะตามที่ Grand Seiko บอกคือจากตรงนี้จะเห็นวิวภูเขาอิวาเตะเต็มๆ ภายในเลาจ์นี้มีการจัดแสดงเครื่องต้นแบบของเครื่องรุ่น T0 ที่เป็นระบบคอนสแตนท์ฟอร์ซและตูร์บิยองด้วย และหากใครต้องการของที่ระลึกกลับบ้านก็สามารถเลือกซื้อนาฬิการุ่น Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi Hi-beat 36000 SBGH283 ซึ่งมีขายที่นี่เท่านั้น หน้าปัดเป็นสีเขียวเข้มเหมือนกับธรรมชาติโดยรอบโรงงานซึ่งมีต้นไม้เกือบ 1,000 ต้นในพื้นที่ราวหนึ่งในสามของพื้นที่โรงงานทั้งหมด

Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi is the new and inspiring home for the brand’s mechanical watches production.

Grand Seiko shared several important news items this year. Traditionally, the 60th anniversary marks a very important milestone in Japanese culture. There is a word for it, kanreki, literally “kan” for “return” and “reki” for “calendar”. This refers to the fact that there are 12 signs in the zodiac calendar system, plus five possible elements for each cycle (i.e., wood, fire, earth, metal and water). Having completed the 12-year cycle five times means one has gone through this big 60-year cycle, arriving at a new beginning … a renewal.
After the announcements of the slimmer, high-beat Calibre 9SA5 with an 80-hour power reserve in March, and the unveiling of the majestic Grand Seiko Paris boutique at Place Vendôme in June, Grand Seiko followed with their next major news: the opening of the new Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi. Previously, the studio used to assemble mechanical Grand Seiko watches, occupying one floor of a manufacture building at this site, used by Morioka Seiko Instruments Inc., since 1970. Now it has been rebuilt as a standalone structure of its own.
Speaking on this auspicious collection, Shinji Hattori, the Chairman and CEO of Seiko Watch Corporation, says, “The studio provides the ideal environment for our craftsmen and women to bring Grand Seiko’s mechanical watches to life and for the next generation of watchmakers to be trained and their skills developed. It embodies Grand Seiko’s philosophy, The Nature of Time, and is clear evidence to the world of our dedication to the art of mechanical watchmaking.”
The first new creation at this studio is the Grand Seiko 60th Anniversary Limited Edition SLGH002 of 100 pieces. With a floor area of 2,244 square metres, the facility serves the entire production process, from assembly to water resistance test and band fitting. At the heart of the studio, a wide and spacious clean room features a roof-life architecture and panoramic view of Shizukuishi and Mount Iwate – the mountain behind many inspirations of Grand Seiko.
“When designing wooden construction, I like to emphasize the rhythm created by the wooden material just as much as its texture. With this studio, the pillars’ rhythm and the traditional Yamatobari layers of the wood come together as one in perfect harmony,” shares renowned architect and studio designer Kengo Kuma.
“Grand Seiko’s view of the importance of nature is reflected in every corner of its design and construction. I greatly enjoyed the challenge of making the clean room, where watches of the highest precision are assembled, from wood. To balance natural materials with the room’s high technology technical requirements was a new and intriguing task.”
The health crisis will not be over any time soon. But once it is, the new studio will gladly welcome visitors with prior appointments – this is made clear by the company. The place is designed in such a way to help people become more familiar with the steps, skills and subtlety involved in the production of Grand Seiko watches. Enthusiastic watch lovers will be able to observe the watchmakers at work through the glass panels without interrupting them. The studio even prepares for you to try assembling a mechanical watch yourself in a dedicated seminar room.
To end the free tour, one relaxes at the lounge on the second floor, also looking out to Mount Iwate. It is here that the prototype of the T0 constant force and tourbillon movement is on display.
