แกะกล่องนาฬิกา Grand Seiko สองรุ่นสองอารมณ์ที่ต่างมีเรื่องราวอยู่บนผิวหน้าปัดเหมือนกัน

ช่วงหลังนี้นาฬิกา Grand Seiko ออกมาหลายรุ่นจนเราไล่ตามถ่ายไม่ทันเหมือนกัน ล่าสุดเราได้สัมผัส Grand Seiko ที่เราสนใจเป็นพิเศษ 2 รุ่นด้วยกัน รุ่นแรกคือ Grand Seiko Sport Collection Spring Drive SBGA481 ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในนาฬิกาเพียงไม่กี่รุ่นของ Grand Seiko ในเวลานี้ที่ได้ใช้ตัวเรือนดีไซน์ใหม่หรือที่เรียกว่า Lion Case ซึ่งมีเหลี่ยมมุมคมคายรอบทิศ และเป็นพื้นที่ให้ช่างของ Grand Seiko ได้อวดฝีมือการขัดแต่งตัวเรือนด้วยเทคนิคซารัตสึสลับกับการขัดด้านเป็นเส้นตรงได้อย่างเต็มที่ โดยตัวเรือนขนาด 44.5 มม. ของ SBGA481 รุ่นนี้ผลิตจากไทเทเนียมและสามารถกันน้ำได้ถึงระดับความลึก 200 เมตรจึงจัดอยู่ในข่ายเรือนเวลาที่ทนทานหายห่วงแล้วหนึ่ง
สิงโตเป็นดั่งสัญลักษณ์ประจำแบรนด์ Grand Seiko เพราะว่าปรากฏอยู่บนฝาหลังของนาฬิกาในไลน์พิเศษนี้มาตั้งแต่แรกเริ่ม และในครั้งนี้ Grand Seiko ยังใช้แรงบันดาลใจดังกล่าวมาออกแบบเป็นลวดลายขนสิงโตที่ไม่เหมือนใครบนหน้าปัดสีนวลนี้ด้วย จนเกิดเป็นชื่อเล่น Tokyo Lion ของนาฬิการุ่นนี้ เข็มบอกเวลาและหลักชั่วโมงมีเหลี่ยมมุมที่สะท้อนเส้นสายภายนอกของตัวเรือน แล้วยังเพิ่มความสปอร์ตด้วยขอบตัวเรือนสีดำที่มีตัวเลขนาทีสีขาว
หากดูจากสเปคของ Grand Seiko ความหนาของตัวเรือนจะอยู่ที่ 14.3 มม. ซึ่งอาจทำให้บางคนกังวลว่าจะหนาไปหรือไม่ แต่เมื่อดูทางด้านข้างจะเห็นได้ว่าตัวเรือนสไตล์สปอร์ตของนาฬิการุ่นนี้ได้รับการออกแบบให้ทำมุมรับกับข้อมือได้เป็นอย่างดี และมีสัดส่วนที่เหมาะสมกับขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลาง 44.5 มม. และขนาดของสายด้านที่ชิดกับตัวเรือนซึ่งมีความกว้าง 23 มม.

จากนี้เราไปต่อกันอย่างรวดเร็วทันใจเลยกับ Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT Triple Time Zone SBGE295 นาฬิกาที่ตอบโจทย์นักเดินทางด้วยฟังก์ชั่นจีเอ็มทีครับ SBGE295 รุ่นนี้มีหน้าปัดสีเขียวสวย หน้าปัดออกแบบตามธีม Nature of Time ของ Grand Seiko ซึ่งได้รับแรงบันดาลใจมาจากสิ่งที่อยู่ในธรรมชาติ อย่างในกรณีนี้ก็คือลวดลายจากหน้าผาบนภูเขาโฮตากะแห่งเมืองนากาโนะ ซึ่งภูเขาลูกนี้อยู่ไม่ไกลจาก Shinshu Watch Studio อันเป็นสถานที่ผลิตนาฬิกา Grand Seiko รุ่นสปริงไดรฟ์ทั้งหมด และสาเหตุที่ Grand Seiko เลือกใช้สีเขียวก็เพื่อสื่อถึงช่วงฤดูร้อนของพื้นที่ป่าบนภูเขานั้นเอง
ฟังก์ชั่นจีเอ็มทีของนาฬิการุ่นนี้ทำให้เราดูเวลาในประเทศที่สองได้โดยสะดวกจากเข็มชั่วโมงหัวลูกศรซึ่งจะเดินครบหนึ่งรอบหน้าปัดในเวลา 24 ชั่วโมง อ่านควบคู่กับสเกล 24 ชั่วโมงที่นาฬิการุ่นนี้ให้มาถึงสองชั้น ชั้นหนึ่งบนขอบหน้าปัดและอีกชั้นหนึ่งบนขอบตัวเรือนแบบหมุนได้ อีกหนึ่งรายละเอียดที่น่าสังเกตก็คือการแบ่งครึ่งขอบตัวเรือนเป็นสีเขียวเหมือนหน้าปัดสำหรับช่วงเวลากลางคืน และอีกครึ่งหนึ่งเป็นสีขาวสำหรับช่วงเวลากลางวัน
บานพับของนาฬิการุ่นนี้มีช่องสำหรับการปรับระดับความยาวของสายโดยละเอียดเพื่อความพอดีสูงสุด แต่เป็นการปรับแบบต้องใช้อุปกรณ์ ไม่มีระบบปรับความยาวสายระหว่างวันอยู่ข้างในเหมือนรุ่น Tokyo Lion บานพับของรุ่นนี้จึงบางกว่า แต่ในเรื่องความปลอดภัยนั้นก็ไม่ได้ด้อยแต่อย่างใดเพราะว่าการจะเปิดบานพับได้นั้นก็ต้องกดปุ่มทางด้านซ้ายและขวาพร้อมกันเหมือนกัน
นาฬิกา SBGE295 รุ่นนี้ทำงานด้วยเครื่องนาฬิกาแบบสปริงไดรฟ์รุ่นคาลิเบอร์ 9R66 ซึ่งมีความเที่ยงตรงอยู่ในเกณฑ์บวกหรือลบ 1 วินาทีต่อวัน หรือบวกลบ 15 วินาทีต่อเดือน กำลังลานสำรองอยู่ที่ 72 ชั่วโมงหรือ 3 วัน กล่าวคือเป็นเครื่องตระกูล 9R เหมือนกับรุ่น Tokyo Lion แต่เพิ่มเติมเข็มจีเอ็มทีเข้ามาเป็นฟังก์ชั่นพิเศษ SBGE295 มีตัวเรือนขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลาง 44 มม. ความกว้างสาย 21 มม. กันน้ำได้ลึก 200 เมตร โดยรวมถือเป็นนาฬิกาที่ตอบโจทย์ของนักเดินทางได้เป็นอย่างดี หรือถึงไม่เดินทางก็สามารถใช้ประโยชน์จากฟังก์ชั่นจีเอ็มทีได้ด้วยการตั้งเข็ม 24 ชั่วโมงให้เป็นเวลาของอีกประเทศหนึ่งที่คุณต้องติดต่อด้วยบ่อยๆ

Grand Seiko has been very active lately with a succession of new models. We managed to secure two examples for filming. The first one is Grand Seiko Sport Collection Spring Drive SBGA481 – one of the few Grand Seiko models at this time to use the new Lion Case design with sharp lines all around. The various surfaces of its 44.5 mm titanium case provide the brand’s technicians the space they need to exercise their polishing prowess. Water resistance rating is an ample 200 meters so you can be sure that the watch is ready for some adventures.
The lion has always been a symbol of Grand Seiko. It has appeared on the caseback of this special line of timepieces from the very beginning. For this watch, Grand Seiko was inspired by the lion’s coat whose natural aesthetics provides the pattern for the off-white dial, hence the nickname Tokyo Lion. Beveled hands and hour markers echo the angularity of the case while a black bezel with white numerals add to the sportiness of the watch.
On paper, the thickness can be intimidating at 14.3 mm. You should not be too concerned about it though because the sportive case was designed to curve a little bit downward to better wrap around the wrist. Balancing things out nicely are the 44.5 mm diameter of the case and the 23 mm width of the lug-end of the bracelet.
The clasp of the SBGA481 offers maximum security. One needs to lift up the tab and press both buttons on the left and the right in order to unfold the clasp. What’s more? With the tab pointing upward, one can pull at the extender to increase wrist comfort during the day. The extender can simply be flushed back in when it is no longer needed. Grand Seiko SBGA481 is equipped with the Spring Drive Caliber 9R65 with an accuracy within the range of +/- 1 second per day. Its power reserve is 72 hours or three days.
The second watch model we had the opportunity to unbox is the Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT Triple Time Zone SBGE295. Intended for travelers, this GMT watch showcases a beautiful green dial that was designed with the Nature of Time concept of Grand Seiko. The inspiration for the dial pattern is the cliff faces of the Hotaka Mountains that stand to the northwest of the Shinshu Watch Studio where all of Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive watches are made. Its green color signifies the short summer period enjoyed by the ridge itself.
The GMT function allows for simultaneous reading of time in two countries. The arrow-tipped hour completes one revolution around the dial in 24 hours. It is to be read against the 24-hour scale on either the dial flange or the rotating bezel. On the latter, the insert is split into two parts with night hours in green and day hours in white.
There is a fine adjustment on the clasp of this watch for the best fit. However, it will require the use of a tool. You cannot adjust the length of the bracelet during the day like you can on the Tokyo Lion model. The clasp on the Green Iwao is thinner by comparison, but it is not less secure in terms of safety as the side buttons must be pressed simultaneously in order to release the catch.
Grand Seiko SBGE295 is equipped with the Spring Drive Caliber 9R66 with an accuracy within the range of +/- 1 second per day or +/- 15 seconds per month. The power reserve is the same 72 hours or three days as the movement of the Tokyo Lion. This movement comes from the same 9R family, but with the GMT function added. With a diameter of 44 mm, the bracelet width of 21 mm and the water resistance rating of 200 meters, the SBGE295 is an ideal companion for travelers. The GMT hand can be set to the time of a country you are frequently in touch with when you are not traveling.
