เราเฝ้าดูการเติบโตของคอลเลคชั่น Laureato ด้วยความสนใจมาโดยตลอดตั้งแต่ที่ Girard-Perregaux นำนาฬิการุ่นนี้กลับมาผลิตอีกครั้งในปี ค.ศ. 2016 เนื่องในวาระครบรอบ 225 ปีของแบรนด์ ภายในเวลาไม่ถึงทศวรรษเราก็ได้เห็นเรือนเวลาสไตล์สปอร์ตแบบอินทีเกรทเบรซเลทระดับลักชัวรีที่น่าสนใจในวัสดุต่างๆ อาทิ สเตนเลสสตีล ทอง เซรามิก ไทเทเนียมเคลือบสีดำด้วยกระบวนการพีวีดี คาร์บอนและแม้แต่แซฟไฟร์ แต่ว่าที่ผ่านมานั้นยังไม่เคยมีนาฬิกา Laureato ตัวเรือนและสายไทเทเนียมในรูปแบบปกติที่เห็นเป็นสีเทา … จนกระทั่งวันนี้
Girard-Perregaux ออกนาฬิกา Laureato Chronograph Ti49 ใหม่ออกมาเติมเต็มช่องว่างที่เรามองไม่เห็นมาก่อน ก่อนหน้านี้ GP มีการเปิดตัวนาฬิกา Laureato Absolute ตัวเรือนไทเทเนียมเคลือบสีดำด้วยกระบวนการพีวีดีมาแล้ว 2-3 รุ่น แต่ว่ารุ่นที่เป็นไทเทเนียมสีเทาตรงๆ นั้นไม่เคยมีมาก่อนเลยทั้งในไลน์ Absolute ที่เป็นดีไซน์สายตรอง และไลน์ Laureato แบบคลาสสิก ดังนั้น Laureato Chronograph Ti49 นี้จึงเป็นรุ่นแรกจริงๆ โดยตัวเลข 49 ในชื่อรุ่นนั้นอ้างอิงถึงอายุ 49 ปีของ Laureato ที่ถือกำเนิดขึ้นมาในโลกนี้ในปี ค.ศ. 1975
ตัวเรือนขนาด 42 มม. และสายของนาฬิการุ่นนี้ผลิตจากไทเทเนียมเกรด 5 ซึ่งเป็นเกรดที่มีราคาสูงกว่าไทเทเนียมทั่วไป อัลลอยชนิดนี้มีการใช้งานในอุตสาหกรรมหลากหลายประเภทตั้งแต่การแพทย์ไปจนถึงการบิน และยังเหมาะสมกับการใช้ผลิตนาฬิกาเป็นอย่างยิ่งเนื่องจากทนทานต่อการกัดกร่อน ก่อให้เกิดความระคายเคืองต่อผิวหนังต่ำ มีน้ำหนักเบา และสามารถขัดแต่งให้เงางามได้ยิ่งกว่าไทเทเนียมเกรดที่มีราคาถูกกว่า งานนี้ Girard-Perregaux เลือกจับคู่ไทเทเนียมกับหน้าปัดลายคลูส์เดอปารีส์สีเทาที่มีวงเคาน์เตอร์ลายสเนล เข็มชั่วโมงและเข็มนาทีเคลือบสีทำด้วยกระบวนการพีวีดี และหลักชั่วโมงสีเดียวกัน เรือนเวลาโทนโมโนโครมกันน้ำ 100 เมตรรุ่นนี้ทำงานด้วยเครื่องอินเฮ้าส์แบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติรุ่นคาลิเบอร์ GP03300 ซึ่งมีกำลังลานสำรอง 46 ชั่วโมง
มาถึงจุดนี้แล้วก็ขอเล่าเรื่องประวัติศาสตร์ที่น่าสนใจเสียหน่อยแล้วกัน เป็นเรื่องสองเรื่องที่เดิมไม่มีอะไรเกี่ยวกันแม้แต่น้อย จนกระทั่งมีนาฬิการุ่นนี้ออกมา เรื่องแรกคือไทเทเนียมนั้นเป็นวัสดุที่ค้นพบที่หุบเขามาแนคคันแห่งเมืองคอร์นวอลล์ ประเทศอังกฤษ โดยวิลเลียม เกรเกอร์ เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1791 เดิมมีชื่อเรียกว่ามาแนคคาไนท์ตามชื่อของแหล่งที่มา และในปีเดียวกันนั้นเอง ฌอง-ฟรองซัวส์ โบต แห่งเจนีวาก็ผลิตนาฬิกาที่มีชื่อตนเองบนหน้าปัดเป็นครั้งแรกในวัยเพียง 19 ปีหลังจากที่ไปร่ำเรียนวิชามาพักหนึ่ง ธุรกิจที่เขาก่อตั้งขึ้นยังคงเจริญเติบโตหลังจากที่เขาจากโลกนี้ไป แล้วในปี ค.ศ. 1906 ทางด้าน Girard-Perregaux จึงซื้อกิจการนั้นไปเพื่อขยายธุรกิจของตนให้เติบโตยิ่งกว่าเดิม การค้นพบไทเทเนียมโดยเกรเกอร์และการก่อตั้งธุรกิจนาฬิกาของโบตอาจจะเกิดขึ้นห่างกันราว 1,400 กิโลเมตรเมื่อกว่า 2 ศตวรรษมาแล้ว แต่ในวันนี้เรื่องราวทั้งสองก็ถูกนำมาผูกโยงกันไว้อย่างน่าสนใจใน Laureato Chronograph Ti49 ที่เราเลือกมานำเสนอในวันนี้
เราคาดว่าในช่วงครึ่งหลังของปีนี้ Girard-Perregaux จะไม่ออกอะไรมากมายนักในคอลเลคชั่น Laureato เพราะว่าน่าจะเตรียมเปิดตัวผลิตภัณฑ์เป็นชุดใหญ่ในปีหน้าซึ่งจะเป็นโอกาสครบรอบ 50 ปีของ Laureato เลยมากกว่า คุณผู้อ่านจะรอดูของปีหน้าก่อนก็ได้ แต่อย่าลืมนะครับว่าเมื่อของออกแล้ว เราเลือกเราสั่งแล้วก็ยังต้องรออีกพักหนึ่งกว่าจะได้ใส่ หรือไม่อย่างนั้นก็ซื้อ Laureato Chronograph Ti49 รุ่นนี้หรือ Laureato รุ่นอื่นที่พร้อมขายแล้วในวันนี้ก็ดี จะได้มีของใส่ทันก้าวเข้าสู่ปีที่ 50 ของคอลเลคชั่นนี้แบบหล่อๆ สบายๆ ไม่ต้องลุ้นว่าจะทันหรือไม่ทันครับ

The historical maison from La Chaux-de-Fonds has released the first classical Laureato in Grade 5 titanium.

We have been observing the Laureato with great interest ever since its rebirth in 2016 to coincide with the 225th anniversary of Girard-Perregaux. Several iterations of this sportive but refined timepiece have been offered, and, with the help of the integrated bracelet watch trend, the Laureato has become not only a full-fledged but also a distinctively successful collection in the span of only few years. There are models in stainless steel, gold, ceramic, black PVD-coated titanium, carbon and even sapphire, but there was not a natural titanium Laureato … until now.
Girard-Perregaux has recently unveiled the Laureato Chronograph Ti49 to fill a gap we did not realize existed. There have been a couple of black PVD-coated titanium Laureato Absolute models, but there was no straight-forward titanium Laureato in either the edgy Absolute line or the classic Laureato line. So this Laureato Chronograph Ti49 would be the first, with the number denoting the 49-year age of the Laureato which was born in 1975.
The 42 mm case and bracelet are crafted from Grade 5 titanium which is among the more expensive grades. The alloy is used in various industries from medical to aerospace. And, of course, it is highly suitable for watches as it is corrosion resistant, hypoallergenic and at the same time lightweight. Grade 5 titanium can be polished to a greater brilliance than the less costly grades of titanium as well. Matching the titanium’s grey hue are a grey Clous de Paris pattern dial with snailed counters, grey PVD-coated hour and minute hands, and, matching hour markers. This monochromic timepiece with 100-meter water resistance rating is powered by the in-house, self-winding Caliber GP03300 with 46 hours of power reserve.
If we can indulge you in a bit of history now that we still have your attention, there are two totally unrelated facts that somehow intertwine in this watch. Titanium was originally called manaccanite after the Manaccan Valley of Cornwall, England, where it was first discovered by William Gregor in 1791. In the same year, Jean-François Bautte of Geneva had produced his first watches at the young age of only 19, following a period of apprenticeship. The business that he started continued to flourish after his passing to when it was acquired by Girard-Perregaux in 1906, enabling the latter to expand even further. These two anecdotes have taken place some 1,400 kilometers apart over two centuries ago, but they have now come together in this Laureato Chronograph Ti49 we are presenting to you today.
Looking forward, we would not be surprised if Girard-Perregaux will be a little bit calm on the Laureato front in the second half of the year. After all, it will the collection’s golden jubilee next year and they must already have something special cooking in the pipeline. You can wait and see that, order one and wait a few more months until the eventual delivery. The alternative is to get this Laureato Chronograph Ti49 or another currently available model this year and be ready to enjoy the upcoming celebration year in great stride.
