นับตั้งแต่ที่เปิดตัวเป็นครั้งแรกในปี ค.ศ. 2019 คอลเลคชั่นนาฬิกา Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet ก็เป็นที่จดจำของผู้คนในวงกว้างขึ้นเรื่อยๆ มาโดยตลอด ด้วยการออกแบบตัวเรือนให้มีแนวเส้นโค้งและเหลี่ยมตัดกันอย่างน่าสนใจ จำนวนรุ่นของนาฬิกาในคอลเลคชั่นก็มีเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่องเช่นกัน

Ever since its introduction in 2019, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet has become increasingly ingrained into the overall product portfolio of the family-owned marque, thanks to the inimitable aesthetic cues of its multifaceted and curved architecture. The collection has also grown consistently, with new models of various technical flair that we have the fine opportunity to highlight in this quarterly print issue.
Let us begin with one of the most impressive new releases of 2023: the new iteration of Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon, now available with a smoked green enamelled aventurine dial that is crafted through several techniques. A blend of crushed aventurine glass and enamel is applied to the surface of a gold dial, which is then fired in a kiln. A mixture of glass sand and water is subsequently applied on top of that before the dial goes into the oven once again. This latter process is repeated several times, at different temperatures and for different durations, until the desired impression of depth is achieved.
The finished dial provides an attractive backdrop for the flying tourbillon with a pink-gold toned balance wheel to shine at the six o’clock position. A double curved sapphire crystal intensifies the play of light while also following the curvature of the 41 mm pink gold outer case with its integrated lugs. A painstakingly finished black ceramic middle case completes the architectural DNA of the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet design.

This novelty can be considered a close sibling of another Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon, featuring a black onyx dial in a white gold and black ceramic case setup from last year. The dial of this watch is cut from a single black onyx stone into a thin disc. It is then ground, sanded and polished before being affixed onto a pink gold-toned brass base plate. Purity is further enhanced by the absence of hour markers. The only embellishment on the gleaming black surface is the pink gold “Audemars Piguet” signature that is cut by laser and then polished.
Both the green enamelled aventurine dial and the onyx dial models are driven by the same selfwinding Calibre 2950 with a generous 65-hour power reserve. They are worn on a black rubber-coated strap with a textured motif to enhance their contemporary look.

Another 2023 release brings us further into the aural realm. The latest 41 mm Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Minute Repeater Supersonnerie is presented in a case combining pink gold with black ceramic. It also sports a smoked sapphire dial which affords a glimpse into the intricate mechanism underneath.
Audemars Piguet has been keen on the production of chiming watches since the beginning days of the company. For this novelty, the hand-wound minute repeater movement Calibre 2953 boasts the brand’s Supersonnerie technology that premiered with the Royal Oak Concept RD#1 watch in 2016. It offers the level of acoustic performance and harmonic tones once found in pocket watches, but in a wristwatch format instead. The tempo has also been improved with the elimination of that blank period when there is no quarter to chime in between the hours and the minutes.

Crossing back to the arena of spectacular visuals, the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel marks the return of the wandering hours complication at the Le Brassus manufacture, since the departure of the previous Starwheel watch in 2003.
The new Starwheel has three slightly domed aluminium discs that take turns indicating the hour as one progresses along the minute scale across the 120-degree arc at the top of the dial. A central second hand with a curved tip, not present in the 1990s models, is introduced in this novelty for enhanced practicality. A blue aventurine backdrop adds increased depth to the whole ensemble. This unique mechanism is animated by the selfwinding Calibre 4310, with a power reserve of 70 hours, which is housed in a white gold outer case contrasted with a black ceramic middle case.

Lastly, for lovers of skeletonised watches, we present the latest variation of the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Tourbillon Openworked in white gold and blue ceramic – the first use of blue ceramic on a Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet, and the first time that white gold is ever used in combination with blue ceramic.
Measuring only 3.65 mm thick, this watch’s hand-wound Calibre 2948 features an openworked mainplate and bridges that are visible from both sides of the watch. Their vertical satin-brushed surfaces contrast strikingly against the polished angles, and the electric blue shades draw attention to the geartrain and the tourbillon’s balance wheel. To complete the ensemble for this 41 mm timepiece, which aspires towards the future with its chromatics, Audemars Piguet equips it with a blue textured rubber-coated strap that is lined with calfskin leather for extra comfort. Only 50 units will be produced of this watch.
The Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection has once again proven itself as a fertile ground where materials, colours, artistic crafts and complex mechanisms come together in a most calculated fashion.
