ทันทีที่ภาพนาฬิกา Gem Dior ปรากฏขึ้นบนหน้าจอในห้องประชุมกองบรรณาธิการของเรา เสียงฮือฮาก็เกิดขึ้น สีหน้าแห่งความตื่นเต้นปรากฏบนใบหน้าของทุกคนที่อยากทราบขึ้นมาทันทีว่าคอลเลคชั่นใหม่ถอดด้ามของ Dior นี้มีรายละเอียดอะไรบ้าง
Gem Dior คือเรือนเวลาใหม่ที่มีความสำคัญที่สุดของ Dior ในปีนี้ ชื่อรุ่นตั้งมาโดยจงใจให้พ้องกับคำว่า “J’aime” ในภาษาฝรั่งเศสซึ่งแปลว่า “ฉันรัก” ตัวคอลเลคชั่นในเวลานี้ประกอบด้วยนาฬิกา 7 รุ่นและจิวเวลรี่อีก 11 ชิ้น ทั้งหมดออกแบบโดยวิคตัวร์ เดอ คาสเตลลานซึ่งใช้คำอธิบายผลงานเหล่านี้ว่าเป็นแนว “แอ๊บสแตรก-ออร์แกนิก” และเป็น “ความยุ่งเหยิงที่มีระเบียบ”
ตัวเรือนของ Gem Dior มีขนาด 27 x 25 มม. รูปทรงของตัวเรือนนั้นโดดเด่นไม่เหมือนใครเพราะเป็นทรงแปดเหลี่ยมแบบด้านไม่เท่า ความตั้งใจคือจะให้ดูเหมือนกับเป็นหน้าตัดของก้อนแร่ธาตุที่เกิดขึ้นในธรรมชาติ ความอสมมาตรดังกล่าวยังคงไหลต่อเนื่องต่อไปยังสายนาฬิกาซึ่งข้อสายเกิดจากการนำอัญมณีหลากชนิดมาซ้อนต่อกันเป็นระดับชั้น ซึ่งตัวผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายศิลป์ของ Dior Joaillerie ไปได้แรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างดีไซน์นี้มาจากแผงผ้าสีต่างๆ ที่คุณดิออร์เคยปักไว้บนแผ่นกระดาษเวลาจะจัดแฟชั่นโชว์ในยุคสมัยก่อน
ครั้นเมื่อฝ่ายผลิตของ Dior สามารถเอาชนะความยากลำบากในกระบวนการผลิตได้แล้ว เรือนเวลา Gem Dior ที่เกิดขึ้นจึงเป็นการหลอมรวมกันของโลกแห่งธรรมชาติและอาภรณ์อย่างแท้จริง นาฬิการุ่นที่มีความฟู่ฟ่าที่สุดในคอลเลคชั่นนี้คือรุ่นเยลโลว์โกลด์ที่มีหน้าปัดมาลาไคท์และขอบตัวเรือนประดับเพชร 7 ด้านและประดับเทอร์ควอยซ์ 1 ด้าน แล้วยังมีสีสันอื่นๆ อีกบนสายนาฬิกาจากการเลือกใช้มาลาไคท์ ลาปิสลาซูลี คาร์เนเลียน พิงค์โอปอลและไทเกอร์สอายเรียงต่อกัน ส่วนรุ่นอื่นๆ อีก 6 รุ่นนั้นมีทั้งที่เป็นสเตนเลสสตีล เป็นทูโทน เป็นโรสโกลด์และเป็นไวท์โกลด์
นาฬิกา Gem Dior สวมบนข้อมือในรูปแบบคัฟเปิดเพราะว่าสายนาฬิกาไม่มีบานพับ นอกจากเรือนเวลาแล้ว สถาปัตยกรรมในการออกแบบนี้สะท้อนให้เห็นได้ในผลงานจิวเวลรี่อีก 11 ชิ้นซึ่งเปิดตัวพร้อมกันนี้ด้วย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นกำไล แหวนและต่างหูซึ่งผลิตด้วยเยลโลว์โกลด์ พิงค์โกลด์และไวท์โกลด์ บ้างก็ประดับเพชรบางส่วนและบ้างก็ประดับเพชรเต็มพื้นที่

As soon as the pictures of the Gem Dior watches appeared on the big screen of our editorial meeting room, a spark of joyful surprise could be noticed across the board. Gripped with intrigue, everyone wanted to know more about this nascent collection.
Gem Dior possibly represents the most important watch launch of Dior this year. The name itself alludes to “J’aime” which is French for “I love”. The original collection comprises seven watches and 11 jewellery items for the time being. According to their designer, Victoire de Castellane, they are “abstract-organic” and “an organized disruption”.
First of all, the 27 x 25 mm watch case is decidedly quirky with an irregular octagon shape. The idea is for it to resemble the cross section of naturally formed minerals. The flow of asymmetry continues on the bracelet, which features a stratification of gemstone layers – the Artistic Director of Dior Joaillerie was inspired by how Monsieur Dior pinned fabric swatches from his haute couture shows onto sheets of paper.
Once the technical challenges were overcome by Dior’s production ateliers, the resulting timepiece is a true symbiosis of nature and couture. The most striking and exuberant piece in this range, a yellow gold model with a malachite dial offers a bezel set with diamonds on seven sides and turquoise on one side. More colours can be found on the bracelet through clever use of malachite, lapis lazuli, carnelian, pink opal and tiger’s eye. Six other versions are executed in stainless steel, bicolour, rose gold and white gold.
The Gem Dior watch is worn as an open cuff because the articulated bracelet is without a clasp. The architecture is reflected in the 11 other jewellery creations launched at this same time: bangles, rings and earrings in yellow gold, pink gold and white gold, partially or fully paved with diamonds.
