ที่จริงแล้วผมชอบสายแบบเบรซเลทนะครับ เพราะว่าน้ำหนักและความบึกบึนของสายเบรซเลทมันสื่อถึงความประณีตของนาฬิกาได้ดียิ่งกว่า สายแบบเบรซเลทที่ออกแบบมาได้ดีจะกลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของสถาปัตยกรรมของนาฬิการุ่นนั้น และผมชอบที่สายแบบเบรซเลทช่วยส่งเสริมแง่มุมแห่งความจีรังและความเป็นโครงสร้างได้ด้วย สำหรับสายแบบสแตรปนั้นถึงผมจะชอบที่มันมีความอเนกประสงค์และสามารถเปลี่ยนลุคให้กับนาฬิกาได้ก็จริง แต่ในเรื่องของความต่อเนื่องและความสมบูรณ์นั้นผมต้องยกให้สายแบบเบรซเลทครับ และการที่สายแบบเบรซเลทมันสะท้อนแสงได้ยังช่วยเพิ่มอีกหนึ่งรายละเอียดที่ดึงดูดสายตาให้กับดีไซน์โดยรวมอีกด้วยครับ

Known for his vibrant work blending street art, digital aesthetics, and kinetic elements, Pantone has merged a bold, futuristic vision with the brand’s tradition of precision and craftsmanship. Join us in this (almost) exclusive interview as we explore his creative journey, symbolism and real-world experience wearing Zenith watches.
Is Valencia home to your family? How does living there affect or contribute to your creativity as an artist?
Yes, Valencia is home for me and my girlfriend, and my mum and family live nearby. It’s the perfect-sized city for what I need – big enough to have every supply, service, and resource necessary for my projects, yet quiet and peaceful enough to focus on my work. The weather is amazing year-round, and the proximity to the sea adds a sense of calm and inspiration. There’s something about the combination of urban energy and natural beauty here that I love, allowing me to experiment with different mediums and ideas while staying grounded.
How did you manage to infuse such a traditional industry as watchmaking with your dynamism and digital revolution?
Watchmaking has a rich history of precision and tradition, and infusing it with my dynamic, digital aesthetic was both a challenge and an opportunity. When I first collaborated with Zenith, the key was finding a balance between respecting the heritage of watchmaking while bringing in my visual language of motion, color and light. Zenith’s openness to innovation allowed me to introduce elements like gradients and optical illusions that gave the watches a sense of energy and movement. It was about merging two worlds – mechanical tradition and digital revolution – into a harmonious piece of art.
Please share that moment of getting to know Zenith products for the first time.
I remember that briefing clearly. Zenith introduced me to their core philosophy of innovation within the framework of tradition, particularly with the Defy collection. They explained how the Defy line is all about pushing technical boundaries and breaking conventions in design while maintaining a strong connection to their heritage. I was immediately drawn to this concept because it mirrors my own approach to art – respecting the past while constantly evolving. The moment I saw their watches and heard their vision, I knew there was a strong creative alignment between us.
Your work is typically large in size. What was the greatest challenge in incorporating your chromatic signature on the smaller canvas of a wristwatch?
The greatest challenge was in scaling down the impact of my work while keeping the same sense of movement and energy. On a large surface, like a mural, the viewer can step back and experience the full spectrum of color and light. On a wristwatch, every millimeter matters, so I had to carefully consider how to bring that same dynamism to a much smaller space. The solution came through using details like color gradients, light-reflective surfaces, and precise lines to create the illusion of depth and motion, even on a small canvas.
For this latest Defy Skyline Tourbillon Felipe Pantone, we notice that the dial is fuller than the previous two watches where the dials were more skeletonized.
The fuller dial was a deliberate choice to give the watch a more immersive and cohesive feel. While the skeletonized designs had their own appeal, I wanted the Defy Skyline Tourbillon to feel more like a complete work of art on the wrist. By filling the dial, I could experiment more with light, color and texture, creating a richer visual experience. It allows the watch to stand out as a singular, unified piece, where every element contributes to the overall effect of motion and interaction with light.
What does the bolt symbolize in your various pieces of work? And why did you choose to have it for the tourbillon bridge?
The bolt is a recurring symbol in my work because it represents energy, speed, and raw power – all concepts that are central to my artistic vision. It’s a visual representation of movement and electricity, forces that drive both technology and nature. For the tourbillon bridge, the bolt felt like a perfect fit because the tourbillon is one of the most intricate and powerful components in a watch. By incorporating the bolt, I wanted to fuse the mechanical precision of watchmaking with the untamed energy that defines my work.
Are you more of a bracelet person or a strap person, and why?
I actually prefer bracelets. There’s something about the weight and solidity of a bracelet that feels more connected to the craftsmanship of the watch. A well-designed bracelet becomes part of the watch’s architecture, and I like how it adds a sense of permanence and structure. While I appreciate straps for their versatility and how they can change the look of the watch, a bracelet gives me a sense of continuity and completeness. Plus, the way a bracelet reflects light can add an extra layer of visual interest to the overall design.
We assume you wear one of your collaborative watches with Zenith in daily life? Has that led to any interesting conversation when you meet with people?
Yes, I often wear one of my Zenith watches, and it definitely sparks conversations. One moment that stands out was when I met someone at an art event, and they noticed the way the light was interacting with the watch’s dial. They were intrigued by how the colors shifted depending on the angle and asked me about the design process. It was a great opportunity to talk about how the watch is more than just a timepiece – it’s an extension of my artistic philosophy, where motion, light, and color are constantly in dialogue. It’s always interesting to see how people connect with the watch on an emotional and aesthetic level.
