Seiko Prospex Urban Safari SRPE29K1
คงไม่มีใครในปี ค.ศ. 1975 ที่จะคาดคิดว่านาฬิกาดำน้ำ 600 เมตรรุ่น Ref. 6159-7010 ของ Seiko ที่มีชื่อเล่นว่า Tuna จะขึ้นบกได้อย่างสวยงามในวันหนึ่ง เมื่อ Seiko ใช้ดีไซน์ที่โดดเด่นของนาฬิการุ่นดั้งเดิมนั้นเป็นแรงบันดาลใจในการออกแบบนาฬิกาในชุด Prospex Street Series ช่วงปลายปี ค.ศ. 2018 ให้มีรูปลักษณ์ถูกใจวัยรุ่นและลูกค้ากลุ่มไลฟ์สไตล์ ทั้งในเรื่องสีสันที่มีให้เลือกและตัวเรือนที่เพรียวบางลงกว่าเดิม แต่ก็ยังคงไว้ซึ่งการ์ดป้องกันตัวเรือนชั้นนอกซึ่งถือว่าเป็นซิกเนเจอร์สำคัญของนาฬิการุ่นนี้ การก้าวผ่านเวลาอย่างงดงามของ Seiko รุ่นนี้เองเป็นตัวจุดประกายให้เรารวบรวมนาฬิการุ่นต่างๆ ที่สามารถดัดแปลงหรือต่อยอดดีไซน์ดั้งเดิมจนดูร่วมสมัยได้

Who would have thought back then that Seiko’s purpose-built, 600-metre dive watch Ref. 6159-7010 (or Tuna) of 1975 would one day make land invasion. Using its unique construction as inspiration, Seiko has designed the new Prospex Street Series in late 2018 to keep in tune with the times. It entices a more lifestyle-oriented group of consumers with greater colour options and a slimmer profile, while retaining the signature outer protector. This smooth transition gave us the idea to handpick watches that manage to evolve, staying relevant over time.
The first watches in this series even came with a solar-powered movement. For 2020, Seiko has broadened their offering with two mechanical models under the Urban Safari theme: the SRPE29K1 (show here) and the SRPE31K1 in grey. Seiko’s movement of choice for this novelty is the self-winding Calibre 4R36 with day and date indications. The 43.2 mm stainless steel watch with hard coating is equipped with a Hardlex crystal for improved resistance against scratches. It is worn with a colour-matching silicone strap whose outward-facing surface is textured to look like leather. Together with the traditional accordion design, the strap will look at home in the city while standing up equally well to outdoor pursuits.
Mido Commander Shade

สำหรับ Commander Shade รุ่นที่เลือกมานำเสนอในบทความนี้เป็นการพัฒนาต่อยอดไปในทิศทางที่เราไม่คาดคิดมาก่อน นั่นก็คือการเคลือบพีวีดีสีดำทั่วทั้งตัวเรือนโมโนค็อคทรงกลมและสายโลหะแบบเมชในสไตล์มิลานีส หน้าปัดเป็นแบบไล่สีน้ำเงินเข้ม เมื่อมองรวมกันแล้วจึงมีความทันสมัย ไม่ลุงแล้ว แต่ก็ยังค่อนข้างเล็กอยู่เพราะเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางตัวเรือนเพียงแค่ 37 มม. เท่านั้น จึงควรลองบนข้อมือให้ชัวร์ก่อนซื้อ ส่วนในเรื่องเครื่องนั้นหายห่วงเพราะว่า Mido ใช้เครื่องออโต้รุ่นคาลิเบอร์ 80 ซึ่งเป็นเครื่องระดับท็อปของตนในนาฬิการุ่นนี้
Let’s face the truth: the Mido Commander watch is very well known in Thailand as your uncle’s watch (or grandfather’s, if you are very young). It may sound old-fashioned, but when you think about it, the ubiquitous choice is a testament to the watch’s quality that very well served the generation whose lives were not as easy as ours.
The first Commander model premiered in 1959 and it rose to its heights in the 1970s. For the 100th anniversary of Mido in 2018, the company chose to promote their DNA of timeless design, quality materials and technical innovation. Two novelties at that time included a pair of Commander Shade watches with subtly gradient dials – one in simple stainless steel and one with rose gold PVD.
This latest Commander Shade takes more liberty with its design, and in ways we have not envisioned previously. Its round monocoque case and integrated Milanese mesh bracelet are given a black PVD coating, which is then matched by a gradient, deep blue dial. The entire package is quite contemporary, not at all your uncle’s version. It is a tad small though at 37 mm, so it is best to try it for fit first. Movement-wise, there are no concerns, as this Commander boasts Mido’s flagship self-winding Calibre 80.
Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35

The Navitimer serves as the emblematic Breitling watch with its slide rule bezel. Introduced in 1952, with the name being a conjunction of “navigation” and “timer”, the watch was marketed for pilots who could benefit from the stopwatch function of the chronograph and the calculations made possible by the said slide rule bezel. It went on to become a trusted tool for professionals, to survive the quartz crisis, and, after the dust settled, to retain its status as the must-have pilot watch for many watch buyers around the world.
One year after Breitling was sold to CVC Capital Partners in 2017, the company brought out the Navitimer Automatic 38 as a three-hand, non-chronograph watch but still with a slide rule bezel. The idea was to appeal to men with smaller wrists as well as to ladies who have become more accustomed to wearing larger, more masculine timepieces as a lifestyle choice. That instant success emboldened Breitling to continue with an even smaller Navitimer Automatic 35 last year. Model options in stainless steel include a blue, silver or copper dial, as well as a mother-of-pearl dial with diamond hour markers. The watch also comes in two-tone or full red gold. All references are powered by the COSC-certified Breitling Calibre 17.
Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon
นาฬิกา Speedmaster ได้ชื่อเล่นว่า Moonwatch มาตั้งแต่ครั้งที่ร่วมเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในภารกิจร่อนลงดวงจันทร์ของโครงการ Apollo โดย NASA นาฬิการุ่นนี้มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงรายละเอียดเล็กน้อยเรื่อยมาเหมือนนาฬิการุ่นอื่นๆ และก็มีรุ่นแยกย่อยต่างๆ มากมายซึ่งก็ไม่ได้บดบังหรือส่งผลกระทบต่อความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของ Speedmaster รุ่นมาตรฐาน

Omega’s Speedmaster earned its “Moonwatch” moniker from its association with the Apollo lunar missions of NASA. Like other famous timepieces, it went through subtle changes over the decades and had their spin-off subcollections that did not obscure or dilute the sanctity of the standard Speedmaster.
For the new ceramic age of watchmaking, Omega unveiled, in 2013, an all-ceramic version of the Speedmaster watch in black. In terms of marketing, it made good use of the “Dark Side of the Moon” story, as related by Apollo astronauts of the side of the moon that always faces away from the earth. The watch was followed almost immediately by the Grey Side of the Moon and the White Side of the Moon, as well as four other stylistic variations of the Dark Side of the Moon: Pitch Black, Black Black, Vintage Black and Sedna Black.
Still, it is the simple Dark Side of the Moon that occupies the position as the main staple of the entire ceramic Speedmaster effort. It has made the self-winding Calibre 9300 with bicompax layout and combined hour and minute totalisers more well loved by Speedmaster fans as well.
Panerai Submersible Carbotech PAM00960

You have to admire Panerai for being able to evolve, innovate and make young the historic watches they produced for the Italian Navy before and after World War II, first with the Radiomir and later with the Luminor (shown here).
In the modern days of commercial production outside of the service to the military, Panerai introduced the Luminor Submersible in 1998, adding to the Luminor the extra functionality of a unidirectional rotating bezel. Variants were produced over the years under the Luminor Submersible name until 2019, when the Submersible was removed from the Luminor family and instituted as a full-fledged collection of survival instruments for people who aspire to explore the more extreme corners of the earth. As such, it is associated with brand ambassadors like Explorer Mike Horn and free diving champion Guillaume Néry.
You will find current Submersible watches in other materials such as stainless steel, titanium, eco-titanium (recycled titanium), BMG-TECH (injection-moulded bulk metallic glass) and bronze. Shown here is the PAM00960 in Carbotech. A proprietary Panerai material since 2015, Carbotech is hypoallergenic, lighter than titanium and ceramic, and sports a characteristic look from the compressed carbon fibre sheets.
Longines Heritage Classic Chronograph Tuxedo
Longines รุ่นนี้อาจจะไม่ค่อยเข้าพวกกับอีกเจ็ดเรือนที่เหลือที่เราเลือกมา เพราะนาฬิการุ่นอื่นๆ ในบทความนี้เป็นการนำนาฬิการุ่นดั้งเดิมมาดัดแปลงใหม่ให้ดูร่วมสมัย แต่ Longines Heritage Classic Chronograph Tuxedo รุ่นนี้เป็นการนำนาฬิกาโครโนกราฟรุ่นหนึ่งของ Longines เองเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1943 กลับมาผลิตใหม่เลยด้วยเทคโนโลยีในสมัยปัจจุบัน นี่ไม่ใช่รุ่นแรกและจะไม่ใช่รุ่นสุดท้าย เพราะ Longines เป็นแบรนด์ที่มีประวัติศาสตร์ยาวนานถึง 188 ปี และตลอดช่วงเวลานั้นก็มีนาฬิการุ่นที่น่าสนใจและควรค่าแก่การนำกลับมาผลิตใหม่อยู่มากมาย

This Longines watch offers a slight anomaly in this feature article. While the other seven watches reflect a reinterpreted variant of an older timepiece, the Longines Heritage Classic Chronograph Tuxedo is a recreation of a certain Longines chronograph watch from 1943. With a history spanning 188 years, you can be sure that the Saint-Imier firm will not run out of classic models to bring back to life.
With the Heritage collection, Longines is making retro sexy once again, and in a meaningful way because of the aforementioned roots. Having recreated dive watches, aviation watches and military watches, Longines also focuses on dressier watches such as the Heritage Classic Chronograph 1946. The elegant 40 mm stainless steel watch with the bicompax layout benefited from the use of the self-winding L895.5 movement, developed exclusively for Longines Heritage timepieces.
Following in the technical footprint of that watch, last year’s Heritage Classic Chronograph Tuxedo celebrates the spirit of the post-World War II 1940s when people dressed up and went out to dance to the liveliness of jazz music. The matte black and opaline zoning of the dial adds to the personality of the watch, as does the touch of blue on the hands and tachymeter scale. The ratio of elegance and audacity is perfectly conveyed.

แคมเปญหลักของ Swatch ในปี ค.ศ. 2020 คือการนำเสนอคอลเลคชั่นชื่อ Big Bold Jelly ซึ่งเป็น Big Bold เรือนโตในเวอร์ชั่นโปร่งแสง นาฬิการุ่นแรกของคอลเลคชั่นนี้มีชื่อว่า Big Bold Jellyfish ซึ่งเปิดตัวในฐานะส่วนหนึ่งของคอลเลคชั่น Christmas ปี ค.ศ. 2019 ตัวเรือนเป็นพลาสติกโปร่งแสงสีขาวขนาด 47 มม. สายเป็นซิลิโคนสีขาวโปร่งแสงเช่นเดียวกัน แต่สิ่งที่เราบังเอิญสังเกตเห็นและทำให้ต้องนึกว่าเคยเห็นที่ใดมาก่อนก็คือเข็มชั่วโมง เข็มนาทีและเข็มวินาทีที่เป็นสีแดง สีน้ำเงินและสีเหลืองตามลำดับ
สุดท้ายจึงได้คำตอบว่าก็เห็นมาจาก Swatch นั้นเอง จากนาฬิกาชื่อ Jellyfish เหมือนกันเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1983 และหน้าปัดของทั้งรุ่นเดิมและรุ่นใหม่ก็เผยให้เห็นการทำงานของเครื่องควอตซ์ที่อยู่ข้างในเหมือนกัน งานนี้ต้องยกนิ้วให้ Swatch เลยที่สามารถเชื่อมโยงรุ่นใหม่ล่าสุดกับรุ่นประวัติศาสตร์ได้อย่างแนบเนียนขนาดนี้
A book can be written about Swatch and their countless watches. In fact, several publications have been dedicated to the glory and vibrancy of this very important Swiss watch brand. If you have been following local activities in Thailand, you would have noticed that Swatch is working very hard to reassert their position as a maker of fashionable, expressive and relevant timepieces. This is achieved through the launch of boutiques in prime locations, as well as associated activities and communication campaigns.
For 2020, Swatch pitches first and foremost the Big Bold Jelly – a translucent version of the Big Bold oversized watches. The first Big Bold Jelly to enter the marketing scene is the Big Bold Jellyfish. Introduced as a part of the 2019 Christmas collection, the 47 mm watch features a translucent white plastic case that is matched to a translucent white silicone strap.
The colourful set of hands caught our attention almost immediately. We were certain we had seen the combination of the red hour hand and blue minute hand with a yellow second hand previously. It turns out that the design was based on a 1983 Swatch of the same name, Jellyfish, which also revealed the innerworkings of the quartz movement. Kudos to Swatch for this subtle and historically linked move!
Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Moon
Reverso ในสายตาหลายๆ คนคือตัวแทนแห่งแบรนด์ Jaeger-LeCoultre ความชัดเจนตรงจุดนี้หนักแน่นถึงระดับที่บางคนบอกเลยว่าถ้าจะมี Jaeger-LeCoultre เรือนเดียวก็ขอให้เป็น Reverso ซึ่งเราฟังแล้วก็เข้าใจได้ว่าเหตุใดจึงสรุปเช่นนั้น ถึงแม้ว่าเราจะไม่ได้เห็นด้วยแบบ 100% ก็ตาม เพราะว่าแบรนด์บ้านใหญ่แห่งเลอซองทิเยร์นี้ก็ยังมีอะไรที่น่าสนใจอีกมากมาย
อย่างไรก็ดี Reverso ก็เป็นคอลเลคชั่นนาฬิกาที่มีเรื่องราวและใส่ได้ในหลายโอกาส ทั้งยังเป็นนาฬิกาเพียงหนึ่งในไม่กี่รุ่นในตลาดทุกวันนี้ที่หมุนพลิกด้านหน้าและหลังได้ จากเดิมที่พลิกมาแล้วเจอแต่ฝาหลังทึบก็พัฒนาต่อเนื่องจนในช่วงทศวรรษหลังๆ นี้มีการใช้พื้นที่ด้านหลังให้เกิดประโยชน์ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการใส่หน้าปัดที่สองลงไปหรือแม้แต่การโชว์เครื่องไปเลยก็ตาม ในภาพหน้าตรงข้ามนี้คือ Reverso Tribute Moon ซึ่งเปิดตัวในปี ค.ศ. 2017 หน้าปัดไม่มีเลขอารบิกแต่ใช้หลักชั่วโมงรูปทรงเหมือนกับ Reverso รุ่นแรกแทน ไฮไลท์สำคัญที่เพิ่มเข้ามาคือมูนเฟสที่ตำแหน่งหกนาฬิกาซึ่งมีเข็มวันที่ซ้อนอยู่ เมื่อพลิกมาทางด้านหลังจะเป็นหน้าปัดที่สองในสีน้ำเงินและมีสัญลักษณ์บอกกลางวัน/กลางคืน ทำให้เหมือนเป็นนาฬิกาสองเรือนในเรือนเดียว
คอลเลคชั่น Reverso ถือกำเนิดขึ้นในปี ค.ศ. 1931 จึงจะมีอายุครบ 90 ปีในปีนี้ เตรียมตัวรอชมกันเลยดีกว่าว่า Jaeger-LeCoultre จะเปิดตัวนาฬิการุ่นอะไรออกมาเพื่อทำให้กระเป๋าเงินของเราสั่นสะเทือนกันบ้าง
The Reverso collection is so synonymous with Jaeger-LeCoultre that many buyers swear they will go for it if they can own only one watch from this Grande Maison of Le Sentier. While our editorial members are more open than that, we can appreciate the logic on which the statement is based. After all, the Reverso represents such a storied and versatile collection, with one of very, very few reversible timepieces in the market today.
From the original timepieces with a solid caseback, many Reverso watches of recent decades have made use of the extra space on the reverse side, either by putting in place a second dial or simply showing the movement. The Reverso Tribute Moon, introduced in 2017, eschewed Arabic numerals in favour of applied hour markers in the same aesthetic style as the very first Reverso. Its highlight is the moon phase indication with a date hand at six o’clock. A secondary dial in blue with a day/night indicator can be found on the verso side, imparting a sense of having two watches in one.
First created in 1931, the Reverso collection will enjoy its grand 90th anniversary this year, so please be ready for any special timepieces Jaeger-LeCoultre may launch on that occasion. We are sure there will be many.
