Credor ฉลองครบรอบ 50 ปีด้วยนาฬิกา Eichi II รุ่นพิเศษ

Credor เป็นชื่อแบรนด์ที่เกิดขึ้นเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1974 จากการกร่อนวลี “crête d’or” ในภาษาฝรั่งเศสซึ่งแปลตรงตัวได้ว่า “ยอดเขาสีทอง” เพื่อให้ชื่อ Credor นี้สื่อถึงความสง่างามและสุนทรียะที่เหนือชั้นของเรือนเวลาในระดับสูงสุดของบริษัท Seiko Watch Corporation
คุณเคนอิชิ คิโตะ ผู้จัดการอาวุโส แผนกการตลาดเอเชียแปซิฟิกและตะวันออกกลาง Seiko Watch Corporation เป็นผู้ยืนยันว่าเราเข้าใจที่มาของชื่อแบรนด์ถูกต้องแล้ว ไม่เพียงเท่านั้น เขายังให้ความรู้เราเพิ่มเติมอีกด้วยว่า “และอยากให้สังเกตด้วยครับว่าโลโก้ของ Credor นั้นดูคล้ายกับตัวอักษรญี่ปุ่นคันจิคำว่า ‘ภูเขา’ ซึ่งดีไซเนอร์ของเราก็ได้ใช้รูปทรงของตัวอักษรนี้มาออกแบบเป็นโลโก้ของ Credor”
“Credor นำเสนอคุณภาพในระดับสูงสุด และความงามตามแบบแผนของญี่ปุ่นแท้ๆ โดยอาจจะเป็นนาฬิกาที่เรียบง่ายมากๆ หรืออาจจะเป็นนาฬิกาที่มีความสลับซับซ้อนมากๆ ก็เป็นได้ แต่ Credor จะต่างจาก Grand Seiko ที่มีการทำตลาดในระดับโลกแล้วเพราะว่า Credor ยังมุ่งทำตลาดเฉพาะในญี่ปุ่นเป็นหลัก โดยจะมีบางซีรีส์ที่ขายออกไปยังตลาดโลกผ่านทางรีเทลเลอร์ที่ผ่านการคัดเลือกมาเป็นอย่างดีเหมือนเช่นที่นี่ (SHH Pendulum)”
กองบรรณาธิการของเราได้เห็นนาฬิกา Credor ทั้งสองแนวมาแล้ว ทั้งแบบที่มีรายละเอียดสุดวิจิตรอย่างเช่นรุ่น Fugaku จากปี ค.ศ. 2016 ซึ่งมีรายละเอียดการแกะสลักอย่างน่าชมและยังเป็นนาฬิกาตูร์บิยองรุ่นแรกของ Seiko อีกด้วย และทั้งแบบที่ดูมินิมอลมากๆ อย่างรุ่น Eichi จากปี ค.ศ. 2008 หรือรุ่น Eichi II ที่ออกมาแทนที่ในปี ค.ศ. 2014 และเนื่องในโอกาสครบรอบ 50 ปีของ Credor ในปีนี้ ทางแบรนด์จึงเลือกที่จะนำเสนอความงามในแบบฉบับญี่ปุ่นในทุกรายละเอียดอีกครั้งผ่านทางนาฬิกา Eichi II รุ่นพิเศษรหัส GBLT996 เป็นลิมิเต็ดเอดิชั่นจำนวน 30 เรือนที่ผสานความเลอค่าสุดคลาสสิกของวัสดุเยลโลว์โกลด์เข้ากับหน้าปัดพอร์ซเลนสีน้ำเงินเข้ม
งานผลิตหน้าปัดพอร์ซเลนนั้นถือเป็นงานศิลป์ชนิดหนึ่ง เมื่อมองเผินๆ หน้าปัดพอร์ซเลนนั้นอาจจะดูคล้ายกับหน้าปัดเอนาเมลตรงพื้นผิวที่ดูคล้ายแก้ว แต่ในความเป็นจริงแล้วแตกต่างกันเป็นอย่างมาก โดยคุณเททสึโอ โอกูชิ ช่างพอร์ซเลนประจำ Micro Artist Studio ซึ่งเป็นทีมช่างที่ผลิตนาฬิกา Credor ให้ความรู้กับเราว่าหน้าปัดพอร์ซเลนนั้นมีพื้นชั้นล่างเป็นเซรามิก ในขณะที่หน้าปัดเอนาเมลมีพื้นชั้นล่างเป็นโลหะ นั่นหมายความว่าหน้าปัดพอร์ซเลนจะสามารถเข้าสู่เตาอบซึ่งมีอุณหภูมิสูงกว่าหน้าปัดเอนาเมลได้ เพราะว่าไม่มีองค์ประกอบที่เป็นโลหะซึ่งจะเกิดการผิดรูปขึ้นเมื่อถูกความร้อนในระดับที่เกินกว่าจะรับได้ และนี่เองเป็นสาเหตุที่ Credor เลือกใช้เทคนิคพอร์ซเลนแทนที่จะใช้เทคนิคเอนาเมล ทั้งที่เคยคิดจะใช้เอนาเมลมาก่อนตั้งแต่แรก
คุณโอกูชิกล่าวด้วยความภาคภูมิใจว่า “เสน่ห์ของหน้าปัดพอร์ซเลนอยู่ตรงที่ความมันเงา เราสามารถเลือกลงสีต่างๆ ได้เองให้ผลงานของเรามีออริจินอลไม่เหมือนใครได้ แล้วอีกอย่างหนึ่งก็คือว่าเมื่อพอร์ซเลนถูกเผาด้วยความสูงเช่นนี้แล้ว ไม่ว่าเวลาผ่านไปนานเท่าไร สีของมันก็จะไม่เปลี่ยน เหมือนเราหยุดเวลาเอาไว้เลย และนั่นก็เป็นเหตุผลว่าทำไมเทคนิคพอร์ซเลนนี้จึงถูกนำมาใช้ในนาฬิการะดับไฮคลาส”
นอกจากเรื่องความงามแล้ว ประสิทธิภาพในการบอกเวลาก็ย่อมเป็นปัจจัยที่เราต้องให้ความสำคัญ นาฬิกาขนาดตัวเรือน 39 มม. รุ่นนี้ทำงานด้วยเครื่องนาฬิการะบบ Spring Drive แบบไขลานรุ่นคาลิเบอร์ 7R14 ซึ่งมีกำลังลานสำรอง 60 ชั่วโมง โดยมีจุดขายสำคัญอยู่ที่ความเที่ยงตรงเหนือชั้นของเทคโนโลยี Spring Drive ที่วิศวกรแห่งโรงงาน Seiko Epson Shiojiri แห่งเมืองนากาโนะอันเป็นที่ตั้งของ Micro Artist Studio ใช้เวลาพัฒนาอยู่นานถึง 22 ปีจนเป็นผลสำเร็จ และแม้ว่าวิศวกรท่านนั้นจะจากโลกนี้ไปแล้ว แต่ว่าเพื่อนร่วมงานซึ่งเป็นวิศวกรและช่างนาฬิกายุคต่อมาก็ยังคงสร้างเครื่องนาฬิการุ่นใหม่ๆ โดยใช้รากฐานที่เขาวางไว้แล้วเป็นอย่างดี
หนึ่งในนั้นก็คือคุณคุณมาซาโตชิ โมเตกิ ซึ่งมาเริ่มงานที่นี่เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1993 และมีส่วนร่วมในช่วงเวลา 5 ปีหลังของการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยี Spring Drive จากปี ค.ศ. 1994 จนถึงปี ค.ศ. 1999. ปัจจุบันคุณโมเตกิมีตำแหน่งนักออกแบบเครื่องนาฬิกาและยังเป็นผู้ควบคุมดูแล Micro Artist Studio ควบอีกหนึ่งตำแหน่ง ผลงานที่เกิดภายใต้การดูแลของเขา ได้แก่ เครื่อง Spring Drive Sonnerie เครื่อง Spring Drive Minute Repeater และเครื่อง Spring Drive 8 Days ในปี ค.ศ. 2006, 2011 และ 2016 ตามลำดับ
คุณโมเตกิซึ่งซื้อนาฬิกา Spring Drive รุ่นแรกจากปี ค.ศ. 1999 ด้วยเงินตนเองและยังคงใส่เป็นประจำทุกวันจนถึงวันนี้เล่าให้เราฟังว่า “Micro Artist Studio ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี 2000 เพื่อดำรงรักษาเทคนิคการประดิษฐ์นาฬิกาไว้ให้คนรุ่นใหม่ได้สืบต่อ เราเน้นเรื่องการผลิตช่างฝีมือที่สุด เริ่มแรกนั้นเรามีกันเพียงแค่ 2 คน หลังจากนั้นมีสมาชิกเพิ่มขึ้นแต่ก็เกษียณอายุออกไปแล้ว ปัจจุบันจึงมีสมาชิกประมาณ 10 คน การสอนคนรุ่นใหม่ก็มีลักษณะเป็นออนเดอะจ๊อบเทรนนิ่งที่เราคอยดูการทำงานของผู้เรียน คอยเช็คและให้คำวิจารณ์เพื่อการปรับปรุง ทั้งในด้านงานกลไกและงานศิลป์”
แน่นอนว่า Credor ก็เหมือนกับอีกหลายแบรนด์ในระดับไฮเอ็นด์ที่มีเรื่องราวที่รอให้คนได้มาค้นพบและทำความรู้จักกันในเชิงลึก หากคุณสนใจแบรนด์นาฬิกาที่จัดอยู่ในข่ายของดีที่เป็นความลับของประเทศญี่ปุ่นแบรนด์นี้ ลองไปคุยกับ SHH Pendulum ที่ Siam Paragon หรือบูติคของ Grand Seiko ที่ Gaysorn Village ดูก่อนได้ สต็อคของอาจไม่ได้มีมากรุ่นแต่ก็น่าจะพอให้คุณได้สัมผัสถึงความเป็น Credor เพื่อที่จะได้สั่งของรุ่นที่คุณชอบได้อย่างมั่นใจ

The commemorative watch once again takes a simple watch to the highest peak.

First introduced in 1974, Credor was meant to be the top echelon of timepieces at Seiko Watch Corporation. The name itself is derived from the French words “crête d’or”, literally “the golden peak”, and alludes to an unsurpassed level of elegance and aesthetics.
We met with Kenichi Kito who confirmed our understanding of the nomenclature. The Senior Manager of Marketing Department (Asia-Pacific and Middle East) adds, “Also, the logo of the Credor is similar to the Japanese Kanji character for ‘mountain’. Our designers were inspired to turn this character into a graphic logo.”
“Credor delivers the highest quality and ultimate beauty in the true Japanese aesthetic sense – it can be very simple, and it can be very elaborated. However, unlike Grand Seiko which has been launched as an international brand, Credor is more focused on the Japanese domestic market, with some series sold to the global market through selective retailers like here (SHH Pendulum).”
The duality of Credor is as enchanting as it is perplexing. On one hand, we have creations as intricate and sublime as the Fugaku of 2016 which featured delicate engraving on top of its status as Seiko’s very first tourbillon watch. On the other hand, Credor proposes utter modesty as seen in the Eichi of 2008, or its successor, the Eichi II of 2014. For the 50th anniversary of Credor, the Japanese sensibility and attention to detail is once again celebrated by a special edition of the Eichi II. The GBLT996 watch is limited to 30 pieces, combining the classical opulence of yellow gold with a deep blue porcelain dial.
Porcelain dials are an art form by itself. At the first glance, a porcelain dial may seem similar to an enamel one. However, there is a fundamental difference as explained by porcelain painter Tetsuo Oguchi of Micro Artist Studio – the small unit of craftsmen responsible for the development of Credor watches. While both may appear to have glass-like surface, a porcelain dial is created on a ceramic base whereas an enamel dial would have used a metal one. Therefore, a porcelain dial can go through firing at a higher temperature as there is no metal to be deformed by heat. This is the reason why Credor chose porcelain over enamel despite the latter having been considered first.
Describing the particulars of his work, Oguchi proudly says, “The charm of porcelain dials is in the glaze. We can choose to make it in a color that will give our dials great originality. Also, once fired at such a high temperature, porcelain dials will not age with time. The color is settled, as if we have stopped time. And this is the reason why you can see porcelain dials in high-class watches.”
Outward aesthetics aside, the timekeeping performance of the 39 mm watch is ensured by the hand-winding Spring Drive Caliber 7R14 with a power reserve of 60 hours. It benefits from the superior accuracy of the Spring Drive technology developed over a period of 22 years by an engineer at the Seiko Epson Shiojiri Factory in Nagano, where the Micro Artist Studio is located. Although he has since passed, colleagues and younger generations of engineers and watchmakers continue to create new movements based on the foundation he has laid.
One such developer is Masatoshi Moteki who joined the company in 1993 and took part in the last five years of the original Spring Drive development from 1994 to 1999. Today, the movement designer is also the supervisor for the Micro Artist Studio. He can be credited for the development of the Spring Drive Sonnerie, the Spring Drive Minute Repeater and the Spring Drive 8 Days movements in 2006, 2011 and 2016, respectively.
“The Micro Artist Studio was founded in 2000 to perpetuate watchmaking techniques for the next generation of people. We focus on training the best craftsmen. Initially, there were only two of us. We have expanded but some colleagues have reached retirement age. We are about 10 people today. Newcomers are trained on the job. We observe how our trainees perform, check on their work and offer our advice so they can improve. This is true for both mechanical and artistic branches of the work,” explains Moteki who still wears on a daily basis the very first Spring Drive watch he bought with his own money in 1999.
