จากนาฬิกาพกรุ่นประวัติศาสตร์สู่นาฬิกาข้อมือ RD#4 ใหม่ของ Audemars Piguet

นี่คือครั้งที่ 3 หรือ 4 แล้วในรอบเวลาไม่กี่ปีที่เราไปสะดุดตานาฬิกาอะไรสักเรือนหนึ่งในพิพิธภัณฑ์ แล้วหลังจากนั้นไม่กี่เดือนก็มีการเปิดตัวนาฬิการุ่นใหม่ที่ออกแบบตามรุ่นดั้งเดิมนั้น หรือว่ามีอะไรเกี่ยวข้องกันในทางใดทางหนึ่ง เรือนล่าสุดที่เป็นเช่นนี้ไม่ได้อยู่ในมุมตู้ที่ไม่มีใครสนใจเหมือนเรือนก่อนๆ ที่เราเจอมา แต่เป็นนาฬิกาที่ตั้งโชว์อยู่ใจกลางพิพิธภัณฑ์ Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet เลยทีเดียว นาฬิกาเรือนดังกล่าวเป็นนาฬิกาพกที่มีชื่อว่า Universelle ซึ่งผลิตเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1899 ประกอบด้วยชิ้นส่วน 1,168 ชิ้นที่ทำให้นาฬิกาเรือนนั้นมีคอมพลิเคชั่นมากถึง 19 รายการด้วยกัน
แน่นอนว่าเราไม่ทราบว่าอีกเพียงแค่ 6 เดือนหลังจากการไปเยือนพิพิธภัณฑ์ของเราในครั้งนั้น Audemars Piguet จะเปิดตัวนาฬิกา Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4 ให้เป็นนาฬิกาข้อมือแบบขึ้นลานอัตโนมัติระดับอัลตร้าคอมพลิเคทรุ่นแรกของคอลเลคชั่นนี้ นับจำนวนคอมพลิเคชั่นต่างๆ ได้ 23 คอมพลิเคชั่นซึ่งรวมถึงแกรนด์ซอนเนอรี มินิทรีพีทเตอร์ เพอร์เพทชวลคาเลนดาร์ สปลิทเซ็กเกินด์ฟลายแบ็คโครโนกราฟ และ ฟลายอิ้งตูร์บิยอง ซึ่งทั้งหมดนี้บรรจุอยู่ในเครื่องรุ่นคาลิเบอร์ 1000 อันประกอบด้วยชิ้นส่วนจำนวนทั้งสิ้น 1,140 ชิ้น
และแม้ว่านาฬิกาจะมีฟังก์ชั่นมากมายแต่ในเรื่องการแสดงค่านั้นทุกอย่างยังคงชัดเจน บนหน้าปัดมีวงวงทดนาทีและชั่วโมงของระบบฟลายแบ็คโครโนกราฟ พร้อมด้วยหน้าต่างอีกทั้งหมด 5 ช่องสำหรับกลไกปฏิทิน ได้แก่ หน้าต่างแสดงค่าวันที่ด้วยตัวเลขขนาดใหญ่ หน้าต่างแสดงค่าวัน หน้าต่างแสดงค่าเดือน หน้าต่างแสดงค่าตัวเลขสองหลักสุดท้ายของปี และหน้าต่างแสดงสถานะข้างขึ้นข้างแรมของดวงจันทร์ที่มีความเที่ยงตรงสูงถึงระดับที่จะต้องปรับตั้งชดเชยความคลาดเคลื่อนเพียงแค่ครั้งเดียวในรอบเวลา 122 ปี ทางด้านขวาของตัวเรือนมีปุ่มกดที่ใช้ควบคุมการทำงานของระบบโครโนกราฟตามสไตล์ ส่วนทางด้านซ้ายนั้นจะมีปุ่มกดขนาดเล็กสำหรับการสั่งให้กลไกมินิทรีพีทเตอร์ทำงาน และสำหรับการปรับตั้งวันและมูนเฟสตามลำดับ
นี่คือผลงานที่ใช้เวลาในการพัฒนานานถึง 7 ปี เริ่มตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 2016 หรือก่อนที่จะมีการเปิตตัวคอลเลคชั่น Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet เสียอีก โจทย์สำคัญของทางแบรนด์ในเวลานั้นก็คือการสร้างนาฬิกาที่มีความซับซ้อนในระดับที่สูงมากแต่ยังคงบางพอให้สวมใส่บนข้อมือในชีวิตประจำวันได้ แล้ว Audemars Piguet ก็สามารถทำได้จริงโดยได้ทุกอย่างที่ต้องการอยู่ในตัวเรือนขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลาง 42 มม. และหนา 15.55 มม. ทั้งนี้ ด้วยการใช้นวัตกรรมที่คิดค้นได้ในนาฬิกา RD รุ่นก่อนๆ เช่น เทคโนโลยีซุปเปอร์ซอนเนอรีจากนาฬิกา RD#1 เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2015 เครื่องนาฬิกาเพอร์เพทชวลคาเลนดาร์แบบอัลตร้าธินจากนาฬิกา RD#2 เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2018 และออสซิเลเตอร์แบบแอมปลิจูดสูงจากนาฬิกา RD#3 เมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2022
ขณะนี้ Audemars Piguet มีการผลิต RD#4 ทั้งหมด 4 เวอร์ชั่นด้วยกัน ได้แก่ รุ่นตัวเรือนไวท์โกลด์กับหน้าปัดสีดำ รุ่นตัวเรือนไวท์โกลด์กับหน้าปัดสีเบจ รุ่นตัวเรือนไวท์โกลด์กับหน้าปัดสเกเลตั้น และ รุ่นตัวเรือนพิงค์โกลด์กับหน้าปัดสเกเลตั้น ทุกรุ่นสวมใส่ด้วยสายหนังจระเข้สีดำและบานพับ AP วัสดุทองสีเดียวกันกับตัวเรือน ในกล่องยังมีสายหนังลูกวัวเคลือบยางสีดำให้มาอีกเส้นหนึ่งด้วยเพื่อสับเปลี่ยนใช้ในช่วงหน้าฝนหรือเมื่อสภาพอากาศไม่เอื้ออำนวยต่อการใส่นาฬิกาสายหนังจระเข้

We wish we had as good a luck with winning the lotteries, Thai or Swiss ones. For the third or fourth time in a few years, we took notice of a particular exhibit at a watch museum only to witness the unveiling of a new timepiece, created in its fashion or otherwise linked to it, within a subsequent few months. This time, it did not involve an obscure exhibit but the Universelle pocket watch that was presented as the centrepiece when we visited the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet in September last year. The historic pocket watch was created in 1899 with 1,168 parts that form 19 complications.
Of course, we had no idea that a major development in tribute to it was going to be launched six months later. The Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4 marks the first ultra-complicated, selfwinding wristwatch within the collection. It counts the grand sonnerie, minute repeater, perpetual calendar, split-seconds flyback chronograph and flying tourbillon among its 23 complications. Its Calibre 1000 is made up of 1,140 parts.
Legibility is superb despite the convergence of so many indications. On the dial of this watch, two counters serve to show elapsed minutes and hours of the flyback chronograph function. The five windows all around are for the large date, the day of the week, the month, the last two digits of the year, and, the moon-phase display of astronomical accuracy where a manual correction is required only once in 122 years. Chronograph pushers are on the right side of the case per normal configuration. On the other side, three discreet pushers are placed for activation of the minute repeater, for the setting of the day of the week, and, for the setting of the moon-phase, respectively.
Seven years went into the development of this project which started in 2016, before the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection itself was revealed to the world. The idea was to have a highly complicated watch that is still slim enough for everyday wear, and the manufacture managed to do exactly that with the diameter of 42 mm and the thickness of 15.55 mm for the case. The feat is made possible through incorporation of innovations from three previous RD watches, namely, the Supersonnerie technology of the RD#1 in 2015, the ultra-thin perpetual calendar movement from the RD#2 in 2018, and the oscillator with increased amplitude of the RD#3 in 2022.
Four versions of the RD#4 are proposed: white gold case with black dial, white gold case with beige dial, white gold case with skeleton dial, and pink gold case with skeleton dial. All models are worn on a black alligator strap with an AP folding clasp in the same gold colour as the case. An additional black textured rubber-coated calfskin strap is included in the set for when the weather calls for it.
