The Hermès Arceau L’heure de la lune flaunts a unique and surprising display of the moon phase

The timepieces we see from Hermès are usually imbued with interesting details, artistic elements or a sheer sense of fun. Most recently, they have given their touch of difference to the classical moon phase function, transforming it into something highly unexpected and equally pleasing.
Transcending the modus operandi of conventional moon phase watches, the Hermès Arceau L’heure de la lune foregoes with the typical setup of a rotating disc and a window where the moon appears from the left and exits to the right. That is the representation of what people see of the moon if they are in the northern hemisphere where the right side of the moon is lit first and the left side last. The Hermès Arceau L’heure de la lune is more inclusive by showing what the moon would look like at a given time, regardless of the geographical location of the watch owner.
This 43 mm white gold watch has two representations of the moon at the top and the bottom of the aventurine glass dial with all the glittering stars of the night. A module was specifically developed for this watch and operates on top of the manufacture self-winding H1837 movement. It features a pair of planetary dials for the time and the date which travel across these moons to hide or reveal them as the lunar month progresses, creating a realistic view for residents of both the northern and the southern hemispheres. This outside-the-box approach is as remarkable as it is memorable. Apparently, the maison has further elevated their status as a serious watchmaker. The Hermès Arceau L’heure de la lune is produced in two versions of 100 pieces each. You can have it with the aventurine glass dial and a dark blue alligator leather strap or with the meteorite dial and a graphite grey alligator leather strap.
