หากจะบอกว่า World of Watches Thailand เติบโตเคียงข้างนาฬิกา Bulgari Octo Finissimo มาโดยตลอดก็คงจะไม่ได้เป็นการกล่าวเกินจริงแต่อย่างใด เพราะนิตยสารของเราก่อตั้งในประเทศไทยเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2014 และเป็นปีเดียวกันกับที่นาฬิการุ่น Octo Finissimo Tourbillon ทำสถิติโลกในการเป็นนาฬิกากลไกฟลายอิ้งตูร์บิยองเครื่องไขลานที่บางที่สุดในโลกพอดี และหลังจากนั้น Octo Finissimo ก็ยังคงทำลายสถิติโลกในแง่ของความบางอีกรวม 7 รุ่น เราจึงขอมอบบทความจากปกบทความนี้ให้กับตำนานแห่งความเป็นเลิศในด้านกลไกและสุนทรียศาสตร์ในรูปทรงแปดเหลี่ยมรุ่นนี้
Octo Finissimo เป็นวิวัฒนาการขั้นต่อมาของ Octo คำว่า Finissimo ที่นำมาห้อยท้ายนั้นเป็นคำในภาษาอิตาเลียนที่หมายถึง “ความละเอียดบรรจง” ซึ่งแน่นอนว่าเกิดจากความบางและความมีชั้นเชิงของเรือนเวลารุ่นนี้นั่นเอง Octo Finissimo รุ่นแรกออกสู่ตลาดในปี ค.ศ. 2012 จนเป็นที่ชื่นชอบของผู้ที่ติดตามแบรนด์ Bulgari มายาวนาน ตลอดจนนักสะสมนาฬิกาที่ไม่เคยเป็นเจ้าของ Bulgari มาก่อนอีกจำนวนหนึ่ง แต่กระแสของ Octo Finissimo เริ่มโหมแรงจริงๆ ในปี ค.ศ. 2014 เมื่อมีการทำลายสถิติโลกในแง่ของความบางตามที่กล่าวถึงข้างต้น จากนั้นเพียง 2 ปีให้หลัง Bulgari ก็ทำสิ่งที่เป็นไปไม่ได้ให้เป็นไปได้อีกครั้งด้วยการเปิดตัว Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater ให้เป็นนาฬิกามินิทรีพีทเตอร์เครื่องไขลานที่บางที่สุดในโลก
สำหรับผู้ซื้อนาฬิกาโดยทั่วไปแล้วนาฬิการุ่นที่ทำให้ตลาดหันมามอง Octo Finissimo มากที่สุดเห็นจะต้องเป็น Octo Finissimo Automatic ซึ่งออกมาในปี ค.ศ. 2017 ในฐานะนาฬิกาเครื่องออโต้ที่บางที่สุดในโลก เครื่องนาฬิกามีกลไกไมโครโรเตอร์จึงบางเพียง 2.23 มม. และบรรจุอยู่ในตัวเรือนนาฬิกาที่บางเพียงแค่ 5.15 มม. เท่านั้น จากนั้น Bulgari ก็เดินหน้าทุบสถิติโลกอย่างต่อเนื่องทุกปีด้วยนาฬิกา Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic ในปี ค.ศ. 2018 นาฬิกา Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic ในปี ค.ศ. 2019 นาฬิกา Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Automatic ในปี ค.ศ. 2020 และนาฬิกา Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar Automatic ในปี ค.ศ. 2021
นาฬิกาที่ทำลายสถิติโลกเหล่านี้ทุกรุ่นได้รับการเปิดตัวด้วยตัวเรือนไทเทเนียมพ่นทรายและสายนาฬิกาวัสดุเดียวกันทั้งหมดจนเหมือนกับว่าเป็นธรรมเนียมสำหรับไลน์ Octo Finissimo ไปโดยปริยาย และเมื่อดูรวมๆ แล้วก็จะเห็นภาพว่า Octo Finissimo นี้เป็นการหลอมรวมงานประดิษฐ์นาฬิกาแบบสวิสเข้ากับดีไซน์ที่สง่างามตามแบบฉบับอิตาเลียนที่ลงตัวที่สุด
แล้วในปีนี้ Bulgari ยังก้าวไปเกินกว่าทุกความคาดหมายของวงการด้วยการเผยโฉม Octo Finissimo Ultra นาฬิกาลิมิเต็ดเอดิชั่นจำนวน 10 เรือนที่ขายหมดทันทีในฐานะนาฬิกาที่บางที่สุดในโลกด้วยความหนาเพียงแค่ 1.80 มม. เมื่อวัดจากฝาหลังจนถึงแซฟไฟร์คริสตอล ถือเป็นการทำลายสถิติโลกในแง่ของความบางเป็นครั้งที่ 8 ของ Bulgari
สำหรับ Octo Finissimo Ultra รุ่นนี้ Bulgari จำเป็นต้องใช้ความหลักแหลมในการออกแบบและจัดวางชิ้นส่วนต่างๆ ของเครื่องนาฬิกาเสียใหม่ ที่เห็นได้เด่นชัดที่สุดคือแบเรลที่ตำแหน่งด้านบนซ้ายซึ่งมีขนาดใหญ่พอสมควรเพื่อให้สามารถเก็บกำลังลานสำรองได้ 50 ชั่วโมงแม้ว่าตัวเองจะบางมากก็ตาม ถัดมาทางขวาเป็นหน้าปัดที่ทำหน้าที่บอกชั่วโมงและหน้าปัดที่ทำหน้าที่บอกนาทีตามลำดับ ชิ้นส่วนทั้งหมดติดตั้งอยู่บนแผ่นฝาหลังที่ผลิตจากทังสเตนคาร์ไบด์และทำหน้าที่เป็นเมนเพลทของเครื่องไปในตัว และด้วยความบางแบบสุดพิเศษนี้ทำให้ Bulgari ไม่สามารถติดตั้งเม็ดมะยมในรูปแบบปกติได้จนต้องออกแบบให้มีเม็ดมะยมแนวนอนสองเม็ดซ่อนอยู่ทางด้านซ้ายและขวาของฝาหลังเพื่อให้เจ้าของนาฬิกาใช้ไขลานนาฬิกาและตั้งเวลา
World of Watches Thailand โชคดีจริงๆ ที่ได้เห็นเรือนโปรโตไทป์ของนาฬิการุ่นนี้ขณะที่ไปเยือนแผนกประดิษฐ์นาฬิกาชั้นสูงของ Bulgari ที่เมืองเนอชาแตลเพื่อทำธุระเรื่องอื่นที่ไม่เกี่ยวข้อง เราบอกได้เลยว่าเมื่อได้จับเรือนจริงแล้วความรู้สึกจะเปลี่ยนจากที่เห็นในภาพทันที ความมั่นใจจะมา เพราะว่านาฬิกา Octo Finissimo Ultra รุ่นนี้ดูแข็งแรงกว่าที่คิดอยู่ก่อนหน้า เครื่องนาฬิกาก็ไม่ได้บอบบางอะไรเลยเพราะว่าเราสามารถหมุนเม็ดมะยมเพื่อไขลานและตั้งเวลาได้ในจังหวะที่เหมือนกับนาฬิกาทั่วไป ไม่ต้องยั้งมือเป็นพิเศษหรืออะไรอย่างที่กลัว ถือว่าเป็นอะไรที่น่าทึ่งมาก
ส่วนนาฬิกา Octo Finissimo รุ่นใหม่รุ่นอื่นที่ออกมาปีนี้จะเป็นการดัดแปลงรุ่นที่มีอยู่แล้วเสียมากกว่า เช่น นาฬิกา Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic ก็มีในรูปแบบตัวเรือนแพลทตินัมจากเดิมที่เปิดตัวด้วยรุ่นไทเทเนียมในปี ค.ศ. 2020 นาฬิกา Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic ซึ่งเปิดตัวด้วยรุ่นไทเทเนียมเช่นกันในปี ค.ศ. 2019 และมีรุ่นสเตนเลสสตีลตามออกมาเมื่อปีที่แล้วก็มีรุ่นสเตนเลสสตีลหน้าปัดสีใหม่คือสีเงินลายขัดแนวตั้งที่ดูเข้ากันกับลวดลายการขัดซาตินบนตัวเรือนและสายนาฬิกาพอดี สำหรับ Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater ที่เปิดตัวเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 2016 นั้นเมื่อกลับมาในครั้งนี้ก็ยังเป็นไทเทเนียมอยู่เหมือนเดิม แต่ว่าเปลี่ยนหน้าปัดเป็นสีน้ำเงินแบบด้านและใส่สายยางสีเดียวกันเพื่อให้ดูร่วมสมัยยิ่งขึ้น
สุดท้ายนี้ Bulgari ยังมีการเปิดตัวนาฬิกาลิมิเต็ดเอดิชั่นคู่ในโอกาสครบรอบ 10 ปีของคอลเลคชั่น Octo Finissimo ได้แก่ Octo Finissimo Automatic 10th Anniversary และ Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic 10th Anniversary จำนวนรุ่นละ 200 เรือน โดยมีคุณลักษณะพิเศษอยู่ที่หน้าปัดซึ่งเป็นการลอกลายมาจากภาพสเกทช์ดั้งเดิมจากปลายดินสอของคุณฟาบริซิโอ บัวนามาสซา สติกลิยานี
โลโก้ Bulgari ก็เป็นลายมือเขียนเหมือนกัน และก็ยังมีลายเส้นที่ตีขอบรอบหน้าปัดกับเส้นที่ลากผ่านศูนย์กลางหน้าปัดเหมือนเป็นลายดินสอ สำหรับในรุ่นโครโนกราฟก็จะมีอีกหนึ่งรายละเอียดสำคัญนั่นก็คือการเขียนกำกับว่าวงหน้าปัดย่อยแต่ละวงทำหน้าที่อะไรซึ่งเดิมมีปรากฏในภาพสเกทช์เท่านั้น ไอเดียสุดเก๋นี้ทำออกมาแล้วดูดีมากๆ และทำให้นาฬิกาดูมี ฟีลลิ่งเหมือนกับว่าเป็นงานศิลป์บนข้อมือ ถึงแม้จะรู้อยู่แล้วว่าลวดลายทั้งหมดบนหน้าปัดไทเทนียมสีเทานั้นผลิตด้วยเครื่องยิงเลเซอร์ ไม่ใช่ด้วยมือ
เราเชื่อมาโดยตลอดว่า Octo Finissimo เป็นนาฬิกาที่มีศักยภาพในการเติบโต และ Bulgari ก็ใช้ความพยายามอย่างสม่ำเสมอในการปั้นให้คอลเลคชั่นเรือนเวลาอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์นี้มีอนาคตที่สวยงาม หากคุณผู้อ่านมีโอกาสผ่านไปบูติคของ Bulgari แล้วไม่มีคิวอยู่ข้างหน้าก็ขอให้ลองแวะเข้าไปชม ไปลองทาบบนข้อมือ แล้วคุณจะสัมผัสได้ทันทีว่า Octo Finissimo มีอะไรให้ค้นหาอีกมาก ทั้งในมิติที่จับต้องได้และมิติที่เป็นความรู้สึกเพียวๆ ก็ตาม

World of Watches Thailand recounts the record-breaking tradition of Bulgari Octo Finissimo watches.

You could say that World of Watches Thailand has been growing, maturing and succeeding alongside the Bulgari Octo Finissimo watches. Our publication was established in 2014 – the very same year when the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon shattered a world record for being the thinnest hand-winding flying tourbillon watch. The line of ultra slim watches has broken seven more world records since, and this cover story is dedicated to their saga of mechanical and aesthetic perfection.
Octo Finissimo is a contemporary evolution of the Octo collection – the Finissimo suffix is Italian for “refinement”, denoting the slimness and sublimity of the series. It was first unveiled in 2012 to the delight of long-time Bulgari followers and watch collectors who were new to the brand. However, as stated above, it was in 2014 that the technical prowess of the Octo Finissimo became clear. Only two years later, Bulgari did the impossible again by presenting the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater as the thinnest hand-winding minute repeater in the world.
For the majority of watch buyers, the Octo Finissimo Automatic represented the most relevant introduction in 2017 – it became the world’s thinnest self-winding watch with a 2.23 mm micro rotor movement inside a 5.15 mm thick case. Since then, Bulgari continued with the record-breaking tradition every year with the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic in 2018, the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic in 2019, the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Automatic in 2020 and the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar Automatic in 2021.
All of these world-record breaking watches premiered first and foremost in a sandblasted titanium case and on a matching bracelet, making it a stylistic code of sorts for the line. All things considered, one can say that the Octo Finissimo marks the perfect blend of Swiss watchmaking and Italian elegance.
This year, Bulgari went above and beyond all expectations with the delivery of our cover watch: the Octo Finissimo Ultra. Limited to only 10 pieces that sold out almost instantly, it was presented as the world’s thinnest watch at a thickness of only 1.80 mm from the caseback to the sapphire crystal. It secures the eighth world record for Bulgari in this ongoing saga of development.
For the Octo Finissimo Ultra, Bulgari mustered a considerable amount of creativity with how the various movement components are designed and placed. Most notable would be the larger diameter of the barrel on the top left to store a power reserve of 50 hours, despite the slimness. Two dials are found on the right hand side for the indication of the hour and the minute, respectively. These are all placed upon the tungsten carbide caseback which doubles as the mainplate for the movement. The extreme slimness also ruled out the use of a regular crown. So, on the Octo Finissimo Ultra, two horizontal crowns are placed on each side of the caseback for the owner to wind the watch or to set the time.
World of Watches Thailand was very fortunate to have handled a prototype piece by chance at the Haute Horlogerie Department of Bulgar in Neuchâtel when we made a visit, albeit for another reason. It was an enlightening moment indeed to see that the watch feels more robust than the meagre figure suggests. The movement itself is also not fragile at all. One could manipulate the crowns at a regular pace for both winding and time-setting without having to worry about damaging the movement in any way. It was just remarkable.
Other Octo Finissimo novelties introduced this year are alterations of existing models. For example, the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic is now available in a platinum case, whereas it premiered in titanium in 2020. The Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic already had a stainless steel version last year, following the titanium original in 2019. It is now joined by a new variation with a monochromic brushed silver dial that goes very well with the satin polish of the case and bracelet. Meanwhile, the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater of 2016 is presented once more in titanium but with a matte blue dial and a blue rubber strap for an even more contemporary look.
Lastly, for the 10th anniversary of the Octo Finissimo collection, Bulgari created two special editions of the Octo Finissimo Automatic and the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic. The amount of production is 200 units each. Outstandingly, their dials take after the original pencil sketches drawn by none other than Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani. Instead of the regular face with clean-cut markers and numerals, the matte grey sandblasted titanium dial of these special edition timepieces is laser engraved with pencil details, as seen in the original sketch by Bulgari’s Product Creation Executive Director.
Notably, the Bulgari logo, border lines on the perimeter and crosshair lines in the centre appear in handwritten style. On the chronograph model, legend markers denote the purpose of each subdial as well. It is in fact a simple idea that is masterfully executed to give the watches a relaxed vibe.
We have always believed that the Octo Finissimo is a force to be reckoned with. And thanks to the consistent efforts of Bulgari, the future is ensured for these delightful timepieces with the unmistakable design.
