Bangkok Independent Watchmaking Exhibition งานแสดงนาฬิกาแบรนด์อิสระที่น่าจับตามอง

งานนาฬิกาใหญ่ๆ แบบที่ถูกใจทุกคนก็มีกันไปแล้วในปีนี้หรือในปีก่อนๆ ดังนั้นก็ถึงเวลาของงานนาฬิกาที่เอาใจคนเฉพาะกลุ่มบ้างในนาม Bangkok Independent Watchmaking Exhibition ซึ่งจัดเป็นเวลา 5 วันที่ Gaysorn Village ชั้นจีด้วยความร่วมมือระหว่าง Art of Time การท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทยและตัวห้างเอง
สำหรับการจัดงานในปีแรกนี้มีแบรนด์นาฬิกาอิสระเข้าร่วมจำนวน 18 แบรนด์ หลายชื่อก็คุ้นเคยกันอยู่แล้วอย่าง Christophe Claret หรือ Romain Gauthier หรือบ้างก็อาจยังไม่คุ้นสำหรับคนไทย เช่น Cyrus, Czapek หรือ Schwarz-Etienne บางแบรนด์มีแวะเวียนมาเมืองไทยด้วยตนเองเป็นครั้งคราวอย่าง Manufacture Royale และบางแบรนด์ก็มีจุดขายเป็นทางการในประเทศไทยอยู่แล้ว อาทิ Azimuth, Perrelet และ HYT
BIWE เป็นงานง่ายๆ ไม่ได้จัดบูธใหญ่โตอะไร ทุกแบรนด์มีตู้โชว์หนึ่งตู้และโต๊ะหนึ่งตัวไว้ให้หยิบนาฬิกาออกมายืนคุยกับผู้สนใจที่จะแวะเวียนมาชมแบบเป็นกันเองและไม่รู้สึกกดดัน จะมีที่ชิ้นโตจนต้องแยกไปตั้งไว้ต่างหากก็คือนาฬิกาตั้งโต๊ะ Matthias Naeschke จากเยอรมนีซึ่งคุณเซบาสเตียน แนชเกอผู้เป็นลูกชายบินมานำเสนอนาฬิกาให้เราได้รู้จักด้วยตนเอง
“ช่างนาฬิกาอิสระ” เป็นชื่อที่ไม่มีนิยามตายตัว ถ้าจะให้ตีกรอบจริงๆ ก็ต้องบอกว่าวลีนี้หมายถึงแบรนด์ที่ไม่ได้อยู่ในเครือใหญ่ ส่วนมากเป็นบริษัทหรือกิจการขนาดเล็กที่มีอิสระในการทำอะไรก็ได้ตามใจตนเองคิด ไม่ว่าจะเป็นในเรื่องของกลไกหรือชั้นเชิงทางศิลปะ จำนวนการผลิตก็จะต่ำกว่าแบรนด์ใหญ่อยู่มากด้วย ดังนั้นเราจึงไม่ค่อยเห็นนาฬิกาของเขาหรือไม่เห็นโฆษณาของเขา แต่แบรนด์แนวนี้ก็มีอยู่ในวงการมาโดยตลอด เหมือนเป็นสีสันที่รอคอยการค้นพบ ดังนั้นเราจึงอยากเชิญชวนให้คุณได้ไปทำความรู้จักกับแบรนด์เหล่านี้ด้วยตนเองที่ Gaysorn Village
ไปแล้วจะได้เจอใครบ้าง ได้เจอหลายคนเลย อย่างเมื่อวานเราได้เจอคุณสเตฟาน คูโดเกอซึ่งเล่าให้เราฟังว่าเขาเริ่มธุรกิจด้วยการผลิตนาฬิกาแนวแกะสลักแบบสเกเลตั้นก่อนที่จะหันมาทำนาฬิกาแนวเรียบที่มีเครื่องสไตล์โบราณเหมือนนาฬิกาพกอายุราว 150 ปีบ้าง เมื่อเดินไปอีกมุมหนึ่งของงานก็จะเจอกับคุณลุโดวิค บัลลูอาด์ซึ่งพร้อมสาธิตและให้คุณสัมผัสกับนาฬิการุ่น Upside Down และ Half Time ซึ่งบอกเวลาด้วยวิธีแปลกๆ เหมือนเล่นกล
เราเองได้เจอคุณพิม โคสลากซึ่งเป็นซีอีโอและผู้ร่วมก่อตั้ง Atelier de Monaco ด้วยโดยในครั้งนี้เขามาพร้อมกับนาฬิการุ่นพิเศษที่มีหน้าปัดรูปวัดอรุณที่สร้างสรรค์ด้วยเทคนิคเอนาเมลดูสวยงาม โดยรวมแล้วจำไม่ได้เลยว่าเราได้เจอแบรนด์อิสระจำนวนมากเท่านี้ที่กรุงเทพเมื่อใด น่าจะเกิน 10 ปีมาแล้ว ดังนั้นช่วงเวลาสองชั่วโมงที่เราใช้เดินวนไปมาอยู่ในงานนี้จึงรู้สึกอบอุ่นอย่างบอกไม่ถูกที่ได้เจอเพื่อนเก่าและรู้จักกับผู้คนใหม่ๆ ในเวลาเดียวกัน ถ้าคุณคิดว่าคุณสนใจนาฬิกานอกกระแส Bangkok Independent Watchmaking Exhibition นี้ถือเป็นงานที่มาแล้วไม่เสียเวลาจริงๆ งานนี้จัดถึงวันอาทิตย์ที่ 8 กันยายนนี้เท่านั้น ถ้าสนใจต้องรีบไปครับ

We have had big watch fairs that appealed to the mass. And now, thanks to Art of Time, Tourism Authority of Thailand and Gaysorn, we are offered a 5-day Bangkok Independent Watchmaking Exhibition which proposes something entirely different on the G floor of Gaysorn Village.
This premiere edition attracted the interest of 18 independent watchmaking brands like Christophe Claret, Cyrus, Czapek, Romain Gauthier and Schwarz-Etienne. Other participants include brands who visit Thailand from time to time like Manufacture Royale or those with formal sales locations in Thailand like Azimuth, Perrelet and HYT.
There are no fancy booths, in case you are wondering, just one showcase for each brand and a table next to it. The simple setup applies to all brands equally, with the exception of perhaps German clockmaking brand Matthias Naeschke whose impressive clocks are shown separately by the founder’s son Sebastian Naeschke.
Independent watchmaking is a term with no conclusive definition. In the strictest sense of the word, it should refer to brands not under ownership of large conglomerates. Many of them are a small operation with the freedom to express their mechanical or artistic creativity. Their production volume is also low by comparison. That is why you do not see much about them in terms of retail and communication, but they have always been around, waiting to be discovered. So, do go to Gaysorn Village this weekend to see what this is all about in a friendly, no pressure setting.
Stefan Kudoke, for example, will share with you the difference between his fanciful skeletonised watches and the classical ones whose movement is inspired by century-old pocket watches. On another corner of the fair, Ludovic Ballouard himself is ready to show and let you play with the magic of his Upside Down watch where only the current hour is shown upright or the Half Time watch with two switching rings forming the current hour number at the top of the dial. We are happy to meet also a dear friend Pim Koeslag, CEO and co-founder of Atelier de Monaco, who presented to us a special charity auction watch with an enamel dial depicting the Temple of Dawn.
The last time we saw this number of independent watchmakers in Bangkok was over 10 years ago. Therefore, the two hours we spent there was heart-warming in a way. Bangkok Independent Watchmaking Exhibition runs only until Sunday 8 September 2019 at Gaysorn Village.
