AP ช็อควงการด้วยนาฬิกา Royal Oak Concept “Black Panther” Flying Tourbillon จำนวน 250 เรือน

วงการนาฬิการู้จักเอาตัวเองไปผูกไว้กับป๊อปคัลเจอร์มาแต่ไหนแต่ไรแล้ว ขนาดเราไม่ได้สืบค้นอย่างจริงจังก็ยังได้รับข้อมูลจาก Audemars Piguet ว่าแบรนด์นาฬิกา Ingersoll เริ่มจับมือกับบริษัท Walt Disney เพื่อออกนาฬิกา Mickey Mouse ตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1933 และตัว Audemars Piguet เองก็มีการทำงานร่วมกับแวดวงฮอลลีวู๊ดตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1999 เมื่ออาร์โนลด์ ชวาเซนเนกเกอร์มาขอให้ผลิตนาฬิกา Royal Oak Offshore รุ่นพิเศษเพื่อนำไปใช้ในภาพยนตร์เรื่อง End of Days ในภายหลัง Audemars Piguet จึงมีการร่วมงานกับเซเลบริตี้และนักกีฬาชื่อดังอีกมากมาย และในเวลานี้ก็มีการประกาศถึงความร่วมมือระยะยาวกับ Marvel Entertainment แล้วด้วย
นาฬิการุ่นแรกที่เกิดจากการจับมือกันในครั้งนี้คือ Royal Oak Concept “Black Panther” Flying Tourbillon ซึ่งเป็นลิมิเต็ดเอดิชั่นจำนวน 250 เรือน รูปทรงตัวเรือนที่ดูคมคายและล้ำสมัยของ Royal Oak Concept ดูเหมาะสมดีแล้วสำหรับความก้าวหน้าทางเทคโนโลยีของประเทศวากานดาในภาพยนตร์ แต่ตัวเรือนขนาด 42 มม. ของนาฬิการุ่นนี้ผลิตจากไทเทเนียมไม่ใช่ไวเบรเนียม และประดับด้วยขอบตัวเรือนทรงแปดเหลี่ยมผลิตจากเซรามิก
หากเป็นนาฬิการุ่นอื่น ฟลายอิ้งตูร์บิยองก็คงจะเป็นองค์ประกอบที่โดดเด่นที่สุดบนหน้าปัดไปแล้ว แต่ในครั้งนี้ต่อให้เป็นฟลายอิ้งตูร์บิยองก็ยังต้องแข่งกับรูปสามมิติของแบล็คแพนเธอร์ที่ตัดจากแผ่นไวท์โกลด์ด้วยกระบวนการซีเอ็นซี โดยต้องเว้นเนื้อที่ด้านหลังไว้ตามจุดต่างๆ ด้วยเพื่อหลบชิ้นส่วนของเครื่องนาฬิกาด้านล่าง หลังจากที่แกะลายด้วยเลเซอร์แล้วจึงเป็นกระบวนการแกะสลักและลงสีด้วยมือต่อซึ่งต่อใช้เวลานานถึง 30 ชั่วโมง โดยมีช่างแกะสลักและช่างลงสีเพียงอย่างละ 4 คนเท่านั้นที่ได้รับมอบหมายให้ทำงานทั้งหมด 250 ชิ้นนี้
ลวดลายบนบริดจ์ของเครื่องที่อยู่ด้านหลังรูปแบล็คแพนเธอร์นี้คือเกิดจากการตกแต่งพื้นผิวด้วยเลเซอร์แล้วเคลือบเป็นสีดำกับสีเทาด้วยกระบวนการพีวีดี เว้นช่องว่างไว้ให้มองเห็นแบเรลแบบเปิดที่ตำแหน่ง 10 นาฬิกาซึ่งทำหน้าที่เก็บพลังงานสำรอง 72 ชั่วโมงให้กับเครื่องนาฬิกาไขลานรุ่น 2965 ขอบหน้าปัดทำเป็นสีม่วงเช่นเดียวกันกับสายยางที่มากับนาฬิการุ่นนี้
การเปิดตัวนาฬิการุ่นนี้ก็มีสีสันไม่แพ้กัน เพราะลงทุนบินไปจัดอีเวนท์แบบไลฟ์กันถึงที่ฮอลลีวู๊ด และมีการจัดทำนาฬิการุ่นนี้แต่เป็นตัวเรือนไวท์โกลด์แบบพิเศษเพียงเรือนเดียวในโลกเพื่อนำขึ้นประมูลแบบออนไลน์ ผลปรากฏว่ามีนักสะสมจากหลายประเทศในโลกให้ความสนใจ และมีผู้ประมูลสองรายจากจีนและสหรัฐอาหรับเอมิเรตส์ที่ห้ำหั่นกันอย่างดุเดือดจนราคาไปจบที่ 5.2 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐ จากราคาเริ่มต้น 100,000 ดอลลาร์สหรัฐ รายได้มอบให้องค์กรเพื่อสังคม First Book และ Ashoka ในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา

The 250-piece limited edition marks the beginning of a long-term partnership.

Ever since the previous century, the watch industry knew to associate itself with the pop culture. Audemars Piguet reminded us of this, citing how Ingersoll collaborated with Walt Disney on the release of the first Mickey Mouse watch in 1933. In more modern times, the manufacture from the Vallée de Joux themselves has had a prominent Hollywood presence when, in 1999, a personalized Royal Oak Offshore was commissioned by Arnold Schwarzenegger for his movie End of Days. Audemars Piguet has collaborated with more celebrities and athletes since, including, from this month onwards, Marvel Entertainment.
The first watch to have emerged from this long-term partnership is the Royal Oak Concept “Black Panther” Flying Tourbillon: a limited edition of 250 units. Here, the inherently futuristic and angular design of the Royal Oak Concept plays very well to the technologically advanced tune of the fictional country Wakanda. This watch, measuring 42 mm in diameter, comprises a titanium case (no vibranium, sorry) and a black ceramic bezel in the iconic octagon shape.
Normally, a flying tourbillon would be the star on any dial, but in this instance it must compete with a 3D rendition of the Black Panther. The figurine is first cut from a white gold disc using the CNC process, ensuring there are appropriate recesses on the back to allow necessary space for movement components. Subsequently, the details of the hero’s suit are carved out by laser before the figurine undergoes 30 hours of further engraving and painting by hand. Only four engravers and four painters are assigned to this task of creating the 250 figurines.
Black Panther poses against the backdrop of titanium bridges, laser-textured and finished with black and grey PVD coating, and the openworked barrel at 10 o’clock. A vivid purple inner bezel completes the stage, and is matched by the rubber strap. The watch’s Calibre 2965 is kept wound by hand for a period of 72 hours at a time.
At the time of the launch, a piece unique version of this watch in white gold was auctioned off via a live online event held from Hollywood. It was a battle among collectors from different parts of the world, with two notable ones from China and the United Arab Emirates who duked it out to the eventual amount of USD 5.2 million, from the starting price of USD 100,000. The money goes to benefit two US-based, non-profit organisations First Book and Ashoka.
