แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียว ทางเลือกใหม่ที่น่าสนใจในวงการอัญมณี

แม้แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินและแซฟไฟร์สีเขียวนั้นจะสวยงามอย่างไม่น่าเชื่อ แต่ในปัจจุบันกลับเป็นแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวหรือสีทีลที่สามารถเรียกความสนใจของผู้คนได้มากพอสมควร ด้วยการผสมผสานกันอย่างน่าทึ่งของสีน้ำเงินอันสงบนิ่งและสีเขียวซึ่งดูน่าค้นหาจนเกิดเป็นสีน้ำทะเลที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ และอาจกล่าวได้ว่าแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวนี้เป็นอัญมณีที่สมบูรณ์แบบของช่วงศตวรรษนี้อันเป็นยุคที่ผู้คนต่างพยายามค้นคว้าหาความสมดุลในชีวิตตน
แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวมีความแข็งและทนทานโดยธรรมชาติ ไม่ต่างจากแซฟไฟร์ชนิดอื่น และแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวอันหาได้ยากยิ่งนี้ไม่เคยทำให้หัวใจที่รักการผจญภัยต้องผิดหวัง เงื่อนไขสำคัญที่ทำให้แซฟไฟร์ชนิดนี้มีสีน้ำเงินอมเขียวอันสมบูรณ์แบบ คือ ต้องมีธาตุของแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินและแซฟไฟร์สีเขียวปรากฏให้เห็นอย่างสมดุล โดยไทเทเนียมและเหล็กเป็นธาตุที่ทำให้เกิดสีน้ำเงิน ส่วนธาตุเหล็กนั้นสร้างสีเขียวในแซฟไฟร์ อย่างไรก็ดี หากมีธาตุเหล็กมากกว่าไทเทเนียม แซฟไฟร์ก็จะเป็นสีเขียว
น่าสนใจที่ว่าคำว่า “teal” หรือเพิ่งถูกนำมาใช้เรียกสีน้ำเงินอมเขียวเมื่อตอนต้นศตวรรษที่ 20 นี้เอง ก่อนหน้านั้น คำว่า “teal” จะหมายถึงเป็ดยูเรเซีย (common teal หรือ Eurasian duck) ซึ่งเป็ดสายพันธุ์นี้จะมีลายริ้วสีน้ำเงินอมเขียวบริเวณรอบดวงตา กลายเป็นจุดสังเกตที่ทำให้เป็ดยูเรเซียแตกต่างจากเป็ดสายพันธุ์อื่น เมื่อมีการค้นพบแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวชื่อ “teal sapphire” จึงเป็นคำเรียกที่ติดมานับแต่นั้น
มนุษย์มีการขุดหาแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินจากแหล่งทั่วโลกอยู่แล้ว เดิมมีที่ประเทศศรีลังกา ประเทศโมซัมบิก ประเทศมาดากัสกา ประเทศเอธิโอเปีย ประเทศไนจีเรียและรัฐแคชเมียร์ ทว่าตำแหน่งและลักษณะของเหมืองขุดแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวนั้นแตกต่างออกไปโดยสิ้นเชิง เพราะแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวที่สวยงามที่สุดบางส่วนมีที่มาจากเหมืองขุดแร่หายากในประเทศออสเตรเลียซึ่งมีการดำเนินกิจการตามหลักจริยธรรมอันเหมาะสม
ความรู้สึกแรกเมื่อได้เห็นแซฟไฟร์สองสีชนิดนี้ก็คือทิวไม้สีเขียวชอุ่มที่ทอดยาวไปตามมหาสมุทรอันงดงาม ยามเมื่อสวมใส่เครื่องประดับที่มีแซฟไฟร์ชนิดนี้ก็เหมือนว่าคุณมีชิ้นส่วนเล็กๆ ส่วนหนึ่งของมหาสมุทรติดตัวคุณไปด้วย เป็นดั่งสัญลักษณ์แห่งความอนันต์ พลังและศักยภาพอันเหลือล้น และในเมื่อมหาสมุทรแห่งต่างๆ มีบุคลิกที่แตกต่างกัน แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวแต่ละเม็ดก็แตกต่างกันฉันท์นั้น โดยมีเอกลักษณ์ที่ไม่เหมือนใครและยังมีการสื่อสารกับเจ้าของด้วย
ส่วนใหญ่แล้วแซฟไฟร์ประเภทนี้ที่มีการซื้อขายกันในตลาดจะมีสัดส่วนเฉดสีระหว่างสีน้ำเงินและสีเขียวอยู่ที่ 80/20, 70/30 หรือ 60/40 ต่างกันไป แต่ถ้าจะเรียกว่าเป็นแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวที่สมบูรณ์แบบก็ควรจะเป็นแบบที่มีสัดส่วนระหว่างสีรอยัลบลูและสีดาร์คกรีน 50/50 เพื่อให้เกิดเป็นสีดาร์กไซแอนซึ่งเป็นสีที่พบได้ยากที่สุด เนื่องจากแซฟไฟร์ส่วนมากนั้นแสดงภาวะเมตาเมริสซึมหรือการมีสีที่ไปตามสภาวะแสงต่างๆ ดังนั้นคุณจึงจำเป็นต้องทดสอบอัญมณีในสภาพแสงที่ต่างกันด้วย ในบางกรณีซึ่งพบได้ยากยิ่ง เมื่อแสงเปลี่ยน แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวจะเปลี่ยนไปเป็นสีน้ำเงินหรือสีเขียวโดยสิ้นเชิง แสงที่เหมาะที่สุดต่อการเช็คแซฟไฟร์ชนิดนี้ คือแสงแดดในที่กลางแจ้งตอนเย็น หรือแสงจากธรรมชาติโดยรอบ ประกอบกับการเช็คด้วยหลอดไฟแบบฟลูออเรสเซนท์และแบบเดย์ไลท์
ส่วนการเจียระไนนั้นเป็นรายละเอียดที่ยากกว่า ก่อนอื่นเลยคือแซฟไฟร์เม็ดนั้นจะต้องเจียระไนแล้วได้สมมาตร ไม่ว่าจะเป็นทรงรี ทรงกลมหรือทรงสี่เหลี่ยม แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวทรงที่เป็นที่นิยมที่สุดก็คือทรงรี ขอให้คุณหลีกเลี่ยงแซฟไฟร์ที่มีหน้ามณีโล่งขนาดใหญ่บริเวณตรงกลางเม็ดหรือที่หน้าต่างซึ่งเป็นจุดที่ไม่มีการสะท้อนแสงจะและมีความเข้มของสีสันน้อย ถ้าเป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญก็จะมองหามุมบรรจบและการเจียระไนใต้มุมวิกฤตของอัญมณีด้วย เพราะทั้งหมดนี้เป็นปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อความงามและมูลค่าของอัญมณีเม็ดนั้นในที่สุด
หนึ่งในการใช้แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวที่เป็นที่นิยม คือ การใช้ประดับแหวนหมั้น ในช่วงศตวรรษที่ 21 นี้เราได้เห็นการเปลี่ยนแปลงสำคัญเกี่ยวกับสถิติของการเลือกซื้อแหวนหมั้น เนื่องจากเพชรนั้นไม่ได้เป็นตัวเลือกแรกในหมู่คนรุ่นใหม่อีกต่อไป แซฟไฟร์ได้กลายเป็นอัญมณีชนิดแรกๆ ที่คนเลือกใช้ในแหวนหมั้น และงานวิจัยของเรายังพบอีกด้วยว่าร้อยละ 35 ของสุภาพสตรีที่อยากได้แซฟไฟร์เป็นอัญมณีเม็ดหลักนั้นจะอยากได้แซฟไฟร์ที่มีสีพิเศษ โดยที่แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวก็เป็นหนึ่งในตัวเลือกสำคัญด้วย

เมื่อเปรียบเทียบแซฟไฟร์สีต่างๆ ที่มีขนาดและคุณภาพที่ใกล้เคียงกัน แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวอาจมีราคาถูกกว่าแซฟไฟร์สีรอยัลบลูหรือสีคอร์นฟลาวเวอร์บลูอยู่มาก ทางด้านเพชรก็มีแบบสีน้ำเงินอมเขียวเช่นกัน แต่เพชรจะมีสีเช่นนั้นได้ก็เพราะได้รับรังสี อัญมณีตามธรรมชาติอื่นๆ ที่ดูคล้ายกับแซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวก็คือทูร์มาลีนสีน้ำเงินอมเขียวจากแหมืองแร่แห่งใหม่ๆ ในประเทศคองโก ทวีปแอฟริกา แต่ทูร์มาลีนสีน้ำเงินอมเขียวนั้นไม่แข็งเหมือนกับแซฟไฟร์ซึ่งจัดได้ว่าเป็นอัญมณีที่มีความแข็งสูงสุดชนิดหนึ่งในโลก ดังนั้น แซฟไฟร์สีน้ำเงินอมเขียวจึงมีความทนทานมากกว่าและเหมาะสำหรับการใช้ในแหวนหมั้นมากกว่าด้วย

While blue and green sapphires are incredibly beautiful, in recent times, teal or blue-green sapphires have stolen the show. The unique marine hue, which is a fascinating combination of serene blue and mysterious green, is the perfect gemstone for the current century as people are always looking to strike the perfect balance in their lives.
Inherently tough and durable as are all sapphires, this rare colour formation can never fail to disappoint an adventurous heart. In order for these sapphires to be in its perfect teal colour they have must have a perfect of trace elements of a blue sapphire and a green sapphire. The trace elements titanium and iron cause the colour of blue sapphire and the trace element iron cause the colour of green sapphires. However, if there is a more iron then titanium – it can cause it to be a green sapphire.
Interestingly, “teal” was termed a colour only at the beginning of the 20th century. Before that, it referred to the common teal, which is basically a Eurasian duck. These Eurasian teal ducks have a characteristic bluish green stripe around their eye, which segregates it from other species. Once loose teal sapphires were discovered with their dark cyan hue, the term “teal sapphires” stuck naturally.
Beautiful blue sapphires have been mined all over the world. Traditionally they have been mined in Sri Lanka, Mozambique, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Kashmir. However, for teal sapphires, the location and specifics of the mines are completely different. Some of the most exquisite blue green sapphires come from the rare and ethical gemstone mines in Australia.
The first impression of the green and blue bi-colour sapphire is that of the green trees along the breath-taking ocean. Imagine carrying a piece of the ocean with you, a symbol of infinity, power and tremendous potential. No ocean is the same which is why we never see any beach empty. In the same way, teal sapphires are never the same. Every piece is unique and it talks to the wearer.
Most of these stones in the market have an 80/20, a 70/30 or even a 60/40 ratio of different shades of blue and green. For the perfect teal coloured stone, look for a 50/50 ratio of royal blue and dark green, making a dark cyan – the rarest of all the colour combinations. Since most of these stones exhibit metamerism (the ability to look like a different colour in different lights), you have to examine the stones in different lighting conditions. In some very rare cases, when the light changes, the teal sapphire changes to a completely blue or green colour. The best light to check it out in is outdoor evening light or in ambient natural light, along with additional checks in fluorescent or daylight.
The cut is a tricky aspect. The rule of thumb is to be sure for symmetry. No matter what the shape of your teal sapphire is, be it oval, round or square, it should be symmetrical and polished. The most common is the oval cut. Steer clear of those with large clear spaces in the middle of the stone called “windows” where light does not bounce off and there is low activity. An expert will also look out for meet angle and the cut below the critical angle of the stone – all determinants of beauty and, hence, the value of the stone.
One popular use for teal sapphire is in engagement rings. The 21st century has seen a major change in engagement ring statistics. Diamonds are no longer the go-to stone for most youngsters. Interestingly, sapphires have become the front runners as the stone of choice for engagement rings. And, from our front-end research, 35% of women who want sapphires as their centre stone for their engagement ring want a unique colour and they see teal sapphires as a great possibility.
While it is a close split bid between blue sapphires and teal sapphires, the latter is becoming increasing popular because of its unique, one-of-a-kind colour. The beautiful blend of blue and green, which is unique to each stone is a hard score to match. Gorgeous in themselves, they can be set in a simple band with diamonds around to showcase their pure, unadulterated beauty, or set with other stones to be a total knockout!
For a comparable size and quality, teal sapphires can cost considerably less than a royal blue or cornflower blue sapphire. Teal diamonds are the next alternate to teal sapphires but most of the diamonds are radiated to get to this colour and may be comparable in terms of colour and cut. Other natural stones that look similar to teal sapphires are teal tourmalines from the new Congo mines in Africa. These teal tourmalines are soft while sapphires are one of hardest gemstones. Thus, teal sapphires are more durable and suitable as the gemstone for engagement rings.
