If you caught on that the underlying theme for Dior’s latest campaign is the celebration of females in their respective fields then you are probably half right. For her first collection as the artistic director, all eyes were on Maria Grazia Chiuri as she unveiled the brand’s ready-to-wear campaign for spring/summer 2017. This campaign stands out for several reasons but the most significant would be due to the fact that she is the first female to lead the French fashion house to new heights.dior_ss17_campaign-bell-twins

Succeeding Raf Simons is no walk in the park and Chiuri knows it all too well. This explains why her vision for the campaign is one that captures your attention in a clever and artistic way. The campaign is more than just a chance for us to see the brands ready-to-wear collection and is instead just one element of the project “The Women Behind the Lens”. Shot by French photographer Brigitte Lacombe and featuring twin models Ruth Bell, who opened Dior’s fashion show, and May Bell, the images are aesthetically bare.dior_ss17_campaign-bell-twins-4

This helps to draw the focus towards the different attitudes of each twin. Highlighting the contrasts of the women of today, the campaign displays Dior’s mix of sports agility and sensuality perfectly. The selection of the Bell twins explores the connection that women have despite their varying personalities. Thanks to a natural approach with hair and makeup by the Creative and Image Director of Dior makeup, the designs stand out perfectly. A celebrated photographer, Lacombe’s work has been featured in prestigious magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair.dior_ss17_campaign-bell-twins-3

“I am very honoured and grateful to have been chosen by Maria Grazia Chiuri to photograph her first collection for Dior. It has been a great experience working together with her on the SS 2017 campaign. Maria Grazia Chiuri is strong and direct, open and generous. She has a very clear idea about how women should be portrayed and looked at, which is a point of view that I share and understand” said photographer Lacombe. For the campaign, she had decided on the models Ruth and May, twin sisters, with a particular feminine quality: delicate and solid, and of course with a strong bond as sisters. It made it very easy for me to relate to and to portray them. The clothes are extremely beautiful, exquisite and original. I’m very happy to collaborate with Dior for the first time.”
