ชมความงามของห้องเพนท์เฮ้าส์หรูใจกลางชิคาโก้ที่ Wheeler Kearns Architects ออกแบบให้กับเจ้าของผู้เป็นนักสะสมงานศิลปะ

โปรเจคใหม่ล่าสุดโปรเจคหนึ่งของ Wheeler Kearns Architects เป็นงานตกแต่งเพนท์เฮ้าส์บนตึกสูงใจกลางชิคาโก้แบบรื้อของเก่าแล้วเริ่มใหม่หมด ห้องเพนท์เฮ้าส์แห่งนี้มีเพดานสูงถึง 11 ฟุต หันหน้าไปทางทิศใต้ และมีวิวที่มองเห็นตัวเมืองได้ 360 องศา
เจ้าของห้องเพนท์เฮ้าส์ดังกล่าวเป็นนักสะสมงานศิลป์ตัวยง ดังนั้นคอนเซปท์ในการออกแบบจึงต้องเป็นไปตามโจทย์ที่เจ้าของห้องวางไว้ว่า “เป็นบ้านที่คนที่มีศิลปะในหัวใจจะรักและภาคภูมิใจ อยู่อาศัยสะดวกสบาย และรับรองแขกผู้มาเยือนได้ด้วยความสง่างามแบบเรียบง่าย”
Wheeler Kearns Architects จึงวาดผังพื้นที่ที่เหมาะสมสำหรับเจ้าของห้องคู่นี้และสุนัขหนึ่งตัว แล้วยังรับรองญาติสนิทหรือจัดงานการกุศลที่มีจำนวนแขกไม่เกิน 75 คนได้อีกด้วย ภายในมีการตกแต่งด้วยเฟอร์นิเจอร์ งานประติมากรรมและศิลปะลักษณะอื่นๆ ตั้งแต่ยุคมิดเซนจูรีเรื่อยมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน
พื้นห้องเป็นไม้วอลนัทแบบตัดขวางเพื่อเผยลายให้เห็นเป็นตา ดูหนักแน่นและให้ความรู้สึกทนทาน ภายในห้องนั่งเล่นมีแนวตู้หนังสือและตู้โชว์ของขนาดใหญ่ที่สูงขึ้นไปเป็นลอฟท์ชั้นลอยและมีบันไดวนเดินขึ้นลง บรรยากาศโดยรวมมีกำแพงปูนประกอบกับ สแลทไม้ แผ่นโลหะแบบเจาะรู แล้วยังมีชั้นผ้าที่ลอยอยู่เพื่อช่วยดูดซับเสียงอีกด้วย
ผลงานในครั้งนี้เกิดขึ้นได้ด้วยการร่วมงานกันอย่างใกล้ชิดระหว่าง Wheeler Kearns Architects และผู้อยู่อาศัยที่ทั้งมีความรู้และยังหลงใหลในรายละเอียดของงานก่อสร้าง ทั้งยังดึงเอาแรงบันดาลใจมาจากงานของฌอง ปรูเว ปิแอร์ ชาร์โร และคุณพ่อของหนึ่งในเจ้าของห้องซึ่งเป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการซ่อมเครื่องจักร

Wheeler Kearns Architects envision the life of an art lover in the heart of Chicago.

Gutted to a shell condition for the new interventions, this Chicago high-rise was meticulously selected for Wheeler Kearns Architects’ new project, thanks to its 11 foot high ceilings, south-facing orientation, and 360 degree views of the city.
Designed for lifelong collectors, this house was conceptualised under the instruction to create a home art enthusiasts can “love, have pride in, (and) are comfortable in; (with the) ability to entertain graciously with simple elegance”.
Careful to include space for numerous pieces of mid-century-to-present-day furniture, sculptures, and other forms of art – it was important to the clients that Wheeler Kearns Architects’ draft a welcoming floor plan for the couple, their dog, immediate family, and philanthropic events for 75 people.
Showcasing non-directional end-grain walnut floor, which provides visual weight and presents a sense of durability, alongside a shelving/storage/mezzanine loft and stair, doors and jamb-liners, plus plastered perimeter walls, perforated metal, slatted wood, and floating planes of fabric which provide acoustic absorption.
Working in close collaboration with the inhabitants, who are intimately knowledgeable, and fascinated with construction, this home draws inspiration from the likes of Jean Prouve, Pierre Chareau, and one of the couple’s father, who was an expert machinist.
