อักษร STO ที่ห้อยท้ายชื่อของ Lamborghini Huracán STO นั้นเป็นตัวย่อของ “Super Trofeo Omologata” หรือแปลแบบตรงตัวได้ว่า “รถแข่ง Super Trofeo ที่ได้รับการปรับแต่งให้วิ่งบนท้องถนนได้อย่างถูกต้อง” โดยซูเปอร์คาร์แบบขับเคลื่อนล้อหลังที่มาพร้อมระบบเลี้ยวล้อหลังคันนี้เป็นผลิตภัณฑ์สำหรับถนนจริงที่พัฒนามาจากองค์ความรู้แห่งสนามแข่งอันได้แก่รถแข่งรุ่น Huracán Super Trofeo EVO และรถแข่งรุ่น GT3 EVO (เจ้าของรางวัล 12 Hours of Sebring สองสมัย และเจ้าของรางวัล 24 Hours of Daytona สามสมัย)
Squadra Corse ซึ่งเป็นแผนกมอเตอร์สปอร์ตของ Automobili Lamborghini ตั้งใจให้ Huracán STO คันนี้ขับเคลื่อนอย่างดุดันดั่งรถแข่งที่ออกมาวิ่งบนถนนปกติได้ เครื่องยนต์ที่ใช้เป็นเครื่องวี 10 ให้กำลัง 640 แรงม้า กับแรงบิดสูงสุด 564 นิวตัน-เมตรที่ 6,500 รอบ ขุมกำลังนี้ได้รับการปรับแต่งมาเพื่อความเร้าใจโดยเฉพาะ สามารถพาให้รถเร่งจากหยุดนิ่งไปถึง 100 กม./ชม. ได้ในเวลาเพียงแค่ 3 วินาที หรือจาก 0-200 กม./ชม. ในเวลาเพียง 9 วินาที ความเร็วสูงสุดอยู่ที่ 310 กม./ชม. ส่วนเรื่องประสิทธิภาพในการหยุดรถนั้น STO ได้นำเทคโนโลยีเบรกจากรถ Formula 1 มาใช้จึงทำให้ตัวรถสามารถหยุดสนิทจากความเร็ว 100 กม./ชม. ในระยะทางเพียง 30 เมตร และจากความเร็ว 200 กม./ชม. จนหยุดสนิท ใช้ระยะทาง 110 เมตร
รถรุ่นนี้มีโหมดการขับเคลื่อนในระบบ ANIMA สามโหมดด้วยกัน เวลาขับขี่ตามปกติให้ใช้โหมด STO ครั้นเมื่อต้องการพละกำลังสูงสุดเพื่ออัดความแรงในสนามแข่งก็ใช้โหมด Trofeo และหากฝนตกถนนลื่นก็เปลี่ยนเข้าโหมด Pioggia เพื่อที่รถจะได้สั่งการให้ระบบกันการลื่นไถลและระบบเบรคทำงานกันอย่างสัมพันธ์ที่สุดจะได้ไม่สูญเสียประสิทธิภาพในการเกาะถนน
และที่จะไม่พูดถึงไม่ได้เลยก็คือการออกแบบตัวถังให้มีคุณสมบัติทางด้านอากาศพลศาสตร์เป็นเลิศ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการออกแบบกระโปรงหน้าและกันชนให้เป็นชิ้นเดียวกันและมีท่อดักอากาศเพื่อเพิ่มแรงกดและช่วยลดความร้อนของเครื่องยนต์อีกทางหนึ่ง ถัดมาทางด้านท้ายรถจะพบกับครีบปลาฉลามบนกระโปรงหลังที่มีประโยชน์อย่างยิ่งเวลาเข้าโค้งแรงๆ เพราะสามารถช่วยเพิ่มความเสถียรของรถในแกนหมุนได้

The STO suffix of Lamborghini Huracán STO stands for “Super Trofeo Omologata”, which can be directly translated as “street-homologated Super Trofeo race car”. This road-legal product is developed on the basis of technical solutions and intelligence gained from two racecars: the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO and the GT3 EVO (three-time winner of 24 Hours of Daytona and two-time winner of 12 Hours of Sebring).
Squadra Corse, the motorsport department of Automobili Lamborghini, intended for this super sports car to deliver the most authentic track experience, but on the road. At the heart of the rear-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering Huracán STO is a naturally aspirated V10 engine, producing 640 horsepower and 564 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Calibrated for a very sporty and responsive racing feel, the power plant can bring the car from standstill to 100 kph in just three seconds, or to 200 kph in only nine seconds. The top speed is 310 kph. This is, of course, coupled with first-class braking performance from Formula 1 technology that brings the STO from 100 to 0 kph in 30 metres and from 200 to 0 kph in 110 metres.
Three new ANIMA driving modes are introduced. Apart from the default STO mode for regular road driving, the Trofeo mode features optimised systems for maximum performance on a track, and the Pioggia mode where the traction control and braking system are calibrated to minimise loss of grip in wet situations.
Last but not least, Huracán STO is able to do what it does with superior aerodynamics. The cofango, incorporating the hood (cofano) and the fender (parafango), is designed as a single component with air ducts on the front to increase airflow, generating downforce while also improving engine cooling. Meanwhile, the shark fin on the rear bonnet serves to improve yaw stability when cornering.
