Hyperion บริษัทสัญชาติอเมริกันด้านเทคโนโลยีและพลังงานไฮโดรเจนได้เปิดตัวไฮเปอร์คาร์รุ่นแรกของบริษัทอย่าง Hyperion XP-1 ซึ่งเป็นผลมาจากการพัฒนาและวิจัยของทีมนักวิทยาศาสตร์เป็นเวลาเกือบสิบปี จุดเด่นของรถพลังงานโฮโดรเจนนี้ คือ เมื่อไฮโดรเจนไปรวมกับออกซิเจนในฟิวเซลเพื่อสร้างพลังงานไฟฟ้า รถก็จะปล่อยเพียงไอน้ำจากท่อไอเสีย XP-1 จึงเป็นรถปลอดมลพิษที่สอดรับกับกระแสโลกยานยนต์ยุคใหม่อย่างแท้จริง โดย XP-1 จะใช้เวลาเติมไฮโดรเจนเหลวเต็มหนึ่งถังในเวลาเพียง 3-5 นาทีก็สามารถขับขี่ได้ไกลถึง 1,600 กิโลเมตร
สมรรถภาพของรถรุ่นดังกล่าวจัดว่าร้ายกาจทีเดียว เพราะสามารถเร่งจาก 0-96 กิโลเมตรต่อชั่วโมงได้ในเวลาไม่ถึง 2.2 วินาที และทำความเร็วได้สูงสุดถึง 352 กิโลเมตรต่อชั่วโมง เพราะระบบขับเคลื่อนของล้อทั้งสี่เป็นเครื่องยนต์ไฟฟ้าที่มีน้ำหนักเบา อีกทั้งโครงสร้างตัวถังรถนั้นเป็นคอมโพสิทเสริมไทเทเนียม ทำให้มีน้ำหนักเพียงหนึ่งตันเท่านั้น ครั้นเมื่อเปิดประตูแบบวีวิงเข้ามานั่งภายในก็ยังสัมผัสถึงความล้ำยุคได้อย่างต่อเนื่องด้วย หลังคากระจกขนาด 134 นิ้ว และจอดิจิตอลทรงโค้งขนาดยักษ์ 98 นิ้วที่ควบคุมด้วยระบบท่าทาง
Hyperion เผยโฉมและสเปคของไฮเปอร์คาร์แห่งยุคอวกาศคันนี้โดยไม่มีการประกาศราคาออกมา บอกเพียงแค่ว่าจะเริ่มต้นการผลิตในปี ค.ศ. 2022 และจำกัดจำนวนเพียง 300 คันเพื่อขายในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาเท่านั้น เพราะรถประเภทนี้จะต้องพึ่งพาสถานีเชื้อเพลิงไฮโดรเจนที่ทางบริษัทจะต้องเป็นผู้พัฒนาเพื่อความสะดวกของลูกค้าด้วย

Hydrogen technology firm Hyperion recently became the talk of the automobile world when they introduced their first hypercar: the XP-1. The hydrogen-powered vehicle is a product of nearly 10 years of research and development. Theoretically, this is a non-pollutant vehicle as its exhaust discharges only vapor from the process where hydrogen mixes with oxygen in the fuel cell to generate electricity. Practically, the XP-1 takes only three to five minutes to refill a full tank of liquid hydrogen for a driving range of 1,600 kilometres.
Do expect the XP-1 to be fierce as it can go from zero to 96 kilometres per hour in just under 2.2 seconds. Its top speed is 352 kilometres per hour, thanks to the use of lightweight electric motors to power all four wheels and the titanium composite chassis which weighs only one ton. V-wing doors opens up to give you access into an equally futuristic cabin with 98-inch, gesture controlled screen underneath the 134-inch glass canopy.
Hyperion unveiled this XP-1 hypercar and its specifications without announcing the price. What is known so far is that production will start in 2022 and it will be limited to only 300 units for the US market. This is because, being hydrogen-powered, the XP-1 will need to depend on a very specific fuel stations which Hyperion will need to develop for the benefit of their customers.
