BMW i8 จากจุดเริ่มต้นแห่งซูเปอร์สปอร์ตสุดล้ำ สู่การจดจำในฐานะตำนาน

หลังจากที่ออกมาประกาศว่าจะยุติการผลิตรถรุ่น i8 ในช่วงกลางเดือนเมษายน ขณะนี้ BMW i ได้เผยภาพรถ i8 คันสุดท้ายที่ออกจากสายการผลิต ณ โรงงานในเมืองไลป์ซิก ประเทศเยอรมนีแล้วในเดือนมิถุนายนนี้เอง
BMW i คือ แบรนด์ลูกของค่าย BMW เพื่อต่อยอดในการพัฒนายนตรกรรมยุคใหม่ซึ่งเน้นพลังงานที่สะอาดและเป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม โดยในช่วงปี 2014 ค่าย BMW i ได้ปล่อยรถระดับโปรดักชั่นออกมาภายใต้ชื่อ BMW i8 เป็นซูเปอร์สปอร์ตขุมพลังปลั๊กอินไฮบริดผู้มาพร้อมภาพลักษณ์สุดล้ำ ผสานการทำงานระหว่างเครื่องยนต์และมอเตอร์ไฟฟ้า ซึ่งถือว่าเป็นเรื่องใหม่มากๆ ในยุคนั้น โดย i8 ถือว่า เป็นรถที่ถูกจับตามองอย่างมาก เนื่องจากมาพร้อมดีไซน์ที่โดดเด่น เน้นเรื่องแอโรไดนามิคส์ เพื่อจัดเต็มประสิทธิภาพแห่งการขับเคลื่อน และมีประตูแบบปีกนกที่ดูโดดเด่นทุกครั้งที่สวิงขึ้น
นอกจากการจัดระเบียบการไหลเวียนของกระแสลมอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพแล้ว BMW i8 ยังมีน้ำหนักตัวถังที่เบาแต่มีความแข็งแกร่งสูง ด้วยการใช้วัสดุชนิดพิเศษที่มีชื่อว่าคาร์บอนไฟเบอร์รีอินฟอร์ซพลาสติก (CFRP: Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic) ซึ่งส่วนใหญ่ใช้ในอากาศยาน เพื่อชดเชยกับน้ำหนักของแบตเตอรี่ที่เพิ่มเข้ามา แม้ว่าจะมีต้นทุนที่สูง แต่นี่คือความตั้งใจอย่างหนักแน่นที่แบรนด์ BMW i วางไว้ตั้งแต่เริ่มก่อตั้ง
ในด้านขุมพลังนั้น ทางค่ายเน้นเรื่องความเป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม ด้วยการผสานกำลังระหว่างเครื่องยนต์เบนซินในพิกัด 1.5 ลิตร พ่วงเทอร์โบชาร์จ รหัส B38A15T0 ที่ให้แรงม้าในระดับ 231 ตัว (ขับเคลื่อนที่ล้อหลัง) จับคู่กับมอเตอร์ไฟฟ้าแบบไฮบริดซิงโครนัสขนาด 131 แรงม้าเพื่อช่วยในการขับเคลื่อนที่ล้อหน้า ซึ่งเมื่อผสานกำลังกันแล้ว สามารถปลดปล่อยพละกำลังในการขับเคลื่อนได้ถึง 362 แรงม้า (รุ่นปี 2018 เป็นต้นมา เพิ่มกำลังการขับเคลื่อนของมอเตอร์ไฟฟ้าขึ้นเป็น 143 แรงม้า ส่งผลให้พละกำลังรวมเพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 374 แรงม้า) ซึ่งนอกจากจะให้สมรรถนะที่โดดเด่นแล้ว ยังให้ความประหยัดที่เหนือชั้น โดยหากเต็มน้ำมันเต็มถัง ชาร์จไฟเต็มระบบ BMW i8 จะสามารถวิ่งในโหมด Eco Pro ได้ไกลถึง 600 กิโลเมตรเลยทีเดียว
สำหรับใครที่ต้องการเก็บตำนาน i8 ไว้เป็นหนึ่งในคอลเลคชั่น เมื่อปลายปีที่แล้วทางค่ายได้ปล่อย BMW i8 Ultimate Sophisto Edition ออกมาเพียง 200 คันในโลกให้สาวกบีมเมอร์พันธุ์แท้ได้เก็บไว้ดูต่างหน้า ส่วนตัวค่าย BMW i ก็ไม่หายไปไหน แต่จะเดินหน้าพัฒนานวัตกรรมต่างเพื่อส่งต่อสู่ยนตรกรรมรุ่นใหม่ๆ อย่างเช่น BMW i4 ที่เพิ่งจะเผยโฉมเมื่อไม่นานนี้ต่อไป

BMW i8 has run its final stretch of production after over 20,000 units sold since 2014.

Following the announcement that the i8 would be discontinued in mid-April, BMW i has released a photograph of the very last i8 to have come off the production line in Leipzig, Germany earlier this month.
BMW i is a sub-brand of BMW whose goal is to develop a new breed of automobile that runs on clean and environment-friendly energy. In 2014, the company released a production car called BMW i8. The supersport vehicle with sleek, futuristic persona was built with a plug-in hybrid powertrain of a fuel engine in combination with an electric motor – a novelty at that time. It was, perhaps, best known for the gullwing doors which commanded all eyes every time they swing open.
Apart from superior aerodynamics, the BMW i8 benefited also from the use of a light but highly resistant body made of CFRP or carbon fibre reinforced plastic, commonly found in aircrafts, to compensate for the extra weight of the battery. The material added to the cost, but it was consistent with the original ethos of BMW i.
The 1.5-litre gasoline engine with turbocharge is codenamed B38A15T0. It delivers 231 horsepower to rear wheels. The hybrid synchronous electric motor gives an additional 131 horsepower to the front wheels. Together, they can bring the BMW i8 forward with a total of 362 horsepower (or 374 horsepower in units built from 2018 onwards as their electric motor was improved to 143-horsepower). Therefore, in addition to performance, BMW i8 is able to offer excellent consumption as well. On a full tank of gas and a full charge of battery, the BMW i8 can travel for as far as 600 kilometres in the Eco Pro mode.
Bimmer fans who wish to own an i8 as a keepsake may look at the BMW i8 Ultimate Sophisto Edition which was introduced late last year and limited to only 200 units. Meanwhile, BMW i as an entity will continue to work on the next advancements for future automobile such as the BMW i4 which was recently unveiled.
