Bangkok International Motor Show

The major fair is practising socially distancing and contact tracing as best they can.

Words: LuxuoTH

Twice rescheduled, Bangkok International Motor Show is probably the first fair of its kind in the world to actually take place this year. This is made possible by the manageable Covid-19 situation in Thailand, relaxed government lockdown and the organiser’s strict hygiene and visitors control. Beside two temperature checks at the entrance of the building and the event hall, contact tracing is diligently enforced by way of Thai Chana check-in/check-out scan at every single booth. If the number of people reaches the maximum number allowed for the space of a particular booth, those in the queue will be asked to stand at the designated spots in order to ensure optimal distance.

The video above shows the ambiance during a public opening day. While the images are not crisp and clean as on the press day, this is the only way to feel the pulse of the consumers, to observe and innocently eavesdrop on random conversations as you take photos and videos. At the end of the day, we reached the conclusion that more than half of the people we saw were not there just to stroll around. They had the intention to buy a car, and this is true for all price ranges. These Thai consumers remain financially empowered to spend. As well, they are as excited by a motor show as before despite the fact that they can visit the individual dealerships any day and also get the same or very similar deals.

The 41st Bangkok International Motor Show will run until 26 July at IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani. Opening hours are 12:00-22:00 on Monday through Friday and 11:00-22:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. The event features 27 car brands, 12 motorcycle brands and 44 accessory brands in a spacious venue of 170,960 square metres. For more information, please visit https://www.bangkok-motorshow.com.
