Aston Martin เดินสายผลิตรถ DB5 รุ่นพิเศษอีกครั้งในที่สุดหลังจากที่ออกมาประกาศเปิดตัวตั้งแต่สองปีก่อน

Aston Martin DB5 ได้เป็นยนตรกรรมระดับตำนานตั้งแต่ที่ถูกใช้ในภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Goldfinger เมื่อปี 1964 แต่ด้วยจำนวนการผลิตที่ต่ำเพียงไม่ถึง 900 คันในช่วงปี 1963-1965 ประกอบกับความนิยมชมชอบที่ผู้คนมีให้กับรถรุ่นนี้ทำให้การที่ใครสักคนหนึ่งจะได้ครอบครองนั้นเป็นเรื่องที่แทบจะเป็นไปไม่ได้เลย แต่แล้วเมื่อเดือนสิงหาคม 2018 Aston Martin ก็ออกมาประกาศว่าตนได้ร่วมกับ EON Productions บริษัทผู้ผลิตภาพยนตร์เจมส์ บอนด์ ในการพัฒนารถรุ่น DB5 Goldfinger Continuation จำนวน 25 คันซึ่งจะมีแก็ดเจทเหมือนในภาพยนตร์ด้วย
แก็ดเจทที่ว่านี้มีอยู่ทั้งภายนอกและภายในตัวรถ เริ่มจากภายนอกกันก่อนเพราะมีทั้งระบบพ่นควันบังตาท้ายรถ ระบบจำลองการฉีดน้ำมันให้พื้นลื่นท้ายรถ ชุดหมุนป้ายทะเบียนทั้งด้านหน้าและด้านหลัง (มีป้ายทะเบียนสามหมายเลข) ปืนกลจำลองคู่หน้าและเครื่องเจาะยางจำลอง เมื่อเข้ามาในรถแล้วก็ยังมีของให้เล่นต่อ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นหน้าจอเรดาร์จำลอง โทรศัพท์ในประตูข้างคนขับและรีโมทคอนโทรลสำหรับการควบคุมแก็ดเจทต่างๆ
รถรุ่นพิเศษทั้ง 25 คันนี้จะถูกผลิตด้วยคุณภาพสูงสุดด้วยแบบแผนดั้งเดิมจากยุคของเซอร์ เดวิด บราวน์ ผสมกับความก้าวหน้าทางด้านวิศวกรรมสมัยใหม่ รถ DB5 Goldfinger Continuation คันหนึ่งจะต้องใช้เวลาในการผลิตถึงราว 4,500 ชั่วโมงที่สำนักงานใหญ่ของแผนกบูรณะรถเก่าของ Aston Martin ที่เมืองนิวพอร์ทแพ็กเนล มณฑลบัคกิงแฮมเชอร์ ซึ่งก็เป็นโรงงานแห่งเดิมที่ทำหน้าที่ผลิตรถรุ่น DB5 ในอดีต คันสุดท้ายออกจากโรงงานไปก็เมื่อ 55 ปีก่อน

รถขับหลังทั้งหมด 25 คันนี้จะผลิตเป็นสีเดียวกันทั้งหมด คือ สีซิลเวอร์เบิร์ชเหมือนคันที่ใช้ในภาพยนตร์ ตัวถังภายนอกเป็นอลูมิเนียมสไตล์เหมือน DB5 รุ่นดั้งเดิม ภายในเป็นโครงสร้างแชสซีส์ที่ผลิตด้วยเหล็กคาร์บอนต่ำเหมือนรถ DB5 รุ่นดั้งเดิม เครื่องยนต์ขนาด 4.0 ลิตร 6 สูบเรียงแบบหายใจเองและมีคาบูเรเตอร์ SU สามตัว ควบคุมการปลดปล่อยพลังของม้าทั้ง 290 ตัวด้วยเกียร์แมนวล ZF แบบ 5 สปีด
อนึ่ง ทาง Aston Martin แจ้งมาด้วยว่ารถ DB5 Goldfinger Continuation ราคา 2.75 ล้านปอนด์รุ่นนี้อาจจะไม่สามารถวิ่งบนถนนของบางประเทศได้เพราะว่าแก็ดเจทต่างๆ ที่ใส่เข้ามาเป็นพิเศษนี้เอง แต่ก็เป็นรถที่มีความพิเศษสำหรับแฟนภาพยนตร์เจมส์ บอนด์ที่จะมีไว้ในครอบครองซึ่งอีกไม่นานผู้โชคดีทั้ง 25 คนก็จะได้รับรถเพราะขณะนี้สายการผลิตได้เริ่มต้นขึ้นแล้ว

The Aston Martin DB5 was made eternally desirable by the 1964 film Goldfinger. But as fewer than 900 units were built between 1963 and 1965, owning such a sought-after classic is next to impossible. That was until August 2018 when Aston Martin announced they were working in collaboration with EON Productions, the maker of the James Bond films, to create 25 DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars which would include working gadgets as seen on the screen.
The gadgets can be found both on the exterior and the interior of the air. On the outside, some of the gadgets are the rear smoke screen delivery system, the rear simulated oil slick delivery system, the revolving number plates front and rear (triple plates), the simulated twin front machine guns and the simulated tyre slasher. On the inside, you will find it irresistible to toy with the simulated radar screen tracker map, the telephone in driver’s door and the remote control for gadget activation.
Each of the 25 new cars is being built to the highest possible quality, using a blend of Sir David Brown-era old world craftsmanship with the sympathetic application of modern engineering advancements. The meticulous DB5 Goldfinger Continuation construction process – which takes around 4,500 hours per car – is being undertaken at Aston Martin’s Heritage Division headquarters in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, which happened to be the place of birth of the original DB5 cars back in the days.
It has been 55 years since a DB5 was produced. Heritage Programme Manager Clive Wilson is one of those most closely involved in the process of bringing the new DB5 Goldfinger Continuation car into production. He said, “Seeing the first customer car move painstakingly through the intricate production process we have created really is quite a thrill. Obviously we have not, as a business, made a new DB5 for more than 50 years, so to be involved in the building of these cars, which will go on to form part of Aston Martin’s history, is something I’m sure all of us will be telling our grandkids about!”
All continuation cars are being built to one exterior colour specification – Silver Birch – the same as the original. The rear-wheel drive car features original DB5 styled aluminium exterior body panels wrapped elegantly around an authentic DB5 mild steel chassis structure. Sitting under the bonnet is a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated inline six-cylinder engine with three SU carburettors. The 290-horsepower engine is mated to a five-speed ZF manual transmission.
It is important to note that the Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Continuation may not be road legal in some countries of the world due to the equipped gadgets. But it seems like a very cool car to own though, especially if one is a hardcore James Bond collector. Production began this May and deliveries are expected to start soon. Priced at GBP 2.75 million each before taxes, the 25 cars are naturally all sold out.
